What a knucklehead. Murders a guy - at the range - and then claims to be part of an "organization" to overthrow the government.

They're going to have a hard time uncovering this coup plot though with all that "evidence" against him. Over a dozen weapons and Vasili Zaetsev's notes. Whooooo. I feel sorry for this guys friends though because it seems like he likes to talk. I bet we'll hear more on this case in the coming weeks.

Stupid guy. If he read the VJ off topic forum threads on guns, he would know that guns have no purpose in overthrowing a government. The government could just nuke his house.

To the contrary, geniuses like yourself said allowing fools like this to amass weapons is what the Constitution wants. Lets just hope you;re not in the area when someone like that fire away. Oh I forget, like every gun-toting John Wayne on here, you're going to take him down first.

Strange how I have never heard of such idiocy in Australia.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

So was he more dangerous because he had 12 weapons?

If he was restricted to only one - maybe even only a single-shot hunting rifle - would this not have happened?

I think you answered your own question.

Not exactly easy [or possible] to stage a coup using a knife or a toaster now is it Slim; which you have sworn can kill too.

It's also funny how you guys make it out as if the government will go out of control, when in reality coups occur from loony private citizens or groups with guns. Point in case - the OP. Must have missed that part during all your history quoting in the other thread.

I think you missed my point. This wasn't a "coup attmept" this was a murder. The so-called "coup" was only identified (and it looks like it was self-identified) after the murder and subsequent arrest interview.

The govt. didn't thwart anything.

My point was the man at the gun range was murdered - not because this guy had 12+ guns, notes on a Russian sniper, and alleged ties to "an organization" - but because he had one gun. ONE. The dozen or so at his house didn't make him more dangerous.

The story didn't say what type of gun he used to kill the other man, but it did point out one thing, and that is, he could've done this murder with a single-shot rifle or a shotgun used for duck hunting. The "common sense" legislation (banning everything but "sporting guns") some of you have been talking about on here lately wouldn't have prevented this murder.

Additionally, the "cache" of weapons at his house didn't make him any more dangerous.

It's also funny how you guys make it out as if the government will go out of control, when in reality coups occur from loony private citizens or groups with guns. Point in case - the OP. Must have missed that part during all your history quoting in the other thread.

Did the OP really carry out a coup? Yeah, I did miss that part.

Obviously you've missed all the coups in history but I'd expect that coming from a guy so focused on Australia being better than the rest of the world that he didn't even know the US and Somalia went a couple rounds back in the early '90s.

What I think is really funny is these "weapons caches" they find. The typical "cache" when reported in the news is as follows...

"The alleged coup-plotter had a large cache of weapons ammassed in his home ready for passing out to would-be coup members intent on violently overthrowing the government. Among the weapons found by officers were numerous high-powered assault rifles, sniper weapons, and guns used by criminals and terrorists. The weapons included -

AK-47 - a favorite assualt rifle of terrorists and criminals the world over

Bushmaster AR-15 - a high-powered assault rifle based on the M-16 the military uses

Chinese SKS - a high-powered assault rifle that can easily be converted to fire in fully automatic mode like a machine gun

Hi-Point 45 - a cheap pistol capable of shooting .45cal bullets through car doors

Marlin 60 - a semiautomatic rifle that can be equipped to shoot a subsonic round making it hard for officers to locate

Mosin-Nagant - the sniper rifle used by Vasili Zaetsev (who the alleged coup-plotter had notes on)

Mossberg 590 - a pump shotgun with a pistol grip and short barrel that is easily concealed under a coat or jacket

Remington 700 - a high-powered rifle with sniper scope and bipod attached

Remington 870 - a pump shotgun that can be equipped with numerous aftermarket devices to make it more lethal

Remington 1187 - a semiautomatic shotgun used by police forces and SWAT teams

Smith & Wesson 686 - a handgun that shoots magnum loads capable of penetrating body armor and helmets

Winchester 94 - a high-powered rifle that can quickly shoot seven rounds

What they fail to report is none of these weapons really go together from a tactical standpoint and every single one of the guns on that list is a popular model of privately owned weapons used for sporting purposes or home defense. But, taken as a whole... I guess it's a "cache" of weapons. Anyone with any sense at all would be able to look at that list and say, "Coup?... What coup?"

Man, I hope they never raid my house!

Rounds equal war does it. You guys pull it out of your azz as you go along.

If you're going to make an argument based on history (which is funny because you like to swing from "back in 1934 the US did this and the rest of the first world was already doing that" to "we're not talking about the past, we're talking about the present") at least get your ducks in a row before doing so.

History is really, really easy to google.

Edited to remove DP yet again.
