This wait is frustrating....ROC

It sucks that USCIS is not consistent. It's so unfair to ppl who are still waiting from dec'15, jan'16, feb'16 and March'16. While April'16 and May'16 are being approved. I really would like to know HOW?????

The thing that irks even more...no updates on website... still stuck on "We received you form.... :for a ONE ENTIRE YEAR...

You can read the entire (ridiculous, depressing) story in @mindthegap's signature - USCIS has seriously effed up with this application. Usually they say something regarding "security checks" or some such. 

However, it's not a bad idea to try to track down your file by calling (or making an InfoPass appointment) and talking to an officer. They might be able to tell you where you are in line.

if you are waiting so long you need to inquire as to why judging from fellow trini ppl on here approximate wait time is 4 months

As always, it is case by case basis. Not ALL applicants from April and May 2016 will get approved in a timeline manner. In fact, there WILL be some applicants from April '16 and May '16 that will take longer than a year. Maybe even 2 years.

 

Every month there are new cases that will take longer than normal while others get approved.

 

It is what it is.

1) OP is in NYC, therefore filed at Vermont which is most definitely not four months.

2) I don't think even even California is processing I-751 in 4 months right now, if they ever were.

3) Country of origin perhaps means they lend a little more scrutiny for certain places due to more instances of fraud, but just because someone else from Trinidad & Tobago (lovely place btw) got through in 'normal' time doesn't mean anyone else will.

4) If you query pretty much anything, they tell you nothing. If you are lucky, you may get the standard 'due to pending security checks' letter, which I certainly know in my case was not true.  

In addition to this, most peoples case status online does not get updated after biometrics.

Well, you can call USCIS though you might be thinking, Well, yes, but the hotline isn't so hot, as they will just read you back the case status from pre biometrics. If you escalate to a Tier 2 offier or supervisor, IF they bother to call you back, they generally are unable to tell you anything either.

 

What about the infopass? Well, after jumping through the 1am hoops to get an appointment for two weeks time - naturally, during office hours, for maximum inconvenience - when you go to the appointment and deal with the barking TSA wannabe security personal, if you are lucky enough to get someone human and on the ball who actually knows their job, they may be able to delve into the system and tell you a little bit of information. However, the next time you speak to someone, they may tell you something completely different, or contradictory to what you were told before, and so it starts all over again.

Perhaps they do schedule an interview or an RFE. Great! Unless they didn't send your appointment notice or it gets lost in the mail. Not their problem they say - we sent it. Now your problem.

The whole ROC system is a *******g disgrace, and they simply don't care. 

 

Many of us are in limbo and have exhausted every possible avenue of inquiry and help, and short of doing some sort of 007-esque midnight mission to a USCIS office and digging out files aided by a flashlight, remain still in the dark.

Ha ha ha can imagine doing a midnight mission with a torch light!!   Too funny!!  I honestly believe that with any business especially when the customer is paying huge amounts,  there should be some accountability.  @mindthegap  as I said yesterday, I honestly don't know why you have been SO gracious. I would have had the Ombudsman involved a long time before!  I think at the least they should give you a refund with your fees!

Well I got them involved with AOS and what normally happens is that you will hear from USCIS first and it will be sorted out and then Ombudsman will email you after the fact. I think it was around 30 days with the Ombudsman if memory serves me correctly. I dont even know why you need an interview to be honest. I dont think they could have messed up your case more if they had actually intentionally tried to do so!

I completely forgot that we ended up having to get Ombudsman involved with our AOS messes. They were definitely quick about getting their act together after contacting them so fingers crossed you hear something, 2 years is beyond a joke..

what is the big deal with having to wait for roc. you are a lpr before and a lpr after. you don't actually gain anything from it so there is no need to actually finish them. the people who are waiting for aos, citizenship, or even just to be able to come to this country have tons more to gain than someone who is waiting for roc to be finished. I am in the middle of the roc process so I am well aware of how long it takes. so please take a step back and realize you are already here and have your greencard and just deal with the waiting. uscis does not exist to just deal with only your issues and when they get strained for resources they will deprioritize petitions which such as roc that do not change a person's status so they can work on bringing family members to the us, granting them lpr status and even citizenship.

This is all fair and good until you walk in for an infopass appointment for the 2nd extension letter, after your app has been pending for 2.75 years, and then the kindly USCIS employee tells you that your green card has been canceled for non-response to an RFE sent 9 months earlier which never got to you.

 

It seems like a preposterous example but you can bet that's it happened before.

 

Here's another example of what a pain in the rump it can be. You make the infopass appointment and get your NOA letter extended 1 year. You travel on a regular basis, perhaps out of a US POE where the IO's aren't exactly the sharpest. And every time you re-enter the US they look at the doc's and can only come away with the conclusion that your real green card is expired. Delays, delays, delays until they can check with someone who understands something about extension letters.

 

Your point that other immigration processes can confer greater benefit, is well taken, but I wouldn't dismiss the hassles associated with the ROC process as nothing by comparison.
