Advice needed-Fiancé just lost job

14 posts in this topic

My fiancé in Angola just got some bad news that he lost his job today.

He sounded crushed so of course I'm crushed for him. We're only at NOA1 in the K1 visa. We're at CSC so hopefully we'll be done in another 4-5 months.

I'm wondering if #1-this could have any impact whatsoever on his K1 approval chances. And just #2, what's the best way I can support him through this? Not sure what the right things to say are.

I was actually thinking, once the shock wears off, to suggest that he come to the U.S. for 2-3 months while we wait for his embassy interview (he's also a Portuguese citizen).

Thanks for your support.

Why not get another job?

Of course that's an option but he's a professional so it would likely be weeks/months of interviewing for a job he'll only stay in for a hot second.

I don't know if that's their employment model in his country. I'm sure he'll explore that if it's an option.

It's not going to affect the visa. Why should it? The job would have been quit anyway when they moved to the states. Chances are he'll get denied at entry if he comes and stays in the states, he has to prove he has intentions to go back home. Hard to prove when he doesn't have a job. He can try to find another temp job until he leaves or you can do your best to support him until he comes, not many other options.

Thanks-I don't know what it would affect. You know this process just makes you paranoid.

Because Angolans need visas to come here he would just travel here on his Portuguese passport. But his reason for going back to Angola would be to complete his embassy interview. Think that's not enough?

I know I'm spinning. It's just that my love is across the universe and upset and likely panicking and I can't do anything to really help.

The only problem I foresee is that they may fear he will come, marry, and adjust while here... Others have more experience and can shed light into that.

Foreign beneficiary's employment status virtually has no effect on K1 visa processing.

What matters is your job and income level.

Also, people lose and find jobs all the time.

I got laid off twice and took the opportunity to find better jobs in both situations.

Besides, if you are going through CSC, your approval decision will occur likely

much quicker than TSC, so he's gonna have to quit that job anyway.

I told my fiancee to quit her (somewhat stressful) job while we were going

through the K1 visa processing, and just relax and prepare to come to US...which she did,

and had no effect on the K1 visa processing.

Just let him relax and prepare to come to US.

If his bored, then he can improve English and/or his job skills in the meantime.

Appreciate those thoughts. I know there's a silver lining in this especially since we're already in process so he's moving soon. Thank you for the support.

For a K-1, to US, it has no bearing, but as a man it would be devastating. Also, humiliating, as a man has its pride.

But, he has you to be strong for him..,.,.just "just be there for him"..,.,.and hope he gets here soon.

Kind of a heart breaking story, but it is a fresh start, and maybe,.,.,. you can get him to see it that way.

Good luck.,.,. he just needs a big hug from you.
