Hi. I know this is a late reply and I'm a new member so you might prefer advice from someone more experienced, but nobody replied so far, so maybe it will still be helpful.
From what I've read (and I have been reading for days now) the fastest way to do it would be K1 (Fiancee visa). You can check the guides here for K1 and K3 (Spouse visa) and decide for yourself what you'd prefer doing.
Either way, good luck to you and congratulations!

My new ID arrived in mail 10 days after I applied.
Less than 2 weeks after I applied for the passport, I got an email notifying me that it is done. It will be shipped Priority mail and it should arrive by the end of the week.

Now this feels weird. This means I am done done. No more paperwork, USCIS, anything. It is so weird and I hope all of our April files get to experience it soon. Its been 10 months so about time to get it wrapped up!

Your visa will expire 6 months from the day of the medical so you might want to push your medical closer to your interview so you don't get a visa good for 1 month or less...just in case you get delayed.

So I just wanted to give you an update on my case...I applied for naturalization in April 2018 based on the 3 years rule, and I had my ROC still pending. I had my interview in LA California last week, my husband couldn't come with me as he was working out of town, the officer didn't ask about him at all...she was nice, and I passed all the civic questions, and the English test. She went over all my application again, and then I gave her my marriage certificate, and my son's birth certificate as she was asking about him, and the tax return of the last 2 years and she made copies of all of these documents. But of course she couldn't make a decision on my case as the ROC was still pending( I applied in May2017) but she said she is gonna give my case to her supervisor so they can expedite my ROC, so she can make a decision on my n-400, I asked her how long it might take? she said anywhere from 4-6 weeks. As of yesterday I got the approval for both the ROC and my n-400 naturalization. It just took them a week to finalize  them both. I'm still waiting for my oath ceremony letter. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for letting us know! By the way, did they let you apply for the passport during your Oath Ceremony?
I got my Oath Ceremony scheduled for Feb 21st, so I'm trying to get everything ready for it, haha!

    Hello Hypnos,

Sorry to hear that your application was denied. Actually, I have also submitted my naturalization application in the early hours (1:00 am EST) of the day  I became eligible. I completed my interview and interviewing officer told me that they could not make decision at that time because of some "timing issues". I have been waiting for the decision for more three months.

Hope your congressman can help you. Please keep this thread posted so other can benefit from your experience.

    I wish you good luck.

Thanks for all the good wishes. I know I can always rely on my VJ family in these difficult times. It's not been a fun couple of days, that's certainly true.

I'll try and touch on some things people have said... I have so far been unable to make an Infopass appointment (no appointments available), but intend to keep trying. I did visit with my Congressman's local office today and got a good feeling from it. They are going to bat for me on this.

One thing that I feel very much sways things is @punter13's contribution, where they had the same precise issue of filing on their first day of eligibility but their priority date was set to the day before. Ultimately, their application was approved, and approved at Dallas no less, so we share the same field office. If USCIS approved their application, they cannot then deny mine under the same circumstances. I have passed that information along to the congressional liaison working my case, and am hopeful that that may turn out to be the "smocking gun" here.

A couple of people have asked me to post redacted documents. Attached you will find (1) my AmEx receipt indicating USCIS charged my card at 2:32am on 1/3/18; (2) the emailed receipt from ELIS indicating that I paid for and submitted my application at 2:32am on 1/3/18; (3) a copy of the denial notice that USCIS posted to my online account.

I will post further updates as they occur!

I would also suggest getting an Infopass appointment for this, and bring all the paperwork proving you filed on the proper date, including the denial letter---if the infopass appointment is in the same field office where you had your interview, and the IO or their supervisor is available to speak with you, you may be able to resolve this on-the-spot...

Yes, 2:30am Central. I intentionally waited until it was the 3rd everywhere in the continental US. Fat lot of good that did.

Ivy. reacted to Hypnos in N-400 Denied (anyone who intends to file the day they become eligible, read this)
So I became an LPR on 3rd April, 2013. This meant that according to USCIS' filing calculator I became eligible to file an N-400 on 3rd January, 2018 (plus five years minus 90 days). I filed my N-400 online through ELIS at 2:30am, staying up late because I was excited to finally begin this final chapter in my immigration journey.

I hit an early roadblock when the receipt NoA for some reason assigned me an N-400 priority date of the previous day, 2nd January. The "application received on" date was correct since it said 3rd January. I posted about it here more than once, and the consensus seemed to be that USCIS would honour the "received" date, not the "priority" date.

It took a year of waiting (thanks, Dallas backlog) but I eventually got my naturalisation interview scheduled for 14th January of this year. I dutifully attended, answered all questions and passed all the tests, but was told a decision could not be made. Well the decision was made tonight, and a denial notice popped up in my online USCIS account. The reason? I applied too early. The notice stated that I applied on 2nd January, 2018, and was only eligible to file on 3rd January, 2018. Again, this wasn't mentioned at the interview, and I brought all my emailed ELIS receipts and other documents showing I filed on 3rd January in case they ever brought it up, but they didn't.

So it's been a fun night. After a brief period of shouting, loudly, I began to move into attack mode.

What I have done so far:

    1) Emailed the CIS Ombudsman giving them the entire story, receipts with timestamps showing I applied on the correct date, and all that jazz. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the Ombudsman is closed right now as part of the partial federal government shutdown, so I'm not really expecting much out of this immediately.

    2) I'm going to my Congressman's local office tomorrow to give them the story and all the same documents and seeing if they can intercede with USCIS on my behalf.

    3) Emailed my old lawyer and another lawyer that helped me back in 2013 to see if they can offer suggestions. Not trying to freeload on them; I offered to pay whatever fee they deem reasonable on this, since it's obviously no longer in DIY territory.

    4) I'll be contacting the two biggest local newspapers, the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, to see if they're interested in doing a story on this. I figure the more attention I can get on it the more likely I am to get something done.

I also have the option of either filing a fresh application, together with its $725 fee and one year wait time, or an N-336 formal appeal of their decision. Fun fact on the N-336: it costs $700 to file, and you will often wait almost as long as it costs to process a new N-400, so they kinda get you coming and going on that one. I'm not ruling anything out yet, but for now I'm hanging my hat on something from 1-4 getting me somewhere on this.

So at the end of the day, anyone intending to file for naturalisation on the day they become eligible: DON'T DO IT. Wait a couple of days, then submit. You will avoid all this bull, and can instead deal with some other USCIS bull that will be unrelated to this.

Now it's time to write some letters to newspapers and see if I can get anywhere. I will post replies here as to what happens, if anything meaningful does.

3 hours? Hmm, that seems like overkill. At my wife's oath ceremony we arrived 30 minutes early at the Santa Fe site. They opened the doors 30 minutes later than they say they would. The entire 1 hour wait in line was a waste of time. All the people standing in line (about 200 people waiting to be naturalized) were processed within about 45 minutes and the first in line didn't gain any advantage over the last in line. Everyone sat in assigned seating for the ceremony.

Well, no matter when you get in line, I wish you the best of luck. It's the final piece of your journey. Enjoy!

Ivy. reacted to bluestrudels in N-400 April 2018 Filers
Hey guys, I became a US Citizen today. Thank for you this thread and everyone for sharing their experiences to help me with this journey.
I teared a little when the supervisor gave a really touching speech about the immigration process and how this marks the final milestone.

My interview was today, 1/16 at 7AM at the Newark downtown USCIS building.
We arrived 6.45am, the doors were still locked and there was already a line formed.
It was freezing out btw, shortly after security staffs opened the doors a few minutes past 7.
Full on airport style TSA security check, so if you don't need to bring your laptops or big liquid bottles, save yourself the trouble.

15 minutes later, we arrived at the 15th floor, another guard checked out IDs both me and the husband.
To my amusement, there were already like 10 plus people before us waiting for their interview.
The clerk took my interview letter and reviewed my ID, and instructed me to sit until my name was called by the interviewer.
I was pretty nervous, still tried to cram in as much as I can from the booklet.

Another 20 mins in, my name was called along with another applicant, and I was greeted by a nice gentleman.
Very professional and polite, he started by making me swear in before I take my seat.

There was a brief moment of awkwardness when I told him that I was previously residing in New York, and only moved to Jersey a few months ago.
He seemed mildly agitated because he had to run through the file to do a write up.
Then went ahead to finger print me, take my picture and verify all my application details.
There were some discussion about me not willing to bear arms if the country needs me to, he suggested to change that, if not, it will complicate the process, and usually only Jehovah's Witness people with appropriate paperwork will get approved.
I reluctantly agreed, and he proceeded to the quiz. He asked 6 surefire and quick questions, and I answered them very quickly, and it was over before I knew it.
So there won't be 10 questions if you can successfully answer all 1st 6 questions correct.
I'm listing the Q&A below if this helps:
    1) Which group of people were brought in the United States to be sold as Slaves
    - African People
     2) Who is the current Vice President of The US.
    - Mike Pence
    3) What is the highest court in the US.
    - Supreme Court
    4) Reason the colonists came to America.
    - Freedom and Economic Opportunity
    5) How many Amendment are done to the Constitution?
    - 27
    6) During the Cold War, what was the US most afraid of?
    - Communism

After the quiz, we proceed to the reading and writing portion. Fairly simple.
I read from an ipad, Who can vote? And I wrote on it, All citizens can vote.

Next, he went through the procedure of asking all the security related questions that you had already answered in the application (Are you criminal/terrorist/rapist etc)

Before I know it, I signed my application after verifying all my personal details were correct.
He took out a form, and told me I'll be scheduled for the Oath taking later in the day.
I was over the moon! He prides that only in the Jersey field office have such a benefit compared to the other states, so he highly encourage family or spouse to accompany applicants for their interview.
Overall, it was really pleasant and wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be.
I brought a boatload of documents, worried that they might want additional info/updates on the past year since the application date, he didn't ask for a single one.
My file was thick.. He said they have everything they needed. My advice though, is still to bring all your IDs, documents, it's better to come prepare since the wait is already so long.
I also tried to crack a few jokes here and there, and I think it ended on a really good page when he handed my notification on my pass and the oath document.

I shook his hand, went back out, waited for my name to be called by the clerk outside again.
The clerk took my green card, and also requested my expired green card, which I stupidly left out.
She reassured me its fine, and gave me a green envelope saying I can mail it in when I get home.
I verified my details on my naturalization cert, and told me to come back here after she confirmed my time for the ceremony at 9.30am.

We went to the cafeteria at the 2nd floor for some breakfast and coffee, didn't ate anything prior.
Promptly returned at 9.15am and at 9.30pm sharp, an announcement was made, we were whisked into a room with arranged chairs, a mini stage and theater.
The usual, the officer congratulated us, showed us a few introductory videos, and proceeded with the singing of the anthem, oath taking and pledge.
Watched a cringe worthy video of Trump welcoming us, the newly naturalized citizens. It was quite terrible, as you can clearly tell he was reading from a prompter without expression.
We ended the process by waving our mini flags to the song "Proud to be an American", and they called out our names to receive our certs.

After phototaking, the last step was applying for my passport.
Conveniently the packet includes the application form, and the post office is just across the street.
They gave us 3 options for delivery, standard - 4-6 weeks, rushed 2-3 weeks, and urgent priority which requires documentation for the urgency - 1 day overnight delivery.
I took the 2-3 weeks one, had to pay cash, it's surprising they don't take card.
It's hefy! $250 after taxes. It's probably also because I applied for the passport card at the same time.
Oh and be sure to ask the post office clerk to make a copy of your naturalized cert, they take your original for the passport application, and will only be mailed back to you separately when you receive your passport.

On and all, we are so thankful for all the people that helped us in this process, and hope our experience can help the next person with their journey as well.
    Best of luck!

. I am sorry this happened to you. It's unfair that they would reschedule it if they do not specifically request the spouse. I hope you have it soon and that your baby gets well.

I passed my interview today. My case status changed online 2 minutes after I walked out of the office. My application for citizenship has been accepted and it is pending final review before I go in line for scheduling for the oath ceremony.

I was also approved for an oath modification based on a strong moral or ethical belief. My oath omits the parts "so help me God" and "bearing the arms for the US if required by law". It does have the part about performing non-combatant services if required by law.

All in all, it took about 30 minutes. We walked in 15 minutes before my interview time and the officer separated me and my husband before we got to the waiting room. I was taken straight to his office for the interview and put under oath. It was really relaxed, with people coming in and our for other issues, he left for a second too and reminded me I was under oath when we came back, we talked about Luka Modric winning Balon d'Or and Croatia winning 2nd spot in the World Cup this year :D
