I arrived at the US Consulate in Montreal on January 28th at 8:35 am (25 minutes before my 9 am appointment).

There was no one else waiting outside the Consulate when I arrived and the guard opened the door to let me in almost immediately. It was -27C with the wind chill so it was nice that I didn’t have to wait in the cold.

The guard told me I could talk to a woman standing at a nearby podium. I gave the Podium Lady my appointment letter and my passport. She put a sticker on the back of my passport and gave me a piece of paper that indicated what documents I should have (and in what order). The paper she gave me indicated that I’d be 16th in line.

I waited my turn to go through Security, which was uneventful. I only had my documents and my outerwear. I had stayed at a nearby hotel (Courtyard Marriott – Downtown Montreal) and had left my luggage at the hotel.

After passing through Security, I ... read complete review

My interview was January 25/2019 at 9:00 a.m. We stayed at the Marriott hotel which was about a 5 to 10 min walk to the US Consulate, there was a mixture of slush and slippery ice on some of the sidewalks from the recent snowfalls in Montreal, so I think it would normally be quicker walk. I left the hotel at about 8:05 and even though I knew where to go, just to be sure, I asked a hotel employee standing near the door to the hotel for directions to the Consulate. We walked onto the street and he pointed to the building and described where I needed to go.

I arrived about 8:15, there was no one waiting outside and a nice Security guard opened the door and I said I had an appointment at 9:00 a.m. I am early so I can wait. He closed the door and then spoke to a lady inside with him and opened the door again and said it’s ok to come in because it’s cold outside. (I don’t remember what the temperature was but it was below zero and cold but still not bad f... read complete review

All in all it was great. You can only be let in 30 minutes prior to your interview time. Everybody was very nice, as a reminder there is a list of prohibited items you can’t bring in (including smart watch, keys with with a remote start, and phone which I knew). They give you a ticket to pick it up at the end which is right behind the security screening process. I recommend bringing a book as there is no music or tv’s on and it keeps your eyes off the clock. Make sure you have all your papers in order as it makes the first step seemless. The interviewer asked me a few questions and after about five minutes I was told I was approved. I was there for about 2.5 hours but only spent my time talking for maybe 10. A week later I received an email stating my passport was being mailed back with all my stuff... very quick so I am very happy!!

Walked to the Consulate from my Airbnb. (12 mins) Arrived at 7:55 appt at 8:30. After security screen, took elevator up to 19th floor. I sat at a desk and organized the paperwork according to the order they give you on the laminated card with your number. I was 16. I got called up to the intake window at 9:30. Gave the super nice lady all my documents that were asked for, got fingerprinted and went to sit down again. My number wasn’t called until 11:30. The interview itself was fast, only got asked my husband’s full name, where he was living, why had changed embassies. He commented that my file was very well put together (because I was originally at Juarez, all my documents were submitted in paper form, so my file was about 6 inches thick! Most people there have submitted their paperwork through CEAC). He said “well I have no more questions, so welcome to the USA!! That was it. Most of the time was spent sitting and stewing over nothing. Just relax.

The interview was scheduled for 12/05/18 @ 7:30 am (Wednesday) originally but was rescheduled for 12/07/18 @ 8:00 am by the consulate due to the 5th suddenly becoming a federal holiday. Emails advising of the change were received Monday evening (12/03/18). Luckily the hotel (Le Square Phillips) was able to change our reservations and we drove to Montreal from Toronto.

We left the hotel at 7:30 and walked (maybe 5 minutes) to the consulate, which was just down the street a bit. The entrance is on the side of the building (to the right). We waited in line and both got out our passports and the interview confirmation email. We’re were let in a few people at a time. My fiancé handed his passport and confirmation letter to a woman at a podium to the right, then she gave him his number and the laminated document list. She also put an interview sticker on the back of his passport and gave it back. I handed her my passport and she asked if I was the petitioner (yes)... read complete review
