This question was just asked yesterday I believe. It's perfectly fine to do and when you attend the citizenship interview, you advise them of your recent trip (obviously it wasn't on your app when you first sent it!)

Obviously be smart about when you're expecting biometrics and the interview letter to ensure you're around for those ;)

I'm going away for a week my self at the beginning of April.

You can travel internationally before, during, and after the N-400 process. The travel is the same, you'll be a lawful permanent resident until the day you surrender your Green Card, which is the day you become a US citizen.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I thought about the same thing. Thanks for the input.

Now the next thing I would like to know is, what if i am outside the USA and the bio letter comes in and gives me a date when I am still on vacation overseas? There is nobody we trust around here to open our mail so we'll have to wait until we come back. Now what if that letter says my biometrics were a couple days before we got back?!

And another thing. Can I go to any other office that does fingerprinting on walk in basis as soon as I get my bio appt letter?

Hi,

You may be able to have ur bio. done by wake-in, but there's 2 things. 1- to have ur Biometrics letter with you. 2- to know if ur USCIS office accept's walk-in, but still you can go there and try. you can explain to them your situation, they might take u.

We tend to patronize the USCIS when sending in an application by not planning any trips. Do do so, may result in having your application denied that they can do if they don't hear from you within the confines there time limits. No big deal, you just lose 680 bucks and can apply again. If not denied, can expect long delays, so why even bother applying if you are planning on taking off? But yes, you can travel, but only up to six months or will have green card and N-400 application problems.

Wife and I discussed this matter, she just got a fresh green card and renewed her foreign passport, should we lock ourselves in prison until it over? We did, but just when we were expecting her interview, her niece calls and wants us to attend her wedding, just said sorry, can't make it that is time. But when it was over, traveled, took her and her new husband out to dinner and got them a nice wedding present. So all is well that ends well. If you have an emergency, would write to the USCIS and explain it. But just to take a causal trip, in my opinion, is not worth it. Take your trip and apply when you get back.

when you say during, can you apply while abroad? I know there si a quesiton that asks about return date to US which could be difficult to answer while abroad, but I wonder if anyone has ever applied while travelling?
