  1. Steven! I am so glad you're okay! Damn! That's alot of work! So do you mean that they're coming the 11th of THIS month? God, I hope so! You'll quit one or two jobs when they get here right? Good to wait and let Ksenia pick out where to live :P I'm glad you like the texts. I always wonder if I'm waking you up by texting. Well, I guess when you have only a few hours of sleep, nothing can wake you! Best of luck buddy! Let us know when you've got more time on your hands.

Hello to everyone :D I miss you guys. Yesterday we finally moved the living room back into its place. However, now my pillows, lamp shades, and tables don't match the new color...sheesh...so today, God willing, I am going to shop around for those things. Since I blew all my overtime money on the floor, I think I'm just gonna blow what little is left and have husband install a new sink for me. Last night I was on the floor buffing it by hand (apparently the only way to get the grout residue off the tiles). So by today the living/dining room should be FINISHED. The bedroom is being prepped. Just needs a paint job. We're not going to do anything drastic to the bedroom so that should be finished in a day or two. The tiles were already done in there. I just have to get on the floor and buff... that is so exhausting!

Funny story...all this work has totally exhausted the both of us...and on top of it all, my husband has been forced to do the watering early morning and late night (drought restrictions). So he's doing that on top of all renovations. With 100+ weather, the flowers are still suffering. The landscape was so so beautiful a couple of weeks ago... now it's just blah :dead: So last night as I fell asleep at the dinner table (around 11pm)...I realized that I have neglected my wifely duties to poor hubby (maybe that's why he's so cranky)...so I forced myself upstairs, showered, and changed. Husband was on the phone...I gave him my "come hither" look and told him to come to bed. I got into bed and the next thing I know it's 5am and my alarm is going off...apparently I fell asleep before he was able to "come hither"...and I look next to me, my husband is sprawled on the bed, fully clothed in his jeans, shirt, belt, socks, etc...apparently he got to bed and passed out asleep too! Poor us!

  2. Speaking of newlyweds... 2 years today

I spoke to mom and she said that my husband wanted to send me flowers to my office and she told him that it wasn't necessary (he can just buy them and surprise me at home)... I was like :bonk: I have always dreamed of getting flowers at work (from my husband specifically) dangit!!!!

    So much for that MOSS.....

Ok waiting for the money tree clipping. I have one of those good luck bamboo thingies. They gave it to me when I left my job. Too funny huh? Anyway, It doesn't require any care just water it. I'm sure I'll manage to kill it one way or another.

I do NOT have a green thumb. I hate mowing the grass. I got my daughter's BF to mow the grass yesterday. I am allergic but mostly I just hate doing it.

I want to go to the beach on Saturday but none of my joker friends want to go.

What is everyone doing for the holiday weekend?

    Sarita,

I say go with a HONDA. it will last you forever even if you neglect it a little.. Save the beemer for when you don't care how much it costs to upkeep the dang thing !!!

 Yes, you can definitely kill a bamboo...I've managed to kill several  I miss you! I wish I was close by, I would definitely go to the beach with you! So they got you bamboo for luck huh? What's the matter honey? Do you need your homegirl to send you some karma stars??? :star::star::star::rofl:

  3. Balance requires that all aspects are looked at when wondering why criticism is sometimes levelled at Muslims. If some Muslims make hateful and untrue statements, is it surprising that an apology is met with cynicism? Too often I see religious people complaining about tolerance when some appear to show little respect or tolerance themselves.

Muslims aren't the only people who have called jews "prophet killers" or whatever the term they used. Mel Gibson had a similar debate about jews killing Jesus and they also tried to attack him for that. He stood by his statement and referred to the Bible when defending himself. I don't see people harping on him about it, till this day...

  4. Good morning everyone. Sorry I missed you all last night. I got a call from the sleep center. They had a cancellation and called me to come in. So I figured may as well get it over with. I didn't sleep that much, so today I'm tired as hell. Looking forward to your posts to keep me awake!

Hmm...Seren, keep in mind the cost of repairs, parts, and insurance for the BMW...not to mention the maintenance. My understanding is that you have to go only to the dealer for that stuff. It can be very expensive. My experience has been that people usually love their BMW's but after a few years are dishing out money left and right on repairs. I've never owned one, but my mom, brother, and uncle have. That is what I've seen. If you're gonna dish out that kinda money why not go for a Benz??? They seem to last longer and have less problems.

Well the tiling is all done...now we must repaint, because the tile doesn't match that color we painted a couple of weeks ago. So now we're "debating" which color. I think we may have come to a mutual agreement. Overall though, this whole project has made me HATE decorating and honestly, at this point, I would like nothing more than to sell the damn house and move out! Funny thing is the owner told my husband that if he wanted, he would give him a job

Speaking of job...Lisa, have you heard back about your hubby's ead? I hope they have finally gotten it to the right place! Will it be Vermont? or California? What a mess! Did you get the congressman involved?

Well I better go get my coffee (large today) and have my smoke so I can start my day

Catch you guys a little later!

  5. I'm surprised no one mentions the possibility of movie about Jackson's life. There's plenty of material from a 40 year old career with the music and his oddball private life. I wasn't a big fan but I had a list in my mind of his songs and strange things I remember hearing about him.

Who would play the Gloved One in the movie?

    Jaime Fox maybe?

  6. Good morning everyone :D

Hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I just want to say that husband has been on top of the workers' heads. Poor guys. They put down tiles and if it's not perfect, husband pops the tile right back up and makes them do it over. Good thing though...I'll probably have the most perfect flooring ever made  Spent yesterday cooking (we invited the workers to join us for dinner) and then moving the bedroom stuff out of the bedroom. My poor house. It's like 3 whole big rooms of furniture is being crammed into the rest of the house. Everything is just upside down  Can't wait till it's all done. And now I can finally feel like it's all really clean! No more carpets! Washed floors and fresh painted walls (also washable). I'm in clean freak heaven! :innocent::lol:

  7. This is not an insignificant matter to me personally.

My own US Citizenship derives from this fact. I was born in the US to parents who were legally, but temporarily, here.

You, too, are American through the circumstances which gave you this status.

you are a citizen by accident. i am a citizen by nature of a lineage of legal immigration going back to 1736, with a fellow named Erasmus Holtzappffel, who's children served in the Revolutionary War and every American conflict since.

I didn't write that I am a citizen "by accident". What I wrote was:

I treasure my US citizenship, yet at the same time I recognize that it is mine through an accident of birth.

The exact same thing is true of you. You happened to be born to when and where and under the circumstances that granted you US citizenship. You did nothing more special than I did. All you did was emerge from your mother's womb while on American soil, just as I did.

the difference is, it wouldn't have mattered if i was born on the moon. i would still have been American.

most of the rest of the civilised world attributes to a child the citizenship status of their parents. if you were born in a european country you wouldn't be german, or swiss, or french. you just be a canadian.

If your parents happened to be vacationing and your mom gave birth to you in a foreign country, then what? Your lineage would matter none. Your parents would also have to process papers for you to obtain your US citizenship.

I'm just wondering though...if your wife had a baby with you, wouldn't you want the child to be a US citizen? What about people with just one citizen parent? Which country do they get citizenship of? How would you like it if they decided that your child should be a citizen of your wife's country and not yours???

  8. Fair enough - but a woman living in a devloped nation wouldn't suffer from a poor diet most likely- therefore what is the basis for the vitamin deficiency. Also it has been shown that vitamins through supplements are not as good as acquring them naturally through nature or food.

really!? community health drs and nurses and nutritionists would find that amazing!

are you freaking kidding me? we live in one of the wealthiest, highly developed nations in the world, and the nutritional statuses of a lot of people here are dismal. an astounding amount of people in fact.

 No kidding! I am going to remain  Because no matter how much medicine based evidence you provide, it's still all the hijab/niqab's fault

:secret: By the way, you do realize that Denmark because of it's location, has very little hours of sunlight in the winter time...so the whole population would be affected (not just veiled people).

  9. What the **!!!! Oh my! You know cnt never uses foul language like that, but I think today it's justified

I don't get it. Texas Service Center DOES process them. Maybe not for your state, but they do show on their processing times, times for EAD's. Yet, all of ours have gone through Vermont...which made me wonder why yours was going to Texas.

OMG...it's like a disaster with these people!!! Can you contact that helpful congressman's rep? The one who helped you out before? At least maybe she can see to it that they finish it in 2 months from now (instead of making you delayed another month). Y must be :ranting::diablo:

I'm so pi$$ed off for you hon!!!!

  10. Desperate? Can you prove she is lying? I had never considered that rickets would be an issue, so that part of the article surprised me too. Perhaps a doctor can give an opinion?

Can't prove she's lying and can't prove she's telling the truth either. I just think that something which is normally fixed by a change in diet is a desperate way to argue the banning of an article of clothing.

Rickets is a softening of bones in children potentially leading to fractures and deformity. Rickets is among the most frequent childhood diseases in many developing countries. The predominant cause is a vitamin D deficiency, but lack of adequate calcium in the diet may also lead to rickets (cases of severe diarrhea and vomiting may be the cause of the deficiency). Although it can occur in adults, the majority of cases occur in children suffering from severe malnutrition, usually resulting from famine or starvation during the early stages of childhood. Osteomalacia is the term used to describe a similar condition occurring in adults, generally due to a deficiency of vitamin D.[1] The origin of the word "rickets" is probably from the Old English dialect word 'wrickken', to twist. The Greek derived word "rachitis" (meaning "inflammation of the spine") was later adopted as the scientific term for rickets, due chiefly to the words' similarity in sound. In many languages it is known as "English disease".

    Epidemiology

Those at higher risk for developing rickets include:

Breast-fed infants whose mothers are not exposed to sunlight

Breast-fed infants who are not exposed to sunlight

Individuals not consuming fortified milk, such as those who are lactose intolerant

Individuals with red hair have been speculated to have a decreased risk for rickets due to their greater production of vitamin D in sunlight.

If a mother has low vitamin D levels during pregnancy, her infant may have rickets at birth; this is often referred to as Congenital Rickets.

    Etiology

Vitamin D is required for proper calcium absorption from the gut. In the absence of vitamin D, dietary calcium is not properly absorbed, resulting in hypocalcemia, leading to skeletal and dental deformities and neuromuscular symptoms, e.g. hyperexcitability. Foods that contain vitamin D include butter, eggs, fish liver oils, margarine, fortified milk and juice, and oily fishes such as tuna, herring, and salmon.

A rare X-linked dominant form exists called Vitamin D resistant rickets.

    Presentation

Radiograph of a two-year old rickets sufferer, with a marked genu varum (bowing of the femurs) and decreased bone opacity, suggesting poor bone mineralization.Signs and symptoms of rickets include:

    Bone pain or tenderness

    dental problems

muscle weakness (rickety myopathy or "floppy baby syndrome" or "slinky baby" (where the baby is floppy or slinky-like))

increased tendency for fractures (easily broken bones), especially greenstick fractures

    Skeletal deformity

    Toddlers: Bowed legs (genu varum)

Older children: Knock-knees (genu valgum) or "windswept knees"

    Cranial, spinal, and pelvic deformities

    Growth disturbance

Hypocalcemia (low level of calcium in the blood), and

Tetany (uncontrolled muscle spasms all over the body).

    Craniotabes (soft skull)

Costochondral swelling (aka "rickety rosary" or "rachitic rosary")

    Harrison's groove

Double malleoli sign due to metaphyseal hyperplasia

Widening of wrist raises early suspicion, it is due to metaphysial cartilage hyperplasia.[1]

An X-ray or radiograph of an advanced sufferer from rickets tends to present in a classic way: bow legs (outward curve of long bone of the legs) and a deformed chest. Changes in the skull also occur causing a distinctive "square headed" appearance. These deformities persist into adult life if not treated.

Long-term consequences include permanent bends or disfiguration of the long bones, and a curved back.

    Diagnosis

A doctor may diagnose rickets by:

    Blood tests:

Serum calcium may show low levels of calcium, serum phosphorus may be low, and serum alkaline phosphatase may be high.

Arterial blood gases may reveal metabolic acidosis

X-rays of affected bones may show loss of calcium from bones or changes in the shape or structure of the bones.

Bone biopsy is rarely performed but will confirm rickets.

    Treatment and prevention

The treatment and prevention of rickets is known as antirachitic.

    Diet and sunlight

    Cholecalciferol (D3)

Ergocalciferol (D2)Treatment involves increasing dietary intake of HGH, phosphates and vitamin D. Exposure to ultraviolet B light (sunshine when the sun is highest in the sky), cod liver oil, halibut-liver oil, and viosterol are all sources of vitamin D.

A sufficient amount of ultraviolet B light in sunlight each day and adequate supplies of calcium and phosphorus in the diet can prevent rickets. Darker-skinned babies need to be exposed longer to the ultraviolet rays. The replacement of vitamin D has been proven to correct rickets using these methods of ultraviolet light therapy and medicine.

Recommendations are for 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D a day for infants and children. Children who do not get adequate amounts of vitamin D are at increased risk of rickets. Vitamin D is essential for allowing the body to uptake calcium for use in proper bone calcification and maintenance.

    Supplementation

Sufficient vitamin D levels can also be achieved through dietary supplementation and/or exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the preferred form since it is more readily absorbed than vitamin D2. Most dermatologists recommend vitamin D supplementation as an alternative to unprotected ultraviolet exposure due to the increased risk of skin cancer associated with sun exposure. Note that in July in New York City at noon with the sun out, a white male in tee shirt and shorts will produce 20,000 I.U Vitamin D from 20 minutes of non-sunscreen sun exposure.[citation needed]

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), infants who are breast-fed may not get enough vitamin D from breast milk alone. For this reason, the AAP recommends that infants who are exclusively breast-fed receive daily supplements of vitamin D from age 2 months until they start drinking at least 17 ounces of vitamin D-fortified milk or formula a day.[2] This requirement for supplemental vitamin D is not a defect in the evolution of human breastmilk, but is instead a result of the modern-day infant's decreased exposure to sunlight (i.e. breast-fed infants who receive adequate sun exposure are less likely to develop rickets, though supplementation may still be indicated in the winter, depending on geographical latitude).

  11. H gained about 5 lbs. while I was in Egypt, and never lost it after I left... He gained about 15 lbs. after getting here because of the inactivity of winter and joblessness, and the boredom and stress of sitting in the house watching tv and eating 24/7... He was eating nuts like a squirrel! He quit smoking just before he came so I'm sure he was eating more related to that too...

He then got DISGUSTED that his jeans from Egypt didn't fit any more so he quit eating nuts, and starting eating an entire Romaine "heart" (lettuce) every night in front of the TV... We got a 6 pack of them from Costco every week and he'd eat one per nigh t CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH!!! He lost all of the weight he had gained, and is back to his "6 pack Abs.."... tehehehehehe

Just amazing to me how quickly he lost it... He went from a 38 waist to a 32 waist in about a month... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr not fair!

:yes: So true! Mine gained like 3 pounds his first month here and within a weekend lost it (doing yardwork in the heat).

  12. the notion that one must wear a burka in order to defend others' rights to wear a burka is absurd. i'm repulsed and disgusted by hate speech and websites like stormfront.org, but in a truly free society, such things have every right to exist. i don't have to participate in hate speech in order to defend its right to exist. the aclu, when it defended the rights of neo-nazis to march in a parade, defended their free speech even though everything those marchers stood for was repulsive to them. (a few of the lawyers who defended them were in fact jewish) it's not truly freedom though unless everyone is covered, even those whose actions are the hardest and yuckiest to defend. burqas are how some people choose to practice islam, whether you like it or not. and a truly free society does not impinge on their right to wear it.

equally absurd is the idea that any individual enjoys the right to impinge on someone else's right to religious expression because there also exists the right to freedom from religion. because i have the right to freedom of religious expression does not mean i can ban someone from wearing a t-shirt in public that says "god is dead" on it. nor can anyone else's freedom from religion prohibit me from exhibiting whatever form of religious expression i want, just because they don't believe in it. that's a hallmark of a truly free society, one that france does not have.

i'm not understanding what egyptian affinity for french decorative accoutrements has to do with the horrors of colonialization either. i'm an anglophile, and love all kinds of english stuff, but that doesn't mean that i'm a fan of the british colonialization of the united states. i'm still a fan of the american revolution even though i think england is a really cool place. you seem to be suffering from the same mental block as dienorglerin, who equates the offensiveness of gang rape to the french having to deal with a few random people in burqas in public. no one is calling for full-scale war and violence against the french in retaliation for their hideous and brutal colonial history. even though some of them don't like it, they should have to deal with the fact that a few people in france want to wear burqas anyways-and if they don't like it, tough. other people have been forced to deal with for worse over the course of history. france is getting off pretty easy.

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

that article was rubbish. what will be the next form of religious expression banned by governments of europe then? do those who support this ban honestly feel that governments can and should decide what, when, where, why and how people practice their religion? liking the idea of governments establishing curbs on other people's religious freedom, just because you don't like their practices, is a very dangerous, very slippery slope. eliminating another person's choice to wear whatever they want is every bit as wrong as forcing a person to wear something they don't want to wear. both are unacceptable assaults on personal freedom.

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

That's HER own personal experience...It doesn't give her the right to advocate what others should do! What about the ones who enjoy it and see their FREEDOM AND LIBERITY in it? How come that's not oppression on her side asking everyone to take it off because she doesn't like it!

    :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Nowadays they have vitamin D supplements which can be purchased over the counter you know... and also, vitamin D can come from foods/milk. I don't think lack of sun has anything to do with the Rickett's...bad diet perhaps. There are plenty of non-covered men and women that get this disease. To make a statement like that (hijab/niqab leads to Rickett's) is pretty desperate.

  13. Good morning everyone. Okay, we went with the marble. Hubby is very happy now. Keeps talking about how this was the right decision and the best pick. I'm so glad he's so proud of himself  Well that's a big load of anxiety off my chest :dead:

Seren, totally true...I mean some men have great design ideas, I'm sure...but his tastes tend to be more from his homeland and they don't agree with my tastes.

I told him no more decorating decisions until the flooring is laid down. After it's down then we can decide on paint colors, etc. So last night he says, "Do you have any work for me tomorrow?" I think he gets anxious when he doesn't have a project to keep him busy. I told him, "Take the day off" He didn't look too happy so I told him, "You can caulk the tubs and the windows"... He asked me "What's caulk?" I shook my head and went to bed

  14. Buy a few tiles (enough to cover a few square feet) of each of your choices and take them home...live with them on the floor for a few days and see how you feel about them. he may decide that he doesnt like his first choice and then you can have your way

Yes, the kitties are all siblings, but i think the owner wants to keep one anyway, so the third can stay with its mom. :luv:

I see GS!!! hi honey. I hope all is well and you guys are having the time of your lives. :luv:

This is exactly what we're doing. Yesterday we bought 4 tiles of his choice. I just called him and told him to go back and get 4 tiles of my choice and that we would make a decision. I also told him that I felt really bad and wanted him to feel like he had a real say in the matter. I told him we would get any flooring he liked as long as he promises to repaint if I feel that the tile doesn't match our wall. He said he would do whatever I wanted and that he really didn't care much. I just feel guilty for not choosing anything he liked. I would hate to be in his position, so I feel really bad. Well, I guess we'll see what happens today when I get home.

Oh, the kitty will stay with his mom? That's okay then. I'm just stupid like that. I worry more about animals than most humans :P

  15. I love kitties... Are the 3 siblings? Aww...you can't take just 2 and leave one alone!

Well yesterday we went tile shopping. Husband has his heart set on natural marble tiles. They're beautiful, but they dont' seem to match. I have my heart set on this ceramic tile that is a little bit more expensive. My thing is that natural stone has varying colors and designs in it...that just doesn't go well with my OCD-ness. I need uniform design dangit! Since I have veto'd his judgement about almost everything we've done (except the drapes) I am feeling pressured to let him have his way...but this is a floor we're talking about. Extemely expensive to install too. Not something you can just change on a whim.

The whole thing is giving me anxiety. I want it to look nice. Yet, I don't want to hurt his feelings and keep rejecting his decorating ideas. Any suggestions?
