Hi guys!

I finally received my ASC Appointment Notice today in the Mail.

I am scheduled to have my Biometrics taken on July 19th.

Here is a quick question that I have and you guys hopefully are able to answer.

It asks for a Photo Identification. I do have a German Passport but here is my problem. It expired about 6 days ago and by the time I have my biometrics taken it will be 3 weeks that it has expired. Will that cause any problems? I don't have any other "State Issued" Picture Identification. The only thing I have is School ID's from my past years in High School here in the U.S.

Will that German Passport work just fine, even though it is expired?

Answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Div. of Motor Vehicles in most states will give you a photo ID...though not a drivers' license

Sorry, i can't really help you.

It's true that you can have a photo ID card at the DMV, but i just read on VJ that somebody presents his photo ID card for the interview and they ask him for his passport- but it can be a good thing to have it, who can know?

I don't know really the rules in USA or for USCIS, but you have to determine if an expired passport can be used like a proof of identity ( It's the meaning of your question).

I know that for some countries, it's possible- but i have no idea for here.

Good luck

Sorry, i just read my appointment letter, it is written, passport, driver's licence, national ID, military ID, or state-issued photo ID.

To have information about what they ask, the better things is to go on the web-site of the DMV of your state.

For NYS, they ask you to have 6 points for having the ID-card ( they attribute some points to some documents like I-94, visa....).

Good luck

This is very true. I know here where we are Kris can't even try to get a State ID till he has his EAD at the earliest. It's a complete pain in the butt.

Since you'll need it anyway, your safe and wise bet is to get to a German Consulate in the USA and get yourself a new passport. No brainer.

Well thats easier said than done. I went to the German Consulate website a few weeks ago, here is the information that I have gathered.

1. It will take 4-6 Weeks for the passport to come back. (My appointment is in 2 weeks)

2. They require a valid "Green Card" copied to them in order to renew my passport.

I don't think it's possible for me to even renew my german passport here in the USA until I get my green card.

You think it will cause a lot of problem to show up with an expired passport or are they going to be ok with it?

I don't know what else I can do at this point.

Actually, take your expired passport and if you can get a print out from the German Consulate/Embassy about what is required to renew your passport, bring that with you to explain that you are not allowed to renew your passport until you have a green card, then provide them with the written evidence if it is questioned. I suspect you should be fine.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

That would appear to be the best you can do. Hopefully it will work. I bet you're wishing you thought about this much earlier.
