It was a little scary because you were isolated while they prepared to process. The staff were nice, but did nothing to put you at ease. The process took about 30 minutes and was not complicated. |

Fast processing in the border control. Not a lot of questions asked by the IO for my yellow packet. |

We waited 2 months after receiving the visa (a few weeks past our 2 year marriage anniversary) so that the CR-1 would be an IR-1 and we would avoid removing conditions later (we had already waited in this process for almost 2 years due to the Covid pandemic). At POE, we provided CBP with our marriage certificate showing our marriage date and they advised the visa would automatically be changed to IR-1. They crossed out CR-1 on the visa and wrote IR-1 next to it. They also wrote IR-1 on the passport stamp. CBP advised the SSN would be sent in a few weeks and the Green Card in a few months.
SSN never arrived. We had to call and make an appointment at a local Social Security office to get them to start the process. Nothing was in their system for our case. Green Card arrived 3 months later as "conditional" CR-1, not IR-1. Back into the system, filed I-90 to correct it... estimated wait time was initially 10 months, then 20 months. No end in sight. Contacted our Senator for help.
POE in Atlanta was smooth, CBP was nice, but the process after that was awful.
DO NOT WAIT for your SSN. Contact the SSA.
If you enter with an IR-1 due to timing (with a CR-1 visa) DO NOT WAIT to contact USCIS.

The whole process took maybe 20min, most of which was just waiting after clearing immigration. They allowed us to go through the US Citizen line together after asking about which line to use. The officer only asked us a few simple questions and joked around with us. Pretty nice experience, especially after such a long flight. |

I arrived in the US on september 5th, so I've been here a couple of weeks.Â
Leaving Heathrow there was a slight issue as there was a block on my passport being a UK one, so luckily the Delta guy checking me in handled it well and called a number and discussed my visa etc and it was cleared.Â
I landed in Atlanta for my onward flight to Alabama (my final stop) and it was so relaxed and quiet. There was hardly anyone there. My wife (who travelled with me as she was already in the UK on a spousal visa anyway) and I were directed to foreign entry. We went through and the guy asked a couple questions which are typical such as where were we staying and was I happy for the address on the visa to be where my green card would be sent. I chose to update the address as we had leased our own place and wouldnt be with her sister now.  He mentioned he was a Alabama guy and wished us well and directed us to a waiting area.Â
After about 5 minutes my name was called and I went to the counter and the guys first words were "what happened to the pink hair?" ( as for one of my pictures during visa process my hair was pink). Then he gave me a piece of paper with key details of administrations and confirmed the address and told me to give it a few days for any updates on social security as it was labour day weekend and said "welcome home". And that was it!!
