    Did you mean he had 30 cases in the past? I’m not judging but are you willing to marry someone with that many records? How well do you know this person?

    @Leeman15251 That’s not entirely true. I have friends whose parents moved here and have naturalized after living here for 5 years. Never worked or paid taxes but are on Medicaid and Medicare and receiving SS income and SNAP as well.

    I am from Ghana too but girl, you need to take it slow and study him well. Even I won’t sponsor a man from my own country. This is just my humble advice.

    Someone should correct me if I I’m wrong but I don’t think child support is considered as income for immigration purposes.

    What paperwork did you do to change her last name? With just the marriage certificate, you could have gone to SS office to get her new name on the SS card. If she entered the US with her maiden name on her passport and visa, then it’s likely her green card would be issued in that name.

    It’s not correct that you do not have to bring copies of the Affidavit of Support. Some embassies require the original one that the petitioner signed with an ink.

    I think it’s up to you. I’ve read about instances where the kids grow and are unable to show proof of their citizenships. The passport alone is okay until the proof is needed especially, when both parents are not there to provide the necessary documentation.

    It was the same with my husband and he still received a 10 year green card. You do not have to contact them. Just wait until it arrives.

    My husband did remind him and he still went ahead and stamped his passport with a CR1. However, he was issued a 10 year green card. There are people who got IR1 stamps and still received 2 year green cards in error. You’ll never know until the green card arrives.

    @JeanneAdil I don’t know what you mean by your reply but my mother has been living here with me in Maryland for 8 years so I know what I’m talking about. She could only get Medicaid after her 5 years of residence. My income doesn’t even play any part in that decision making because she is considered an adult on her own with no income.

    Most states won’t give her any benefits if she hasn’t lived in the US as a permanent resident for 5 years.

    So if you didn’t apply for an AP and you overstayed your visa, how do you intend to come back to the US if you reschedule your interview? What kind of visa would you come with?

    @JeanneAdil It looks to me like it was edited to add his then wife to make it look like he was living together with her which wasn’t the case.

    @OldUser Okay, thanks for letting me know. I remember the interviewer telling me if I wanted to keep my last name hyphenated with my husband’s name, then I had to wait but if I drop mine and take my husband’s, it could be done the same day. I didn’t know the rules were different for different places.

    What is she changing her name to? If she’s just taking your last name and dropping hers, then it can be done the same day. I did same when I did my naturalization.

    @JF-JR Once you file the IR2 and he enters the US, he becomes a permanent resident. As to paying the fee to the acquire a green card, I’m not too sure about it. Even if he requires a green card, that shouldn’t take more than 90 days to receive. You can get him a passport but the risk is that, if in the future, you are not around, he may have problems renewing the passport because he wouldn’t have anything to prove his citizenship.

    @JF-JR Your child should be eligible for citizenship immediately after he enters the US and obtains his green card. Just make sure to file N-600 so he doesn’t struggle to prove his citizenship in the future.

    @Romantic18 He did take it with him but they didn’t request it. I had the opportunity to see him before the interview so I was able to get it to him with the ink signature but I guess that wasn’t a priority for them but my original divorce certificate was.

    Usually, they are given a slip after the interview with the instructions to pay the fee. Did they not receive one? I know my husband did receive one for sure!

    @Andrew-Whop Sorry to hear that. Have you or your fiancé tried to contact the embassy about it? The London Embassy is responsive to inquiries as far as I know.

    @mico1989Athens When my husband attended his interview at the London Embassy without the original copy of my divorce decree, he was put in AP. I had to mail it to him to send to the embassy. They wouldn’t accept a copy. It’s better you sent it to her than later be sorry.

    @RBS Congratulations to you. You should receive an email from the embassy today or Monday since today is Friday. I believe the email comes with a link to track it. If you chose for your passport to be delivered to your address, you should get it by next Tuesday or Wednesday.

    My husband entered on September 11, 2024. He received his green card on September 19, 2024 Green card on November 21, 2024.
