Just left Montreal on the train back to Toronto. It was a pretty seamless experience. I showed up at 7:05 this morning for my 7:30 interview time and was number 5 in line. Oh did I mention it was freezing outside waiting. The door opened at 7:30 and the let one person in at a time and I was probably in by 7:35. They handed me the list of docs they wanted and in which order. Once you get thru the scanner and security you do downstairs and we were allowed to organize our docs. We were only there for a few minutes and we got herded onto the elevator up to the 19th floor where we were further instructed to get our stuff in order. One at a time were called in order to one of 3 different windows where they asked for our docs and I was asked a few questions about my fiancé like what her name was and her address and phone number and what her relationship was to me. Then they scanned my fingerprints and I sat down. Then around 8:20or so they started calling people up to a different window fo... read complete review

We stayed at DoubleTree Hilton, which is joined to the Desjardin Center (indoor mall with food courts, grocery and shopping), underground self parking at $21/day or $32/day with valet. I strongly recommend staying there, only 5mins walk, esp. in Montreal winter!
Be sure to check the weather and dress appropriately. The ground was VERY icy and puddles of slush, so- waterproof boots, layers of clothing, etc. They don't clean the sidewalks very well because of the cold temperatures, but they add tiny pebbles on the ground to aid in traction, most people walk around with spikes on theirs shoes.
Appointment- Tuesday 5th Feb, 7.30am; Got there at 7.10am- Wife, son- 15yrs & daughter 9yrs.
Thank God, it was 4'c, day before was -13'c with sleet.
We walked to the Embassy, 5min walk, slightly uphill and very icy sidewalks- it was a bit of a challenge, the entrance to the embassy is on a slight hill.
The guard opened the door at 7.25am, the people in front of u... read complete review

I arrived at the US Consulate in Montreal on January 28th at 8:35 am (25 minutes before my 9 am appointment).
There was no one else waiting outside the Consulate when I arrived and the guard opened the door to let me in almost immediately. It was -27C with the wind chill so it was nice that I didn’t have to wait in the cold.
The guard told me I could talk to a woman standing at a nearby podium. I gave the Podium Lady my appointment letter and my passport. She put a sticker on the back of my passport and gave me a piece of paper that indicated what documents I should have (and in what order). The paper she gave me indicated that I’d be 16th in line.
I waited my turn to go through Security, which was uneventful. I only had my documents and my outerwear. I had stayed at a nearby hotel (Courtyard Marriott – Downtown Montreal) and had left my luggage at the hotel.
After passing through Security, I ... read complete review

My interview was January 25/2019 at 9:00 a.m. We stayed at the Marriott hotel which was about a 5 to 10 min walk to the US Consulate, there was a mixture of slush and slippery ice on some of the sidewalks from the recent snowfalls in Montreal, so I think it would normally be quicker walk. I left the hotel at about 8:05 and even though I knew where to go, just to be sure, I asked a hotel employee standing near the door to the hotel for directions to the Consulate. We walked onto the street and he pointed to the building and described where I needed to go.
I arrived about 8:15, there was no one waiting outside and a nice Security guard opened the door and I said I had an appointment at 9:00 a.m. I am early so I can wait. He closed the door and then spoke to a lady inside with him and opened the door again and said it’s ok to come in because it’s cold outside. (I don’t remember what the temperature was but it was below zero and cold but still not bad f... read complete review

All in all it was great. You can only be let in 30 minutes prior to your interview time. Everybody was very nice, as a reminder there is a list of prohibited items you can’t bring in (including smart watch, keys with with a remote start, and phone which I knew). They give you a ticket to pick it up at the end which is right behind the security screening process. I recommend bringing a book as there is no music or tv’s on and it keeps your eyes off the clock. Make sure you have all your papers in order as it makes the first step seemless. The interviewer asked me a few questions and after about five minutes I was told I was approved. I was there for about 2.5 hours but only spent my time talking for maybe 10. A week later I received an email stating my passport was being mailed back with all my stuff... very quick so I am very happy!!
