I stupidly sent my original police certificate to NVC, I didn't think I'd need it for medical. Could I take a photocopy of the original that's with NVC? Anyone have experience with this or have an email address for the Knightsbridge medical center.

I am not at interview stage yet but I want to be prepared.

Agree with Nich-Nick, I gave them a photocopy and didn't show the original. They kept it. I took an original with me just in case, but now it's mine for the keeping

for the medical the police certficate needs to have been issued within the 6 months before the medical, is this the same for the interview as well?

Hey all! This is my experience when I went for my medical at Bentinck Mansions, London!

First of all, be sure to look at what the building looks like prior to visiting. My Uber driver couldn't find it very well on the map, and I had to panic trying to find it as Google Maps was even going all over the place.

== My Experience ==

I turned up late, as I came from Cornwall and the trains were delayed. I highly recommend you call if you're going to even be five minutes late. It's good form.

Upon arriving you press a buzzer on the door, and it opens up automatically. I walked in, and had to rummage through my backpack for my forms. It took so long the lady came out, wondering where I was!

== Nurse (Medical) ==

I followed her in and she said "Okay, first I need all of your documentation", so I handed her my forms and photo. She said I was missing my case number, and that although they have it, they need me to confirm it. She said it's something I can email them after my appointment. Not a great way to start.

I was then told to fill out a form, and do so while sitting in their pretty small (but nice) waiting room. There was only one other person there and as soon as I sat down he was seen to.

Upon filling out my form (please be aware the columns are opposite to the form they initially ask you to bring!) I handed it back to the receptionist and was told to sit back and wait.

Literally five minutes later, the nurse came out and told me to follow her. She was incredibly friendly and immediately put me at ease.

The first thing she showed me was the check-list she has to abide by. She pointed out that she is required to do a genital check and if I was okay that she did it. I told her I didn't care and the main medical began.

First she checks your weight and height. Then she got me to stand on a mark on the floor (which I couldn't see) and read off a chart for an eye test. Next she sat me on the bed and I had my blood taken in addition to an ear, eye, blood pressure and mouth check. Finally she asks you to strip off (so I was just in my boxers) and she taps around and checks downstairs.

After all of that she goes through the forms with you, making sure you answered correctly. I forgot that I had my tonsils removed at a young age, so she added that for me.

All in all, she was the friendliest part of my experience and she is exactly what you need on such a nerve racking day.

== Chest Xray ==

Once I was done with the nurse, she told me to follow her as it was pretty likely the x-ray was ready for me, which it was.

I walked in and was told to take my shirt off and my necklace. He told me to place my chest against this black slab and made me bend my arms behind my back and hold onto something with my thumbs.

The first x-ray didn't turn out right so we did it twice. I'll tell you one thing, seeing your chest xray appear on the computer is one of the strangest experiences ever! You'll notice it's not symmetrical but don't worry, it shows your heart and even food you've ate!

== Nurse (Vaccinations) ==

I was straight away seen by the next nurse who informed me I was missing a few jabs. Three in total. She told me that they could do it right then and there, but that it would cost me 104 quid. No thanks! This journey alone cost me that. She said it's totally fine and that I can get it done at my local GP.

She didn't seem to friendly, I tried making a few light remarks but she was too busy writing. I took no offence, it was just a contrast to the other friendly staff I'd encountered.

== Done! ==

Overall it took me about 30 minutes. Maybe less. It was really quiet and after reading so many experiences on here I was expecting to wait considerably longer. The biggest thing I can say is don't worry so much. It's over in a flash and leaving there being told that parts of my medical indicated I was completely 'normal' was great.

The police certificate is valid for 12 months at both the embassy and the medical. Knightsbridge don't have their own immigration rules, they literally just carry out the exam on behalf of the embassy. I asked Knightsbridge myself before I went to my appointment:

Since vaccines are required for fiance visa only for AOS why does Knightbridge seem to force people to get their vaccines at the appt? My fiancee has his appt on Monday but may need an MMR booster....will they put pressure on him to pay for it there?

I don't think they do. They tell people they can go to their GP later.

In my experienced-with-AOS opinion, it is a HUGE mistake to not get all needed shots recorded and done at Knightsbridge.

Best advice: Don't be in such a rush to attend the medical that you don't allow time to get to the GP for free shots first.

Second best advice: Pay for the shots at the medical so you don't have to deal with a civil surgeon in the US.

He went to GP already but they said he didnt need MMR but I told him unless he has a vaccine record showing the MMR in childhood he should get a booster....he had DTP and flu at GP.....dont want him to pay that silly amount at knightbridge when he will have time at GP before interview to get it done but didnt want him to feel pressured at Knightbridge
