Hi Everyone!

I need some advice for my K1 AOS please!

My husband and I are about to file for AOS and I am very confused with regards to the Medical Exam. I had my medical exam as part of the K1 Visa application process done in Algeria (where I was interning although I am a German citizen) in September 2016. Even though it generally says that no second medical exam is required if you apply within a year of the first exam I am confused with regards to the vaccination requirements.

It says on the I-693 Instructions that: " Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements."

I'm unsure how I'm supposed to prove this without another exam? I didn't receive any documents from the panel physician in Algeria. I only received a sealed envelope which I passed on to the US embassy. I have my little yellow vaccine booklet which shows my vaccines, does that suffice as prove?

Or do I need to have another medical exam done?

Thanks so much for any advice!

In the Philippines we were given an extra paper that says I-693 and it just shows the list of the vaccines you got. I just sent it with all my papers and got approved without interview. If you have that vaccine booklet or any extra paper given to you by the physician, I think that will suffice but if you wanna be sure. Just take another exam.

Good luck :)

Did they not give you the DS3025 at the medical? My husband didn't think they did his, but when we went back to check his paperwork they had indeed given it to him.

No they didn't give me a DS3025 at the medical. I just received a sealed envelope which I handed over to the US embassy. What so you mean "went back to check his paperwork"? Went where?

He has a folder that he keeps all of our paperwork in from the process. It ended up being in it. In this case you will need to follow the instructions on the I-693 https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/form/i-693instr.pdf Read part 3, question 3, (C,2). There is a chance that the form was given to USCIS already, and you won't receive an RFE for it. It's a risk you have to decide to take. There are people here who submitted AOS without the DS3025 and didn't receive an RFE, and ended up being fine. Did you need or lack any vaccinations or have you had all of them?

What if I don't have a DS-3025?

If you are positive that you got the needed shots, then actually mailing in a DS-3025 photocopy is not necessary. The original form is with your other medical results and was turned over to USCIS at POE. That's actually the one that counts because it remained in the "chain of custody" so you didn't have an opportunity to alter it. The photocopy isn't really an official copy and is more for a reminder that you got complete at your visa exam. Of course without having a copy, you don't have the opportunity to see if the rest of the form was completed correctly.

I also didn't receive a copy of the DS-3025 despite the fact that those pages actually say "GIVE COPY TO CUSTOMER" on them. However as the original was in my completed and sealed medical file, I simply attached a paper stating "Vaccination Supplement DS-3025 was surrendered at POE on Date of Entry with the completed form I-693 and is in the custody of the USCIS" or something to that regard, and we didn't receive a RFE for it.

You can try to attain the copy from the doctor's office, but they probably won't have one (mine didn't).

Or you can have your vaccinations transcribed by a civil surgeon here in the US (sometimes it's hard to convince them to do this because they want to charge you for the full medical).

Sadly my AOS is dragging on so long that my medical ended up expiring nonetheless and I had to have it done again.

When I got my visa and sealed envelope I also got another, smaller envelope that I didn't give to the immigration officer at the air port. I still don't know what was in it, but I sent it in with my AOS documents and I didn't have to take another medical.

In order to cut down on any confusion, just want to point out that you do not receive an I-693 from a panel physician abroad. They use DS(Dept. of State) forms. Civil surgeons in the US use the USCIS I-693 form.
