  1. hi,

I just called USEM call center to try and set my interview schedule. she told me that the case has just been uploaded on their system last March 16th but but unfortunately, my case is still not eligible to be scheduled for an interview yet :crying: . I was just wondering why and when can I schedule my appointment. She said to wait until I recieve a notice of instructions. I really dont want to wait for the notice because i understand how long the post office here in manila takes. thats why i choose to call instead.

Does anyone knows how long do I have to wait from my case to be uploaded to the time I can set my interview date?

Is this true? Can I have my medical even without interview schedule yet?

My fiance already receive a letter(hard copy) with mnl number from nvc with march 4 as letter date but our case is not yet forwarded to usem. So, can I have my medical now?

\yes it is true. its just that when your on the information desk after filling up the forms, they will let you sign something that says, wanted to do medical without the appointment letter yet. it might be like a waiver since medical results expires after 3 months.

Thanks for the reply. Are you done with the medical?

    yes I am last wednesday.

  4. Put her shopping

Buy Coach Purses and Coach Luggaes for travel

Coach is very popular and expensive in USA, Coach Wallet is 7,000 peso in USA and about 150 peso in PI.

Another thing I found to do was to wheel and deal with the guys selling the Rolex Watches on the streets of PI , they make great cheap gifts to your buddies.

They will walk around offering 2 watches in a case for around 1000 pesos. You can easily talk them down to 250 to 300 peso for both watches

I brought back like 12 rolexes last time, and gave them out to friend.

Another thing if she needs any dental work done, have her go to dentist and get checked out and have everything taken care of in PI. It's penny on the dollars for dental care in PI......

I wanted to do my braces here but they said when i get to the US, the dentist will just take it off because it has to be maintained by the same dentist that put it on.

  6. +6323012000 extn #5184 = This is the number where you can verify if your case is already in the USEM (actually this is USEM's number hehe) and this is where you can ask if you can already get an interview schedule. It's free to call in this number of you are calling from within Manila.

1-909-101-7878 = This is where you need to call to get interview schedule. Calls made to this number cost 53 Philippine Pesos per minute, plus applicable provincial charges. This number is only for subscribers of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company touchtone landlines with national/international distance dialing features.

If the USC is the one who will get the interview schedule then he/she must use this number.

1-888-877-9888 for callers from within the United States (mainland only) = When calling this number, please have a credit card (either Visa or MasterCard). The expiration date and security code are required. Please have the postal code of the billing address of the credit card ready. The card will be charged $18 per transaction. After the card is approved, a nonrefundable personal identification number (PIN) will be given. The PIN may be used to call this number back just one more time, which will allow the caller to speak to an operator at no charge.

The pin number allowed 3 calls last year. When did it change to just one call?

I paid the $18 pin and called to verify if they got my case already. I knew the pin is good for 3 calls as the us embassy's site shows its for 3 calls. before i ended that first call, i verified if i will stil have 2 more calls, she said the rule changed and its only 2 calls so i only 1 remaining. i asked for a supervisor as i was pissed. i showed her the site of the US embassy manila that shows it is for 3 calls. she apologized and said that she will escalate that one and informed me that the 2 calls was recently rolled out. grrrrrrr..

Last year, during my time (Aug 2008), that $18 pin can be used 3 times. Actually, I am the one who scheduled my interview date so we didn't purchase that pin but I know for sure that you can use that pin 3 times (during my time). But i just recently visited USEM's website and it says there now that you can only use it twice. Here is the link.

    It says:

The card will be charged $18 per transaction. After the card is approved, a nonrefundable personal identification number (PIN) will be given. The PIN may be used to call this number back just one more time, which will allow the caller to speak to an operator at no charge.

Can you send the link where it says you can use it 3 times? I am just curious as I am thinking that there is inconsistent info at USEM's website???

go here http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3219.html then scroll down up to the part that says How to schedule your visa appointment:

the 6th bullet will say For more information on this service, please click here. then click that hyperlink and that will show you the pdf file that shows 3 times the fourth Answer would say that.

  8. you don't want the medical too early because i think it is only good for a certain amount of time but i don't know what that is

the medical is only good for 3 months

hey is it true that it is only good for 3 months?

    oh my gosh

    please confirm this!

    thank you

yes it is good for 3 months only. if you have sputum test, the result will only be good for 1 month. if your case was sent to manila already, you may go ahead and do the medical be sure you dont do it to early as you have to pay again if anything.

  9. After 2 months been stuck at NVC finally they forwarded our paper here at manila embassy and its feel better because we know move on and for now i will just wait my letter from us embassy and i like to thanks to those people here in vj who replied my message to them thank you so much guys  God bless us all here in vj.......

weehhh!! were on the stage. I was stucked @ NVC since January 20 and they sent my case to USEM last March 13. I called the call center to see if they got it and want to schedule an interview date last TUesday March 16, but they said, they only got the electronic notice from NVC that the case is completed and will soon recieve it case. Did you all already? When did they send your case from NVC?

  10. Hello .I am coming in Manila on the 24th. I can meet her that night and give her few tips on what to expect and check her things for her interview. PM me so your fiancee and I can talk.

My case was just sent to manila last march 13 and I just got done with my medical. Im waiting for my visa to finally arrive here at US embassy so that I can schedule my interview already. I can hang out with her if you want.

  11. I'm having trouble finding a decent way to send money to the Philippines. I've tried a few different ways already.

    1. My first attempt years ago was Western Union, way too expensive.
    2. Then I been using Lucky Money until one day they decided to stop using my checking account, or it was my Citizens Bank that started to refuse, so I had to start using a credit card, which gets me the cash advance fee, again too expensive.
    3. Finally I went to my 2nd bank at Wells Fargo and set up an international remittance account to send money to Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI). They were retards at the bank, and didn't realize how it's done. They thought it could be done where I log into my account from the bank website. Didn't work, so then they called up customer server and realized the first transaction needs to be done at the bank. Ok, did that, but then still problems later. Finally found out need to go into the bank every time, or make a phone call to customer service every time I want to transfer money. Big hassle. Then later, for no reason, I notice my remittance account is closed. Maybe cause I wasn't using it enough? I don't know.

Going thru a local branch here seemed to be the most secure and cheapest way, but had way too much hassle and sometimes didn't work. Going thru websites was easier, but more expensive.

    Limits:

    Lucky Money: $1k/month

    Xoom: $3k/month

    Wells Fargo: $3k/day

So now I'm trying Xoom and having problems.

    1. I tried Citizens bank first, with routing number and account number off my checks, but transaction canceled with no reason. So I contact them and they need to verify my ID with copy of this and that. So ok, I did that, verified my ID, but transactions still canceled. I call up Xoom again asking what the problem is and they said I need to tell my bank to authorize the withdraw. So I call up my bank customer service, and they said go into a local branch to sign authorization. So I go to a local branch, and they are unaware of any papers to sign for authorization. I explained how the websites worked, with routing/account number, etc etc, but my bank insisted that pre-auth is not required if I have the routing and account number. So I asked if there is daily limits? They said no.
    2. Went back home and tried my 2nd bank Wells Fargo using checking account routing/account numbers, same problem, withdraw/transfers being rejected.
    3. Tried to use Paypal, which is linked to my Citizens Bank and been using that paypal for years now with random ebay shopping. I didn't want to go this route cause its $40-60 fee to send when funds come thru Credit Card or Paypal when transfering from Xoom. But now even Paypal is is flipping out saying that Im spending too much.

I hear the post office can offer services, but only up to $2k/day and anything over $1k for single transaction needs paperwork to fill out. I'm not interested in filling out paperwork.

I am trying to send a large ($1-3k) at a time. About to start building a house over there for about $10k which might take 3-4 months to build. I assume all this paperwork stuff is ways for the government to find more ways to tax me or something, dunno. Banks and websites getting real paranoid with large amounts of cash. Just same, its not like I'm trying to transfer $100k or anything.

Yes, I have more than enough funds in my accounts. My credit cards are used each month, and paid in full, with zero balance again. My credit scores are around 815. What is the problem with using my own cash? Its not like I'm applying for a loan, or lower interest rate. Its cash!

I remember long time ago hearing about some bank that has an ATM card that can be used around the world with little or no fee for withdraw. Is that possible? What bank would let me to create an account over here, then maybe FedEx the ATM card to my Filipina so she can withdraw the amount I put in?

Are there any other websites that are easy and inexpensive? I'm tired of jumping hoops and paying big fees just for trying to send money. Worse case senario is send more money thru Lucky Money using my credit card and paying the big cash advance fee again, just to get by until I figure this out.

Who else sends money to the Philippines? (I bet everyone that is petitioning a Filipina) Whats the best way to send/rec money?

Sorry for the long read. Hope some others can relate and advise to what I'm going thru here.

    Hi,

I work with PayPal for 2 and a half years so I used this route when my fiance was sending money. We also use it when he is here in the Philippines sending money to his US bank to pay his loan monthly. I understand that you have some sending limits every month that will be unlimited when you get verified. All you got to do is to have you PayPal account Verified. You may choose to request for a PayPal Debit Card, send it to the philippines have your bank account as the back up funding source for your PayPal debit card. But keep in mind that if he is withdrawing money from an ATM machine, you need to have a balance on your PayPal account. But if she swipes the card, the back up funding source will kick in. (though honestly, there are some 'bugs' that is not letting the back up funding source work) thats what they call RISK MODEL. its a jargon but thats their term for that if you cannot use your back up funding source.

second option is, create her a Philippine PayPal account, add your checking or savings account, verify the random deposits. Have her apply for an EON card at unionbank please check https://www.unionbankph.com/default.html on how she can apply here. Thats the only visa debit card that can be added and verified on a Philippine Paypal account that can be used to pay online, withdraw money from her PayPal account as well. though its expensive to withdraw the added funds from your bank account to her PayPal account using this EON card. but thats just an option thru PayPal.

third option is applying for an LBC padala or remitance account. That will send your fiance an ATM card in the philippines. regardless of how much you are sending it only cost $10. she can only withdraw Php20,000 out of the card every day but can go to any LBC branch in the philippines to withdraw the full amount u sent her on that same day.

the two options i would recommend is let her have a debit card from your bank, dont have her withdraw money from an ATM machine, instead swipe the card instead. you dont need to pay anything to send her the money, exchange rate even better, though there is an international transaction fee of around a dollar or two. and the other option is thru LBC remittance since regardless of the amount you send her, you only pay a fixed amount to send her the money and its real time. PM me if you need further expanation.

  12. do i still need to enter Guam?
You can enter the USA and it's territories from any of it's POE's whats to say you planned on a marriage in HI, and honey moon there before "going" to Guam. Or perhaps after you interview and have visa, something comes up and US Citizen moves to another state before you use the K-Visa. The I-134 has to do with situation at time it was signed, not with the situation after, this can always change.

I would not worry about this

I see. thank you. that answered my question. thanks!

  13. Hello my felow stucked friends,

My fiance filed my k1 visa petition when he was in Guam so the poverty guidelines he used is based in Guam as well. Today, we have decided to get married in Hawaii and stay there for a year or two instead of Guam. After my medical today, I was instructed the CD of my medical results will be sent to my port of entry.

I remember when I was filling up the forms on my medical three days ago, it asked me whats my petitioner's address in the US, so i put the Guam address. and asked what is my port of entry, I put in Guam.

During the releasing of results earlier, the nurse had me double checked the address for letter correspondence and it has the Guam address. I was hesitant to tell the nurse that we were thinking of living in Hawaii instead. Hawaii's poverty guidelines is way higher than in Guam. Im afraid that it might complicate during my interview because my fiance's income tax shows just enough for 6 persons based on Guam's guidelines not Hawaii.

Can I change the address when I get to the US?

Please note: THIS IS NOT IMMIGRATION ADVICE. I'M NOT A LAWYER OR ANY KIND OF EXPERT. CHECK WITH A LAWYER FOR EXPERT ADVICE.

I don't think the address you put on your medical papers are very relevant to this issue. The POE you intend to use is entirely irrelevant. You can enter anywhere in the US and it should have no bearing.

I think that what will be much more important is the US address you put on the visa application itself, particularly the DS-156,DS-157 and DS-230. Most important of all will be the I-134 that your fiance needs to complete as Affidavit of Support. That's where he effectively is taking an oath regarding his ability to support you. If I were you, I'd be very careful to ensure that he completes the I-134 truthfully with regard to his finances and his current address (I-134 does ask for 'residing at' address). Usually the address has no bearing on the threshold support levels, but since in your case it does, be sure to put his current address there.

I.e. - For I-134 the real issue you should be concerned with is where does he live right now? If he currently lives in Guam and has not yet moved to Hawaii, then put Guam on I-134. If he's already moved to Hawaii, put Hawaii. If you fear he won't have enough income then either have him list additional assets (if he has them), or consider getting a cosponsor. Or stay in Guam a little while longer :)

For the DS-230 they ask for 2 US addresses: the permanent address in the US where you intend to live and the address where you want your green card mailed.

If you already have a Hawaii address where you intend to live, I think you should provide that for both entries. If all you have now is the Guam address, use that. You CAN change your address later, after you are in the US. DS-156 asks "At what address will you stay in the US"- same advice applies.

I've just gone through a similar consideration. Ok, much less drastic - I didn't move across the Pacific ocean, just 10 miles from one Chicago suburb to another. Still, I had filled out all the Packet3 papers in January when we got our NOA2 using my old address. I've since moved in Feb to my new house, and I've redone all the forms so everything consistently has the new address on it.

    Basically, your guidelines should be:

    1. Never lie. Both when filling out forms and at the interview, state your true plans and intentions regarding where you intend to live (Hawaii or Guam), and on any subject they ask about. You don't have to volunteer information not asked for, but never, ever, ever misrepresent your situation.

    2. Where possible, make all the paperwork consistent. Try to have just one address on all forms. It will remove unnecessary questions in the mind of the interviewer, and lead to fewer explanations necessary by you for why there are different addresses. However there could be a valid reason for different answers. E.g. - if your fiance is currently residing in Guam, but you already know the permanent address you will live in Hawaii, then you could put different answers on I-134 (Guam) and DS-230/156 (Hawaii).

    3. If you think that providing Guam address gives you a better chance at qualifying for the support thresholds, consider staying in Guam until past the point of your immigration, and then move elsewhere (e.g. Hawaii) later. Even very shortly later - like a month after you've immigrated. That lets you stay truthful in the process, claim Guam as your fiance's residence, and still satisfy your personal goals to live in Hawaii.

Good luck, please let us know how it goes!

Thanks!! i might consider the 3rd option. However, this means I have to adjust my status in Guam first because I cannot enter Hawaii without changing my k1 visa since it is single entry right?

He previously is from Hawaii but since last year, he is staying in Guam. All of the papers when he filed the petition is shows Guam address. How if the papers will show Guam as the address up until i get my visa, enter Hawaii, get married in Hawaii and decided to live in Hawaii and adjust the status in Hawaii having enough income when I adjust my status. My only concern is, his income on the affidavit of support is just enough based on guam's guidelines. I wanted to get my visa first without changing Guam's address to Hawaii, fly to Hawaii and adjust the status in Hawaii based on Hawaii's guidelines this time. If they say, howcome you've never been to Guam when you're fiance filed the petition in Guam? We could say that after getting married in Hawaii, we've decided to live there instead.

K1 visa is a single entry visa right? What happens to those people who is from the mainland with lower poverty guidelines that wanted to celebrate their marriage and honeymoon in Hawaii? How can they fly to mainland considering K1 is a single entry visa?

Can I change the address when I get to the US?

  15. If you are going to stay in Hawaii for a "year or two", then you will have to meet the poverty level of that state.

You will either have to change your I-134 or not go to Hawaii for a "year or two"

Once you arrive in Guam, if you move to Hawaii, you will be free to do so, however, you will need to use the Hawaii level when you fill out the I-864 for the AOS.

The basis of the poverty level is where you currently live.

so can I enter HAWAII using the Guam poverty guideline? We have prepared the affidavit of support based on the GUam's guideline right now and will have the interview set by next week. we are planning to get married in HI and if i like it there, we'll stay there. Then when I adjust my status, I will use the poverty guideline of HI in the I-864, is that possible that way?

Yes, as far as the consulate is concerned, your paperwork indicates that you are moving to Guam, nothing is stopping you from changing to HI, and there is NO restriction on moving to HI.

do i still need to enter Guam?

  16. If you are going to stay in Hawaii for a "year or two", then you will have to meet the poverty level of that state.

  18. Hey you guys!! I was able to get a hold of an agent without calling the paid Call center service here at our US embassy manila. She said that they got an electronic notice that they just got my case today however, they still dont have the case yet. I really dont get that. It may be something like just on their computer it shows that they got a notice and will still review it. I asked when do i need to call back like next week, and the line got disconnected.

  19. We are Out of Bondage :dance::dance::dance::dance: package sent on 3-12-09...:whistle: Now im singing, this is what I do best. Thank You God....

I would like to know how everyone tracks there package from NVC to the Embassey???

Thanks for the support this site has really help me.

Congratulations!!! Way to go

To track DHL packages, I just did a search for 'DHL' on VJ website, there are many discussions about it.

    E.g.

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=127513

i called USEM call center today and they still dont have it. even if DHL shows that whatever was sent last friday was recieved yesterday. I even asked to talk to the supervisor because I bought an $18 pin just to talk to them. US embassy manila shows that the $18 pin can be used for 3 calls. So i budgeted my calls having the first call to ask wheather they got the forwarded case from NVC, I was planning to have the second call to set an appointment by thursday and the 3rd was supposed to be when i needed to make a follow up on the visa after my interview. I was surprised that the agent told me that the pin is only good for 2 calls. That pissed me off and made me look for a supervisor.

I showed this supervisor where i found the information, and she agreed and apologized. that was a misinformation! i was forced to email a complaint because of this,

Anyway, after NVC forwards the case to the consulate, when is the best time for me to call if they sent it last friday february 13 to set an interview date?

    Thank you.

  20. Hi, I went to St. Lukes yesterday to have my Day 1 medical done. I am with my daughter with a K2 category. minors dont do lab test so I had my xrays and all the lab stuffs. She had a skin test and I didn't had mines. I have a question, how do you know if the skin test will be positive? Remember the doctor encircled around the skin test shot? How is that ba? if the red mark goes outside the encircled portion, is that the indication that she is positive of TB? Hers is like red just within the circle, it didn't go over that. But if it does, is that positive of TB and what will happen? She can't travel with me anymore?

    Thank you.

Let the race begin :) Who will arrive first?

Note that their Lucky's pouch is 36.6lbs, ours is 3.6lbs - I guess that means 10X as many Philippines packets go out as Thailand?

Hey, I saw your tracking number and it shows that it has been delivered today. same thing as mines. tell me when you are calling your USEM ha. thanks.

Yes, I saw that too, about it being delivered. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether those are really our cases.

If you scroll back, you'll see that Todd mentioned that I looked for the wrong shipping reference "EXP 12 MAR 2009A" - should look for 13 MAR instead, and it will go out in today (Monday Mar 16) DHL pickup. I'm not sure about that, since in past posts on VJ about DHL, I've seen the instructions to enter the PREVIOUS day reference to the day we were told it was released. That's what I did.

Anyway, either it's there at the embassy, or it will be very shortly.

I wasn't planning to call the embassy. I was just going to wait till my fiancee tells me that she gets Packet3 from them.

I've already sent her everything - I134, tax returns, etc. And she' s already done the medical, police, single status long ago (back in Jan when we got our NOA2).

So I hope we can turn around the Packet3 very quickly, and get our interview scheduled.

Good luck Lucky, and good luck everybody!

All the newcomers, welcome and don't lose faith. All the oldtimers, please keep posting about your progress.

    uscandual,

so if she had her police certificate and medical a long time ago, does it have expiration date? cuz mine has. My police certificate expired march 16, 2009 so i have to get mines again. I did my DAY 1 medical today. becuase here in the philippines, medical is done like 2-3 days or even longer. However results will expire in a month or 3 months i guess. so you have to pay again if it expires. i wanted to call today and check. will let you know laters. hehe

  23. hello guys,
