No, I am giving you an example of the ridiculous nature of this mentality. Of the 'this is how we have done it and we're not listening to nobody' attitude. I realized a long time ago that logical discussions are simply not the norm, the way of deciding things, in this country. If they were, people wouldn't listen to talk show hosts and treat their personal opinions like theory. As such, I attempt to try figure out the mentality of people. Heck, many would rather base anything and everything on the Constitution; as if it's some sort of crystal ball (magical document of wisdom).
Perhaps my own experiences with the insurances companies are fabricated. If two overlapping policies cannot cover a person then, what the hell does? Removing the middle man (insurance) is exactly why health care is so affordable abroad. Government pays the doctor directly. Naturally, the insurance companies are not the sole problem. Americans are being ripped of at a range of levels

Private hospitals charging $140 for a single Tylenol tablet.
Doctors being forced to purchase mult- million dollar litigation insurance.
Pharmaceutical companies charging $180 for the same medication that can be purchased abroad for $35.
Lab tests, x-rays, CT scans, mammograms being billed at 10 to 20 times the actual cost.

Nevertheless, that does not excuse the insurance companies from their negligence. Like pre-existing condition denials or denying / canceling coverage when a person becomes seriously ill. You cannot blame that on the above mate.
The government has regulated or purchased their own equipment / hospitals to nip such extortion in the butt abroad. 'But we have better service, the best in the world!'. Strange how not one person from a first world country on here agrees with this viewpoint. That is, someone who has actually used both systems.

You mean like the choice to assist our fellow countrymen rather than watch them die? Walking all lover your fellow countrymen used to be something common amongst the uncivilized aristocratic autocracy days. You know, those king and queens days you guys fought a war to get away from.
There is zero rational logic in it not being a right. The rationale against UHC is just ridiculous by any stretch. If it was not, surely at least one other civilized first world country would have adopted it. No? This mentality is the equivalent of you trying to convince me that five wheels are better on a car, with one smack bang in the middle, simply because that's the way we have done it and what you 'believe'. Yet when I demonstrate and illustrate that every other successful auto company around the world uses four, you think they are just stupid nor care. Think, as in assume without basis or any research.
This reform is the first step as you cannot do everything at once. Funny you mention cost because I'll give you one guess what would reduce the cost and bring it down to the level of every other first world country. That is, a third of what you spend per capita now. Any ideas? First Hint: starts with G. Second Hint: Think of what libertarians loathe the most.
Sorry Paul but the American insurance companies did it to themselves. Regardless of consequences, they got greedy and ###### over one too many Americans, all for a profit. The Constitutionally protected American has now fought back against them. However, thanks to anti-government folks they have still won; as there is no single payer system. Rather, much like private contractors, they will reap all of the benefits by ripping you guys off, and call this capitalism.

The government represents the people. The insurance companies represent their board, executives and shareholders.
Without regulation, the latter will has milked the American people dry.

A.J's has used the same idiotic line for years now, that any form of enforcing the law is only done so because they hate brown people. Not only is it baseless but it's stupid - on a knuckle-dragging level.
Three miles down the road from USCIS here (DC office), you have people loitering and looking for day jobs; in an area well know for its illegal alien residents. Of course authorities cannot approach those loitering and ask for ID. Therefore, they continue hanging around convenience stores, while looking for work, and further turning the area to sh-t. Australians would burn their country down rather than allow illegal aliens to disrespect their country and its laws like that.
Why would the police asking these 30 or so people for ID be a problem? Clowns like A.J make it out as if a man of Latino origin will be having lunch with their family and the police will simply storm him asking for ID.

This one of the few times we agree. It's mindboggling to me that in the US so many people absolutely detest the government knowing even their name and are paranoid about cameras on street corners. Yet strangely enough, have no qualms with random and often unknown private companies data mining, storing and trading information about us. Data mining is not only illegal in AUS and Canada but punishable by hefty prison sentences and fines. Without my explicit (written) permission, no private company can trade or sell my information to any other company period. Canada goes one step further and has private companies completely remove your information - once you stop dealing with them. That is rightfully what every American should be worried about.
I am more than happy to have a computerized surveillance camera in my street. If I was robbed or someone was a victim of crime, the police would be greatly aided by it. Such surveillance doesn't invade my privacy the slightest but is an extremely useful tool in not only preventing crime but assisting in catching the perpetrators. For example, there was a train station in Melbourne that was notorious for crime. Consequently, every square foot of that station was covered with cameras. Crime is now non-existent there. The few dumb enough to try were quickly apprehended. End result was that the bad guys lose and the community, often in poorer areas, wins. It's the same deal with government housing there. They don't have anywhere near US style crime problems as they are now extensively monitored.
Can the technology be abused, yes but what can't? I'd rather have the tools available and punish the few that abuse then, then not have it at all.

At one time in this country we took votes on things. Now it seems like we vote first and then let the lawyers handle it. Which 10 states are so flush they can afford to feed attorneys to litigate federal law? If there is some part they don;t like, wait fr it to be enforced and then appeal the conviction or enforcement of the law.
I just get sick of the "feed the lawyers" tactic. These stupid lawsuits will go on for years and years. There exists a way to repeal this law...repeal it. Seems to me the lawsuits will cost more than complying with the law and won;t help anyone but attorneys. I think the best thing we could do for our country, health care, and just about everything else, would be to randomly execute an attorney somewhere in this country every day. when enough of them bail out of the "profession" we will have a much more livable country with much lower medical costs.
Incidentally, the attorneys know that medical tort reform is next. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY the government can run healthcare and be subject to ridiculous lawsuits. They will NOT allow the parasitic attorneys to prey on them the way they allowed them to prey on the medical industry thus far.

It wasn't that long ago that Britain really needed weapons badly and was broke and BEGGED for help. They didn't seem to see any problem when a certain country flooded theirs with weapons to help defend them. Of course after their enemies were crushed thoroughly with no potential for future threats then they decide that weapons are bad and even become such an expert that they think they can lecture others on the evils of weapons.

So far all I have heard is a barrage of rant and rhetoric against Obama and only two points actually regarding health care.
    1. We apparently have the best system in the world. Baseless of course but anyways, when did anyone need facts in US politics. After all, we started two wars, borrowed and spent over a trillion dollars on hearsay. Maybe a repub can find that in the Constitution for me.
    2. Opening up across states lines will result in some unimaginable super health care system.
