Thanks Kimmy, I'm hanging in there.
Island woman, I know about the distance taking its toll on us.. I was just there in January so its been about 3 months but by the time I get there in June it will be about 5... we do talk everyday on the phone several times a day... which is a killer on my phone bill...but I'm sure you all know what that's like.
Mrs, I live in nyc so I can fly out JFK, Laguardia, or Newark. I usually do a supersearch through travelzoo.com so I get search through all the major travel websites at once, I usually book with Expedia though.
If you go to Airjamaica.com they have specials - the one I bought is good till June 24th. Sale is $288 but of course once they tack all the fees etc it came to $380, but it was the cheapest I found for non-stop.
I know all about the phone bill!!! The best deal we found right now is Digicel international that gives 1,000 minutes for $1,000ja for a month. That will last us just about 2 weeks. Anthony bought a 2nd chip for his phone so we get that deal for the 2nd half of the month as well. That has been a big saver. For me to call him I buy Sprint prepaid phone cards. If you watch CVS, they have then buy 1 get 1 free every so often.
Ladies sorry to chime in on your conversation but I found that Rebtel at www.rebetel.com offers great rates from your Mobile. at 19 cents a minute, also you can assign a local number to correspond to their Jamaica number. Check out this web site. www.Rebtel.com

I talk to my husband at least three times a day, because like everyone else I miss him so much. We haven't file our CR1 yet, because we are waiting on the job visa. If that doesn't play out, I will go there for the entire summer and work via my own make shift satellite office. I just informed my boss of this and he just blinked twice and left my office. Ha Ha.
He thinks I am joking, but right now I am calling for my Sprint Mobile Broadband Connection Plan for my laptop.
I am a woman on a mission.
Good fo you Rox...I say GO FOR IT!!! All dem cyan seh is 'NO'!!! I WISH I could've don somehing like that!
Good luck,
Gill
Thanks Gill, a couple of hours later my boss came back into my office and asked me was I serious ? I told him that I was very serious, then he told me to submit a business proposal as to the how and what projects/assignments I would like to work on. Now this seems more like it, everyone is getting on board with my game plan. My boss does not know that I am married, since I only got married two months ago. I don't think I am going to let him in on this yet. I had spoken to him about doing some community service projects in Jamaica awhile back and he was very intrested in what I wanted to do. I had spoken about putting together a summer school program concentrating on math, reading tutoring and computer programming (tech) training. Focusing on the children in middle shool, I have worked as a volvuteer doing tutoring in these area before.
But my husband wants me to leave it along for right now, he says now is not the time. We are going to disagree on this, but I will not push to hard on this right now. I will wait until he is here in the USA with me.

I go to a website www.callingcardstation.com and I purchase an STI Extreme Africa Card. I get 56 minutes when I call him on his cell phone and 40 minutes when I call him in the home.
Its pretty good, we have had a few problems in the past but it seems to be the best one
A friend of mine also told me about a "Magic Jack" Its VOIP (like Vonage) You pay $39.95 for the year and get an area code that is in the area you live in. You send it to them and they can connect it to their PC and call you direct for free.
I haven't bought one yet but I will let you know how it works. He seems to like it and calls his family in Senegal with no problem.
Do you know if that Magic Jack or Vonage thing works in Egypt?
Try this web site. rebtel.com.

Hi
I am in Uk going to get married in Jamaica in May. While i was looking up visa info i came across this forum and I would like to say I wish the one in UK was as supportive as this one you all have each other's backs.
They don't want to let the Jamaicans into the UK - the refusal rate is very very high - how is it form JA to USA.
one love.
Congratulation on your up-coming marriage. Remember Love knows no boundaries, Do you have a Plan B, I do remeber reading that the UK will be enforing new visa rules and policies.

AFAIK, it depends on which work visa he would come on. Some are dual intent, others are non-immigrant, so entering on one would be equivalent to entering on a B-2 with intent to marry; however, that's more the seasonal work visas, if it's an L or an H visa, I think it's fine. However, be upfront about it so in case there are any issues you can deal with them now instead of later.
(NEVER EVER EVER lie about marriage status. If it is asked, it NEEDS to be answered, because if there's a misrepresentation that USCIS finds out about, he's in big trouble.)
However, it sounds like he's going for the H-1B if he is applying tomorrow, because USCIS is acception petitions until April 7th, which would be ... tomorrow.
So it's probably a-ok.
Thanks for the advice. YES we have agreed that he will state he is married. Also, I informed him that he should go and get a copy of the marrige certificate aswell. Presently, I have the only copy that was handed to us on our wedding day. I'm hoping that this question doesn't come up in the interview so we don't have to deal with it.

I agre with Kimmy & Marlita. Should be no problem applying to adjust status once he is here. And, I strongly agree with them.....please tell them the truth throughout the entire process.
Is he going to be employed in your state or city? That would be so incredible if that were the case.
We, too, talked about the work visa. But, like Marlita said, it was not happening quick enough.
Good luck to you!
Hi, I am so glad to hear from everyone, and yes he might be employed in my city or within a 50 miles radius of where I live. I am keeping my fingers and toes cross that the work visa comes thru. He will be turning in his papers tomorrow for the work program. We have been bless, because we found each other and now truly bless because I have found this site that can lead me.

Kimmy is on point!
If your hubby entered the US legally then he can adjust his status while here in the US...he doesnt have to go back to JA to wait for it. This is one of those luxuries that most dont have cause they were not able to get to the US legally with another visa. But if your hubby can do that... great!!
I tried to see about my hubby doing it but it was taking so long that we just applied for the visa the old fashioned way.haha
Ladies, you'll have given me some great news and advice. We will follow your advise and continue on the path of the work program. I will let you know when he get his work visa.

Hello Rox,
First welcome to VJ. You'll get so much great info here. Its been a life saver to me.
Secondly, I think thats great that your hubby got the work program going for him. He should NOT lie however about being married cause that WILL affect him getting his greencard later. You will have to show your marriage license later for that and if the dates dont match...big trouble.
I don't believe that USCIS will look at him working in the US legally as unfavorable...as soon as he starts lying it will be unfavorable.
I say continue down his path for the work program, and then apply to adjust his status once he's here. If he doesnt get granted the work program then continue with the plan to apply for his CR1 visa while he resides in JA.
First let me thank you and all that has welcomed us to this site.
Now let me get this straight, if my hubsand can come on the work program, I can apply for an adjustment of his staus from here and he does not have to go back to Jamaica to wait for an Interview date for the I30. If that is so, I would be in heaven. I am trying to weigh all of our options. So if there is anymore in-put you or any other VJ is willing to share with me I would be so greatful.
Be Bless,

Good morning everyone,
First let me start by saying I am new to this site and process. I just got married in February to my wonderful Jamaican husband. We are in the process of putting together the documents for the I30, but he might have an oppportunity to come to USA on a work program as eary as next month. I would love to have him here; he will be located in my state, so we will be a lot closer. Also, he wants to work and I respect this of him. If he comes here on a work visa, will USIC look at this as unfavorable? He may have to tell them, that he is not married if the question arises. We hope this is not asked of him.
I have many more questions, but this one is of my most concern right now. Thanks for any in-put anyone may have on this.
Be Blessed

I found a flight for those dates on Delta for 387.00 including taxes. This price is only on this site, if you go to Delta it is higher. I am a travel ageant, so I did some searches for you.
Hope this is helpful.
