My partner (American) and I (Canadian) have been in a long-distance relationship for 13 years. We met in San Francisco while I was a travelling there with some friends. We intended to get married in live in Vancouver until the cost of living in Vancouver skyrocketed. Since we're a bi-national same-sex couple, we could not get married and live in San Francisco back then. We waited until DOMA was struck down by the US Supreme Court and the US recognized same-sex relationships. We got married in San Francisco in Sept, 2013 and filed our I-130 in November 2013. Since my partner is originally from Idaho, we compromised on living in Seattle to be closer to our families and friends in Idaho and Vancouver.
