I am the USA petitioner and my wife is Colombian.

We have been married for 5 years and are working on an IR1.

We are at the current step where I submit my affidavit of support.

Unfortunately, I only made $17,000 last year. I understand why the US government wants me to make 20% more than poverty for a 2 person household. I just want to know if there is anything I can do. I haven't seen my wife in 2 years and I'm desperate. I'm currently getting a degree that will allow me to gain better employment, but that means I'm looking at 3 more years without seeing my wife.

Can you get a sponsor? That looks to be your only option unless you have a large amount of assets..

Are you counting gross income or net income?

Maybe you can get a part time job for a while

Do you have any savings or assets you could use to make up the difference?

I'm counting Gross income,

I'm a full time employee and a full time student. I did have a second part-time job but I had to drop it, there wasn't time. I will make less this year because I drop my second job.

Extremely limited savings, no assets.

I lived with my wife in Colombia for 3 years, I had a good job over the internet still working from the USA. I made 25k per year while I lived in Colombia. That job is no longer available and my Spanish is poor so I had to leave Colombia to gain employment.

I decided to go to school so that I can make enough money.

The dental and health insurance provided by my employment cover both my wife and myself. I wish there were a way to prove to immigration that we cost very little to live and are both productive.

You are wrong, it's 125%, not 25%, not 20%. You were provided a link to the I-864P as well as the current qualifying figure for a household size of 2 in the last post.

This is ruining my day.

I was sent all that information when they asked for my affidavit of support. I was hoping there was something we could do.

Seems my only options are:

• Make $19,912 a year
• Get out of the USA
• Get divorced
• Live married and alone

You are wrong, it's 125%, not 25%, not 20%. You were provided a link to the I-864P as well as the current qualifying figure for a household size of 2 in the last post.

25% above poverty means 100% + 25%. I'm sorry you were confused.

Also, thank you all for trying to help by sending me information my government already sent me. I was just hoping there were something else we could do. Some helpful group I was unaware of or some niche we fell into. I have already read all the pdfs provided by the government and understand them completely.

Also, you can close this thread as I certainly don't want to make people angry and there won't be anything new. We have no options besides waiting until I can make %125 poverty for a 2 person home. I hope that next year it isn't raised again.

I'm also sorry I came here with my questions, I just miss my wife and thought someone had advice I hadn't heard of yet.

Hi Anderaxale. I feel your anxiety and I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. Would/could you consider moving closer to an area where the pay/demand is greater for your type of work? I know that for many occupations being mobile makes a difference. Good luck to you.
