Montreal embassy EB-2 interview wait time-Part 2
mgsctravels replied to Blueeyes1989's topic in Canada
Hi all, I recall earlier in the thread a few people had a good Canada-U.S. tax accountant they would recommend. I have some investments including property I own in Canada, and I know things will get complicated soon on both sides of the border. If anyone has a good recommendation based in Toronto or New York, please DM me! -

I crossed the border Jan. 24 in Buffalo, but an officer forgot to verify my docs in the computer system and they didn't catch it until I crossed the border at YYZ on Feb. 2. It was delivered last week. -

Sorry for the delay. It was the same address as the GC, but the address was the one listed on the DS-260. -

One last data point from me! After activating the GC at the border, the SSN was received via mail in less than two weeks, followed by the permanent Green Card in the mail yesterday, a little under one month after crossing at POE. -

I was also of the mindset from multiple conversations that you should activate your visa as soon as you can. You just never know with the current climate. I am still finalizing move dates, employment, etc., but drove to the U.S. yesterday for a few hours just so I could get the Green Card started. -

Following up: Montreal consulate issued my immigrant visa on the business day after the interview. It was shipped and delivered via Purolator the next day. Super speedy. I crossed the POE at Rainbow Bridge today. Aside from waiting to see a secondary officer (about an hour as they only had 3 on duty), the processing took 10 minutes max. No questions. He opened my packet, updated his records, stamped my passport, and said "Welcome home." Thanks to everyone for being such a wealth of information on this forum. I wish everyone the best of luck on their visa journey. -

Adding my experience for a data point. The interview was on Jan. 17, 2025, in Montreal. The first agent took my civil documents and verified everything. Remember to bring photocopies with you in addition to the originals - I didn't realize until a couple of days ago and rushed to get copies done. The second agent took my fingerprints shortly after. Easy. The third stop was the interview with a very kind officer who spoke with me for about 10 minutes. They took my oath, then asked me questions about my previous research, verified if I'd travelled to the U.S. before, why I was looking to move now, and promptly said I was approved. I was done in just over 2.5 hours. Most of it was spent waiting. Best of luck, everyone, and thanks for the wealth of information on this forum. I will update once I cross the POE. -

I was ensuring I paid all necessary fees and saw something about a biometrics appointment fee. Is this something we are supposed to do? I don't recall anything about a biometrics appointment. -

My EB1-A interview is next week in Montreal and I'm getting a folder of printed documents. Aside from the required civil documents listed on their website, what else would be advantageous to bring? An updated resume? University degrees/transcripts? Copies of the reference letters? Do I need additional evidence or is that not necessary considering I'm past the petition stage? I don't have a job offer yet as I'm EB-1, so I want to provide anything that can help without a hard offer in hand. -

May I ask how your name was displayed after "Dear"? Maybe it just goes to the primary applicant only... -

Did anyone else get this email from an email address? Interview is in January. I was wondering- was your name also listed as Last name then First name in the email with a space before the comma? The name is formatted funnily and wondering if it's spam... or if it's that way for everyone. It came from a funny iContact email address: donotreply+visa-info.com@icontactmail3.com Thanks, everyone! This is an interesting one. For my interview, it states I should bring an original divorce document. My original document is a digitally signed PDF from Ontario courts. Do you think a printout will suffice as the original? It doesn't have an ink signature, just the Adobe "digitally signed" stamp and the name of the court clerk. Or do I need to apply for a hard copy with an ink signature? -

I think this has been asked before in different ways, but wanted to know your thoughts. My interview is on Jan. 17. If I have a cruise planned out of Miami at the beginning of February, should I expect to have my passport back so long as everything goes as planned? Is it ok to cross the border with the visa to activate the GC while flying down to Miami to go on a cruise? I'm theoretically entering the country to leave in a couple of days on a cruise ship, to reenter the country at a cruise port a week later. I think they use facial recognition there. Can I enter without activating the GC, or do I need to activate it right away? Wondering your thoughts based on previous experience. -

I wonder why you got it and I didn't. I wonder if I should ask if I need to fill it out. Does it explicitly say it's the DS-5535? -

On the Montreal registration website, is it: I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC) or the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site. OR I have received a letter/email from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment. They both sound the same to me.
