HI,

There is one question that is bothering me from the last few days. I filed a regular I-130 for my wife with her maiden name. Now after USCIS approval, the case have reached to NVC. I asked my wife to make the passport with spouse name, which she have had. Now the question is how would I show that last name change to NVC. Please help me.

Hi amsahi,

This is directly from NVC:

The NVC is unable to change an applicant's name without a copy of the applicant's valid passport containing the applicant's current name.

If you wish the name to be changed, please submit a copy of the biographical page of the applicant's passport to the address below.

National Visa Center

ATTN: WC

31 Rochester Avenue, Suite 200

Portsmouth, NH 03801-2915

So Amsahi, send the NVC a photocopy of the biographical page of your wifes new passport in her married name and a short letter just saying what you want, that is, the name changed. Don't forget to include the following information in your letter to them, which basically helps them verify you and link the letter to your NVC number.

NVC Case No:

CIS Case No:

Petitioner's Name:

Petitioner's Date of Birth:

Beneficiary's Name:

Beneficiary's Date of Birth:

Great! Thanks for this suggestion. I will do the same thing. In addition, I also called NVC and they came up with the same answer. Take care.

I have experience with this last week. I talked to the operator, and she told me to just EMAIL a copy of my wife's new passport with her new name to the NVC. Two days later, I got an email back confirming the change.

Follow the same rules with the case numbers, names, and birthdates, and you're good to go.

Oh by the way, use NVCInquiry@state.gov

most people have to have their name change from maiden to married

mine was the opposite from married back to maiden , since it was difficult for my wife to update her name on her Indian passport in Canada

all we did was to email NVC with the following

applicant's name change from ........ to .........

NVC Case No:

Petitioner's Name:

Petitioner's Date of Birth:

Beneficiary's Name:

Beneficiary's Date of Birth:

make sure to have your case on the subject line

also pdf attachement of my wife's passport bio and her US visitor's visa

also i never got a reply back from NVC that the name has been changed , as i continued to pay my fees and completed DS-260 , i saw her name change on the website .

Changing the name is simple. I emailed the info to the NVC inquiry email address per someone's comment above but I forgot to attach the documentation. They replied in 2 days that the change couldn't be processed without the documents and to resend to the ask NVC email. Sent the info to asknvc@state.gov and got a reply the same day.
