Okay so my green card expired I have my extension letter me and my husband have to move due to circumstances and the leasing office said I NEED state ID as my green card won't work and my passport is British these are the only 2 Id's I have what do I do can I even get state ID off an expired green card if i have the extension letter anyone had this issue need some urgent help soon we will be homeless if I can't get this sorted

You can get a drivers license/state ID with an expired card & valid extension letter.

It may be limited term (1 year) but it should be issued.

okay thanks did this off my phone panicking so much guys i dont know what to do i need it for the apartment app or were homeless thanks im going to go try get it Wednesday with my bank statements credit card ones ect

Hi first of all: Don't panic. 

 

A quick Google search found me this:

And in all reality you have your extension letter which makes your Green card valid for an extra year. This is an official federal document which has to be accepted by an apartment lease office.

its british and doesn't prove proof of residency so you cant use it for apartment or housing applications

Just wondering why you didn't have a state ID long ago with your first GC?

At any rate the list of documents required for the state of MD can be found at the official website. http://www.mva.maryland.gov/drivers/apply/federally-compliant-requirements-list.htm If your current card has expired and you have the validation letter, you could try with that and the other required documents. Cannot guarantee you won't get someone that hasn't got a clue at the MVA though... ask for a supervisor if so.

I assume they want ID proof, residency well you will be living there, presumably that is the intent.

Get a i-551 stamping on passport from USCIS info center near you.

Yeah, go the MVA route. Even if you meet a clueless customer service official initially you just persist until you get it. Then the apartment office will accept that. Whereas trying to convince a clueless apartment manager....nope.

I am a Leasing manager, so according to all federal and state laws that leasing office i violating the law.

Presenting your foreign passport along with your social security number is legal, and that MUST be ok for that leasing office.

tell them to stop breaking the law

they have to take your foreign passport as ID and SSN card
