Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiances interview was scheduled for 9am, we arrived about 8:40. When we first walked in, there were 1-2 security guards and a women (I believe she was also security) sitting at a little podium. She asked to see both our passports (so make sure both of you have them if you attend with!) and too see the sheet with our appointment time on it, then she handed us a laminated sheet with #35 on it and said this is a sheet to follow to put your items in order, she let us through. The next room was security check, you have to take off your coat, empty your pockets, and put anything you are holding into the bin to go through the machine. Then you have to walk through a metal detector, the guard held onto my fiances phone (I left mine back at the place we were staying) and my fitbit, then gave us a coupon ticket with a number on it to retrieve our items afterwards.

We walked down some stairs to an empty room with some counters, we stopped at the counter to put our items in order, then took the elevator up to the 19th floor. Once we were up there is when we realized it was PACKED. A guard greeted us and we said we were there for a visa interview. The room has lots of chairs, but is split into two sections. Once is for visa and another seems to be for something else (maybe renewing passports/ applying for one). The visa side had no room, so the guard told us to sit on the other side and once there is more room on the visa side, just go sit over there. There were other visa couples on this side also. Once there was room, we did move to the other side. We sat next to a nice couple, there for their I-130 interview, we chatted a little bit about our relationships and stuff. We also ended up talking with another couple who unfortunately paid for the wrong police check, they didn't deny her, she just has to get the right one done(remember its the fingerprint one now that they require! - Changed in September I believe). You definitely have to listen carefully for your number because their speakers suck!

We didn't get called up the first time (to have our documents taken) until about 11am (remember our appointment was apparently for 9am), they ask you to have the list of documents in a certain order, but the window person doesn't even take them all at once or even asks for them in order, lol! You do your fingerprints at the window also, each hand and then both thumbs. We sat back down and our number was called a few minutes or so after, I stayed back in the waiting room since I can't attend the actual interview with him. The interview rooms are small rooms, but the interviewer is still behind a glass window. When he went in, his birth certificate was already in the slot for him to take back. He didn't have to give her any additional paperwork or evidence (I didn't provide texts/calls like I did when I sent the I-129f, but I did bring newer pictures of us from other visits, just in case). She didn't ask to see the newer photos, she just went through the old ones I went in with the I-129f (over a year old and I also get back). She just asked some basic questions like: - What's your name? -What's your fiance's name? -How we met. -How long we've been together. -Have either of you been married? -Do either of you have kids? She looked through the photos and saw my fiance holding my cousins baby, so she asked whose baby it was. Then there was a picture of my little sister (8) with my fiance and she also asked who that was. Then she said "Congratulations, Welcome to the United States, you'll receive your visa in 1-2 weeks." and handed him a pink paper and a white paper. FINAL RESULT: APPROVED. WAIT TIME: 3 HOURS, for a 2 minute interview. =P

~Extras: No foods or drinks are allowed, they have a snack machine and a drink machine there, so make sure you bring change! (When I was there, the drink machine wasn't working for people). If you can, bring a book or something to do that isn't electronic in case you have a long wait like we did! (they have magazines).
