Hi everyone.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all of you who have posted their experiences and questions and those who replied to them. All of you have been a tremendous help to me.

Please forgive me if these questions have already been asked - I cannot seem to find an answer to a couple of questions:

1. I have to get my vaccination for chicken pox before my medical exam and my interview in Montreal. I am fine with the other vaccination requirements. My medical exam is next week and my interview in Montreal is on February 24. The chicken pox vaccination for adult requires 2 shots. I am getting the first shot this week but the next shot will not be done until after my medical exam and after my interview in Montreal (i.e. 6 weeks later - in March). Can they deny my visa if I have not fully satisfied the vaccination requirement even though I have gotten 1 of 2 shots?

2. My visa will be CR1. If I get approved for my visa, would I be able to go to the US to visit my husband (and not activate my visa)? I have to sort out a few things with my job and my house before I can move down but I want to be able to visit back and forth in the meantime.

Thank you to those who respond to my question. I am panicking right now since I do not know what to do.

Answers:

  1. Visa issuance can be delayed if medical exam requirements are not satisfactorily met.
  2. The short answer is no. The long answer is this: travel back and forth after POE will be possible and permissible. This is why, the visa itself endorsed by a standard CBP entry stamp allows the visa itself to act as a temporary green card until you receive the actual card. Specific to your case, you will be able to go back and forth to Canada to sort out the things with your job and house.

For the UK embassy, having the correct vaccinations is not a requirement for the K1 visa but is a requirement for AOS, which is why most people aim to have them done prior to their medical. So if vaccinations are the only thing amiss, they will send your results to the embassy regardless.

Now, I assume this is the same for all embassies but the guides/more seasoned members in your regional forum should be able to clarify this.

So (if it is the same as the London embassy) no, it won't hold you up, but it will cause additional expense at the AOS stage as you'll need a civil surgeon to sign off on your vaccinations again, which is typically more expense than having them ready for the medical.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Only just noticed this was moved from K1 to IR-1/CR-1, please disregard my advice, it is relevant to K1 petitions.
