  1. Given your role, your insights are very welcome, Life's Journey. Based on your knowledge and experience of the processes, would my husband's application not even be considered even when it comes with the relevant Status Information Letter from the Selective Service System?

Thanks in advance for your reply

    Laura

Laura, his biggest hurdle will be security clearance. Please read the post above by Max he has spelled it out clearly. Again, all you'll can do is try.

  2. Is a part of your job hiring people? For every department?

Part of my job is hiring people that have been cleared by OPM. The government works the same no matter agency, location or job. It is called process and procedures, no matter what what most of you'll think the government does run in an effecient manner.

  3. Laura, applicants are sent thru a point check system, but I would still apply. BTW, I am not trying to discourage him, but I also am trying to give you basic facts. You can always try caliing OPM(Office of Personnel Management) and ask how candidates are selected.

  4. Laura, I wouldn't give up just yet. I am not sure the information is correct in that thread about passing him up before interviews. Your husband barely lived in the US; so little, in fact, that he cannot pass on USC to his kids. I know the law, but I think your compelling reason is, well, compelling. I don't think the US government, if otherwise over the moon about a new employee, would pass that up for confusion from someone who wasn't in the country during that time. I'd see what the status is and also see if you can talk to contacts in the US (any people he knows from his own work) about hiring protocol. Of course the SSS will want to talk about themselves, you know?

Do you work for the federal governmnt? I work for the federal government and live in washington DC, so please add if you have had experience.

  5. All applications goes thru a check point for validation of information. I am not clear on how you'll will propose to attach this letter, will you be attaching it to the resume? I am quite sure you do understand that some applications will be weeded out because they will not meet the federal security chek point.

To apply or not apply is a personal decision. yes, I would apply, but would every know the reason as to why he would not be selected, no.

    Good luck.

  6. Durning security screening for a federal job it will be detected, he will just be weened out of the application pool. There will not a time for him to verberally explain why he did not register for the selective service between the age of 18-32.

Before you naysayer say not 18-32, there are branches of the military that you can voluntary join up to the age of 32. So corrections could have been done up age 32, it would have been better at age 18,

  7. How about men who sleep with many women...Cultural? Or not?
Completely unacceptable by US Standards.. And by mine as well, but I wonder if some cultures find it acceptable..

My first realy culture shock experience was when I was in Colombia one evening returning to the hotel with a group and noticed a man hitting a Woman.. We are not going to sit still and let a guy beat up a woman. but... We had a local guy walking with us who told us if we interfered, we could be in trouble.. Seriously? we didnt know what kind of trouble he meant, but, being on foreign soil limits our rights so we simply made sure the guy knew there were 6 guys watch him.. He stopped hitting her. But the point is; Cultural.. I know many Colombian woman who chose to remain single rather than tolerate that type of treatment, but there are those that live with it hoping for bettter..

    Cultural? Or not?

Did you just asked this question, so you are trying to tell me American men don't sleep with alot of different women. That was a joke right.

  8. Again thank you Marlon, now down to serious business, if the OP was hurt and distraught by her finance behavior, why is their picture as a couple still part of her profile. She blasted him out on a public board with picture and all, is this a person who is seriously looking out for her relationship.

Would I ever come on public board and blast my husband out... HEXX NO. I also believe that alot of his comments were taken out of context, sometime things said in a heated argument are not said as they are meant.

  9. so are u implying that her man is a jerk or azz? I know that u r jamaican but u dont know either of these persons. r u just referencing that comment based on the post by the OP?

My Jamaican man and his entire community where he lives scribes to that same philosophy. That he -- is the man and I as the woman is an extension of him . . that is how most folks in the mountains of Jamaica feels at least the ones that live in St. Ann Parish. The folks there did not care to know my name just that I am Brooks' woman . . . and actually sometimes he even called me that - "woman, where are u at" .....and still does.

That being said - my man - cause he was raised with this philosophy is not a jerk or an azz . . He has never been off the island . . . neither have any of his immediate folks/friends . . . As I stated in my earlier post his position can be refreshing at times and challenging at others . . .Just depends on what the USC can deal with . . .

Jamaica is a very poor society and there is NO question that Jamaica culture is far different from USA culture -----like nite and day.

    WHAT A HOT TOPIC!!!! :star:

I comment was not referencing to any culture, it was made in reference to the individual just acting as an azz in coments that were made by the OP. It doesn't matter what their race or culture is, there are better ways to have the conversation that he was having with the OP.

Because the country is a developing country doesn't mean that everyone living in Jamaica is poor.

  10. Yes, it's a little Sarcasm, but there is a diferent personality with Jamaicans, russianS, colombians, or anyplace.. All have thier inherent culturally influenced components of thier personalities..

To say culture has nothing to do with it; is naive..
It's good when someone can put all the years of local culture and enfluence aside and make their own descisions, but it's not typical.. You can be from Los Angeles, California or Laredo, Texas, growing up anyplace will absoulutely enfluence your behaivior, and your reasoning...

What does culture have to do with someone being a jerk or an azz. There was nothing that this young lady printed that was cultural.

  11. I take it that you're just being sarcastic?

Jamaican women aren't much different from other women around the world. You'll find diversity just the same like every where else. You can say the same for the men. I always despise the comments I often see about Jamaican men, being one myself. I certainly know I don't fit in with the stereotype of being controlling and insensitive. I certainly don't think culture has anything to do with a person's character. That has to do with ones upbringing; and everyone is not raised the same. Even so it's not circumstances, upbringing or culture that makes you who you are, but the choice you make of whether to become a better person or not.

Marlon, I for one ignore stupidity, and some of these posts fall within that range but when people put their personal business on the public internet they are subject to all coments.

  12. Ask your finance to tell you how many of his friends or yardie peps have a vistor visa anywhere. That will answer your question. He will have the same issues with trying to obtain a vistor visa to the UK, Canada and the US. I also second the question that was asked aboved, if you can travel to the UK than why is it you can't travel to Jamamica. Maybe the UK question is leading to something else.

Without a visa, Jamaican nationals can actually travel to many countries. Places where a Jamaican national may visit for an unlimited time without a visa would be: Antiga, Barbuda, Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Dominca, Fiji, Gambia, Grendada, Haiti, Honduras, Ireland, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Surinam, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 6 month visit to: Barbados.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 3 month visit to: Bahamas,Bermuda, Chile, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, San Marino, South Korea, South Africa, Turkey.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 1 month visit to: Argentina, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Monaco, Papua New Guinea, Uruguay.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 2 week visit to: Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten.

  13. Because we are engaged what visa other then the visitation visa should he look into? Thank you for replying.

What is that you want to do, visit, migrate, or what ?

If you'll are looking to bring him to the US so you can live your life together than you need to study the guide tab above.

  14. My fiance lives in Kingston Ja & I need to know how to get him to the US to visit. I'm medically unable to fly there & would like to know where to start with this process. Will my medical problems guarantee him a visitation visa?

    NO

He must apply for a visior visa on his own merits. His chance of a visior visa is the same as you playing the 350 million dollar lottery and winning. Neither will know unless you pay to play or pay to apply for one.
