K1 visa from Iran under travel ban / Supreme court

Now that the supreme court has reinstated the travel ban I wonder what effect it will have on the K1 visa process for an Iranian beneficiary.

 

I hear that the ban does not apply to someone with a bonified relationship with an American citizen… I hope an engagement is considered a bonified relationship.

 

I know people are still sorting out the court ruling but any information you might have will be helpful.

 

Our documents made it to the Armenian embassy on June 22, 2017 so we are close to the end of the process

The modified ban is unlikely to affect family-based immigration due to the existence of a valid relationship.

I'm in the same boat, a few days behind you. I'm hoping an approved NOA2 is proof enough of bona fide relationship, at least to get us to the interview. I guess the consular interview is what ultimately establishes the bona fide status though.

And here it is. According to the latest updates, fiance(e) does not count as a bona fide relationship. Add in another 90 days. ☹️

k1/fiancée  are not considered close family/Bona Fide and will be banned.. all over the USA news sites this morning..

This news is so frustrating. I wonder when a person's 90 days start? Is it 90 days from when you submit the actual visa application (DS-160) or is it 90 days after the interview? My heart goes out to all of the K1 couples from the affected countries, especially those who are so close to completing the process.

The government contradicts themselves. Relationships must be deemed "bona fide" to issue a fiance Visa yet at the same time now they are not considered bona fide. So what type of relationship is a fiance? Bona fide or not bona fide? I guess it's bona fide whenever it's convenient for them.

 

Step 2: Point 4: "If the DOS consular officer does not find the relationship bona fide, the K-1 visa will be refused, and the K-1 petition will be returned to USCIS."

And further, I don't see how a travel ban on a Visa makes one damn difference in the first place. All of the bg checks and stuff happen "during the visa process", not during the act of traveling itself, so it just seems like a way to get the publicity that "something is being done" for all the bigots and chickens out there that are scared of their own shadows that must see Trump doing something, regardless of whether it's effective or not.

Trilobyte, I think someone in the administration paid attention to your reasoning. They just decided to (apparently) reverse course on fiancé visa applications, and now they seem to be exempt from the ban.

A bit of positive news among this mess. Considering there is a visa dedicated to the sole purpose of bringing a fiance to the US, I think they made the right choice in including them as 'bona fide' family members.
