    NVC now requires only photocopy of everything except completed form i-864...originals must be taken to the interview

    you don't have submit a new AOS document to NVC...just take your 2014 tax returns to the interview...that's enough

    I use my hourly x 40, then x 52 weeks. So if u make $8 per hour with a 40 hour work week, it would be (8*40)*52

    I believe you only need Police Clearance certificate from India. The USA will check you on their own. I did live in the USA for several years in my past, but I don't think I have to get Police Clearance from there. I believe they will check you within a process. Am I wrong? This question is important to me too.

    From what I've gathered over the years:
    DR = Document Review

    Just let them know at the interview and they should update the paperwork. Then they should also verify the address at POE as well since that's where the green card will be sent (I'm assuming it's the same address as most people choose the petitioner's address for the green card).

    Welcome to another monthly thread for those going through NVC. Good luck to all! Please read everything below, whether this is your first month or third
    This thread is strictly for questions and progress. If you want to rant about this ridiculous process, please do so in this side thread here.
    NVC will be closed on the following day due to federal holidays: Monday, February 16th. They are open every other business day (Monday-Friday) this month.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Before posting questions, please read the wiki I wrote on the NVC process here. Once you're done, read it one or two more times to really understand it Don't forget to also read the official form instructions as well as USCIS and NVC's websites! UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: Please read the update I posted here in regards to no longer sending original civil documents to NVC!! For up to date time frames, you can view my spreadsheet here. If you want to see a visual of the NVC process, please view my flowchart here. Freshly updated to the new process! I will be much less active in answering posts in these monthly threads, so don't bother asking me questions directly and please don't send me PMs with questions. If you send me a PM with a question that can be posted here, I will NOT reply. Just post them here for everyone to see and someone will come along to answer. Remember to be patient (re: just post once and wait) And if for whatever reason, you can't find the answer, try searching both on this website and on Google. It's amazing what you can find if you search
    If you're wondering about time frames, I've got a spreadsheet available for a reason And if that doesn't help, look at the fellow members right here in this thread! Study their signatures/timelines and make notes. VJ also has this awesome page. Use it! I sure did during my process
    And once you've got a case complete, please join Dwheels's case complete/interview thread (currently March), here.
    Also, please read Kanuk's post full of advice and observations, found here.
    New spreadsheet update!! In January, I inactivated my old request form (if you're still on the old layout, just PM me any updates). There is now only one request form active for people to be added/updated to. The current spreadsheet is more extensive than the old layout was and requires you to be up to date on things and to call NVC for specific dates. If you're not willing to do this, then don't even bother asking to be on my spreadsheet. I also issue my own version of checklists if you submit dates that don't match your timeline or if something else is wrong. Like if it shows Armenia as your consulate and/or your timeline isn't completely up to date, you'll get checklists too. So please, verify your timeline is correct before submitting a request.
    New request form (to add or update) here
    New request form response sheet (to see if you received any error notes from me or if I simply haven't gotten to you yet) here
    For checklists, you only need to send back what was wrong/missing. If your checklist didn't mention the I-864, then no, you don't send another one.
    It's fine, not all beneficiaries get an A number assigned at USCIS. You'll get yours assigned after an approved interview and it'll appear on your visa (and then on your green card after you do POE).
    Just wanted to chime in to those of you who are speaking about I-864 blanks vs. N/As etc. I'll just tell you what I did and it worked for me. Obviously I can't give a 100% guarantee of anything with NVC, but I will tell you what worked for me... I got CC last week with no checklists.
    Page 1: Fill in everything other than the sections in 1 that don't apply to you, obviously. I put NONE in #5 for alien rego number.
    Page 2: I put N/A in the Family Name blank in each of the the family members, left all the others underneath Family Name blank (Given Name, Middle Name...etc.)
    Page 3: Filled in everything. For those overseas, I hand-wrote my Aussie number in there because it was more than 10 numbers.
    Page 4: I did put 0s in 3-7 because those didn't apply to me - didn't leave them blank. On Part 6, I left completely blank the employment parts that didn't apply to me.
    Page 5: Again, for each Person in #6-9, I put N/A in just the Name spot and left the b and c sections blank.
    Page 6: I left everything in part 7 blank. No N/As or 0s.
    Page 9: Left everything blank.
    Something else I see asked a lot is about is proof of domicile. Here's what I included:
    - Cover letter like the one Saylin shows on her wiki
    - Credit card bill showing US mailing address
    - Bank statement showing US mailing address
    - Letter from friend who was looking after my things
    - Summary letter from continually paid college loans
    - Copy of Indiana driver's license
    - Certificate of title for my car
    - Australian temporary, one-year visa check and information
    I also included proof of steps I've taken to re-establish domicile of:
    - Summary letter, explaining why I've been out of the US, how my friend has been looking after some of my things while I've been gone and I used her address for US mail, when I will return to the US, and that I will be living with a family until my husband gets to America with their address.
    - Plane ticket itinerary and receipt
    -----
    Because this is also something I had a question about when preparing the AOS pack, I'll include it as well. I had to use a joint sponsor because I've lived out of the US for the last 2 years. The joint sponsor's income alone was sufficient to be my husband's sponsor. He (JS) files taxes married filed jointly, but didn't need his wife to help supplement the income requirement. I did not have his wife fill out an I-864A. Instead I included this cover letter before his I-864:
    Hope this helps some of you <3
    Technically yes, but the company may not let you work until you have a social security number. Technically you are allowed to work without one, but you can't get paid - which as you can imagine is a bit of a drawback. For that reason, many companies will not allow you to begin working until you have a social security number.
    1) You should check the box that says you are unemployed and put the date you became unemployed.
    2) You won't be counting your father as a household member, so don't include him or his income in Part 6. He will fill out a separate i-864 as joint sponsor and put all his income information there.
    your best bet is to read the instructions or i-864 carefully and read this thread carefully to see what other people have done in similar cases. If those don't work then just keep asking questions on here, that's what we are all here for .
    Saylin got a reaction from caronadlar in Montreal Consulate Pictures/Maps
    Hi everyone!
    So, back when I was waiting for my interview, I was looking around here for pictures of the consulate, specifically a drawing of the inside, so I would know what to expect. Well, all I found was this old thread with pictures of the outside (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/103460-montreal-united-states-embassy/ ). Then, last April (2011), when I went to pick up my medical results at Medisys, I decided to stop by the consulate to see it for myself as well as take a few pictures on my smartphone (blog post with pictures here: http://journeythroughimmigration.blogspot.com/2011/04/us-consulate-in-montreal.html )
    Recently, a VJ member has been messaging me about where to line up exactly outside for the interview. So, I decided it was time to get out Paint ( ) and have some fun. I took three pictures and put in some markings of exactly where to stand for the line outside the consulate. I then hand-drew some pictures of the INSIDE of the consulate. That blog post can be found here: http://journeythroughimmigration.blogspot.com/2012/03/consulate-maps.html
    And for those of you that are lazy () and don't want to click the last link, I'll post the maps/drawings here:
    The main street (running ~ north/south) is Rene Levesque. They have doors on that side, but those aren't the ones you want. On Saint Alexandre (running ~ west/east) are the doors where you want to line up. The 1 is where the first person would be, 2 where the second person would be, 3 where the third person would be, etc. So, when facing the doors, the line extends to the left.
    A closer view of the consulate. Again, 1 is where the first person is, 2 where the second person, etc etc.
    Front view. Numbers again are for the line, leading off to the left. Stand as close as possible to 1 and the doors.
    This is the first part of the consulate, entering through the doors at 1. You then move through a security checkpoint and through a scanner, at 2. You're then directed down a long staircase, at 3. You arrive in a large room, at 4, with a telephone, picture booth, and lots of chairs surrounding the elevator. At 5 is the elevator. When you enter, stand at the far left corner, marked by the X.
    View of top floor where the documents are handed in and interview takes place. You enter by the elevator at 1. The secretary is there to greet you and show you where to line up (follow red arrows). At 2, you'll one by one go up to a window where you get a number (C1 means you're first). EDIT 4/27/15: I have just heard that you don't go to spot 2 anymore. You get your number right at the secretary's desk when you get off the elevator. You then sit down in one of the chairs. At 3, you hand in all documents (AOS package, certificates, medical results, etc). You also get your fingerprints done here. After sitting back down, you'll then be called to one of the interview rooms at 4. Once all finished, you leave back through the elevator and out the consulate.
    P.S. I was going to include ALL the pictures (including the ones I found and took) in this one post, but apparently there's a maximum of 5 photos per post So, if you want to see the others, you'll have to click on the above links
    Anyways, that's all folks! Hope this post (specifically the hand-drawn pictures) helps those going to have interviews in Montreal.
    Only I-864 has to be original, translations can be copies. You should bring originals to the interview.
    Passport photos should be "original"
    A few answers:
    No second set of copies is necessary. If opening the envelope would invalidate the police certificate, then yes, that is the only original document you will send to the NVC. Only need copies of AOS documentation, only the forms need to be original because original signatures are required. One set only for AOS.
    Everything takes time . If your in the payment portal and you AOS still shows na just wait a day or two . Everything doesn't become available quickly . And once you pay it still takes days for it to even show in your bank account and also to show paid . Check back tomorrow it will show If not tomorrow check monday . It's pretty much business days with AOS and IV stuff
