  1. My wife lived in Japan for a few years and we just received its police clearance in the Philippines. Do we (for those that experienced the same thing) open up the police clearance and scan it, or do we scan the envelope and upload it to NVC? We're scared opening up the clearance will invalidate it and having to get another clearance will either take a long time or not possible at all.
  2. the income definitely qualifies her. I'm just worried about if she has to live in my household address to qualify. Talking to USCIS agents so far, they say the "joint sponsor" needs to live in the same household as me, so it has me worried.
  3. I got laid off from my job and it seems really difficult to land another job in time for the immigration process if I'm being realistic. My wife's cousin is a green card holder who has lived in America for about 7 months now with just 1 tax return so far. Does she qualify to be joint sponsor? Her cousin doesn't live with me, so she's not considered part of my household. From what I've read, it seems that a "join sponsor" would need 3 years worth of tax returns and be in the same household as me? When I asked Emma and spoke with a live agent, they pointed me to these links: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-864a.pdf https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-864ainstr.pdf
  4. Resolved, i found the answers here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/while-abroad/birth-abroad.html
  5. I married a filipina in the Philippines, we're working on our spouse visa now. She also got pregnant and we're expecting in a few months. Because I'm American, what are the steps I'd need to take to make sure my baby gets US citizenship even though they will be born in the Philippines? Where can I get more information on this subject?
  6. We're at the USCIS stage and waiting for our NVC case number. In the meantime, my wife's tourist visa to visit america expired. Can she renew her tourist visa to visit me in the states? How long can she stay?
  7. TL;DR What documents does an American need to bring to the Philippines for marriage and to fulfill the needs of a I-130, spouse visa? Sorry if this is a repeat question, but I spent some time searching for it on visa journey — guess their search engine is not that great.
  8. TL;DR I'm going to the Philippines in a few months to marry my girlfriend. For the sake of "bonafide marriage" is there a certain amount of time I have to be in the country? Longer details: We've currently applied for the K-1 visa, and I already bought a 2-week summer trip to visit her. Then, we decided to change to CR-1 instead and plan to get married during my summer trip. She did some research and it turns out it takes about 2 weeks for the marriage certificate to be processed and advised I should stay an additional week. I'm kind of resistant to the idea because airplane prices have gone up, my workplace might give me some trouble, etc. But if it's essential, then I'm definitely going to do it. Just wanted to hear other people's past experiences to help me make a guided decision.
  9. USCIS has received our K1 application with a receipt date of Dec. 2021 at the California processing center. We're now over 6months into the journey. We're both working and stalk Facebook groups often to read about people's timelines and what they're going through. The latest idea that spooked us is that even after the whole K1 journey ends at the marriage part, we're hearing that it'll now take about 15 months to get a green card to start working etc. If it was the historical 6 months of idle time to get the green card, I would be okay for my partner, but 15 months for life to be on pause would drive her crazy and I'd rather for my partner to be happy. I imagined it as 2 paths, let me know if this is pretty accurate: K1 Path: 1. Wait out the 13 months of "normal" processing times, get married in US probably in Feb at a courthouse. 2. During the supposed 15 months of idle time, my partner can plan the wedding and chill ... or, most likely she'll be frustrated with not being able to do much. Spouse Path 1. I write a letter ASAP to withdraw the k1 visa. 2. I have already bought plane tickets to visit her in the Phillpines in early September for 2 weeks, we can use that time to do a quick courthouse wedding 3. I return to US, apply for the Spouse visa 4. Supposedly, we wait 6 to 12 months for everything to be processed and she can start living in US after a year. *The "supposed" times are all based on what we read from other people on facebook. I have yet to find a lawyer to confirm those times. But, based on our situation right now, which path should we go?
