When did you enter the US?  Did you pay the GC fee?

Typically the SSN shows up about 3-4 weeks after entry if the box was checked on the DS-260.  If it doesn't show up, make an appointment with the SSA.

The greencard can be fast or it can be slow.  Depends which center is printing it, it seems.

I entered and paid the fee on April 20th. I did checked the box on my application. I was told I can’t apply for a Ssn without rhe GC

  2. HI everyone, We finally crossed the Peace Bridge on March 18 and wow! it took less time than when I had my tourist visa LOL

They asked me for my new address and away we went from Buffalo to Chandler, Arizona. I feel amazing, I feel free and happy now that I regained my freedom.

It  was a hell of a roadtrip with a Penske truck hauling a jeep with 12 miles /gallon on the most expensive price of gas in history.

Has ANYONE THAT RECENTLY LEFT CANADA RECEIVED THEIR SSN????? I really need it  to file our taxes MARRIED-JOINT and I don't want to file for an extension.

Yes, I checked the box in the application so it should come in the mail.

Goodness you don't know how easy it was to get my drivers license here!!!! it took like 5 minutes and the mothertrucking price lol $10, I almost cried . She asked for my Ontario DL  and I told her I asked for a refund, DMV lady couldn't believe in Ontario the total amount I paid for a G was $159 and that they failed me for not putting a hand brake in non-mountainous territory, long story short I ended up with a G2 but I gave up and asked for a refund since G tests were months away at that point.  Luckily I  got almost all of it $$$ back.

    HAS ANYONE RECEIVED THEIR GC???

  3.

I realized I didn't updated this topic  for the excel sheet @Hawk Riders

My interview was January 12 > refused due to missing medical from Dec 30th 2021.

Medical was sent on January 30, showed refused under AP during the whole time and  my tracking number and passport was sent on February 10th 2022.

    Passport arrived February 12!.

    On another topic...

Im waiting for my husband to come back from work in Alaska. I was wondering if I should take a walk to rainbow bridge since I live so close and activate my IR1 while I wait for him since SSN and GC are taking some time....?

During Covid I've been dropping off my husband at the booth half way through the bridge and being escorted back to the Canadian side by the Americans without any problems. I just wonder what should I bring besides my passport and my parka 😂 ?

Yes the two youngest ones are his. Only the oldest one is not.

Yes two of the 3 are his children as well.

I will definitely try it as long as i have money..

    Milda,

I’m sorry this happened to you.

    Be brave.

    Move to the US.
As per the affidavit of support HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU AND YOUR 3 CHILDREN, his or not doesn’t matter he signed. You have the right to arrive at the address you gave in your interview, arrive where he lives, really. Arrive there, he can’t kick you out. When you fly, put your family’s address for the Green cRd to arrive there. NOT at your husbands address.  Fly with your kids to where your husband lives. If he isn’t home, you wait.  But do tell your family you might need to crash there, and to give you a week to find a job, here it’s easy as hell. apply for WIC. Its a card for food. Women Infant Children. Any woman with children, pretty much any household that makes less than 70-90k qualifies for it. As soon as you arrive, if you don’t have an address, open a PO Box at the Post Office, GET an ID or a driver’s license. And get anything with your name on it, and the address that will be staying at. Phone bill, open a debit card. He might not file for divorce once you step foot in the US, if he hasn’t… YOU need to file for it. Who files first has the upper hand. And he will have to show up in court in the State that YOU DECIDE to live with your children. IF he files first, YOU will have to travel to where he lives and show up in court.  Let’s suppose he still wants to proceed with the divorce with you in the US, thats ok. You will receive alimony and child support. You have a good case, he didn’t have the best intentions by wanting

to leave you stranded wherever you are. Once you land in the US, he is f..ucked. He signed an affidavit of support, in which he is responsible for your financial stability and your children, ALL of them.

Thats why he wants to divorce before you arrive. Although its dumb because you already had your interview.

back to the IR1, you wont have to worry about it for 10 years, as your green card will be for that long. From the day you fly, 3 years later you can apply for Citizenship and they will see your situation. Pay your taxes and be a good citizen.
If you need advice,  send me a private message. Im not divorced, but my husband got fuc..ed by his ex wife by filing for divorce first. So I know.

  5. I checked my visa status today as my medical was sent last Friday. It still says refused, although it was supposedly updated on January 27? I really can’t tell a difference between this message and the one right after my interview on January 12…. Are they automated? Did someone took a screenshot of the first one? Looks the same to me
I just noticed my  MTL case number was added a 01 at the end for some reason.

I am about to cross the border for the first time since getting my visa on Feb 12. I am moving permanently that day.

Has anyone taken food across the border. I am basically wrapping up my life here and leaving. I live alone and have no family in Canada to give my leftover food too. The canned and unopened food, I’ll be donating, but I will still have a bunch of opened leftovers such as flour, rice, oil, pasta, lentils, baking products etc. They don’t cost much, but feels bad to throw out  good food, so was thinking of taking them.

Has anyone done this and did it cause any issues with CBP?

    I’m so happy for you!
My husband crosses the border every 3 weeks, to go to work and he has asked more questions than I can remember.  Regarding food, you can take ALL your pantry( flour, cans, oil, pasta) really. BUT NO CITRUS! Seriously, to be safe I wouldn’t carry any fruit or vegetables at all,  we picked our own cherries last summer, and I gave him a container with some for his flight, he had to surrender the poor cherries entering the US. You can even bring plants, although you are supposed to clean the soil of them and put them in water…
groceries  don’t cost much but you will be surprised how much you spend to fill up your fridge again, along with your cans and non perishable items. Think about it. For example I have a lot of spicy salsas on my fridge door,  I will be putting them in a cooler, each one could be $5-7? X 20 $100-$120…? I don’t need to spend money on that.
PS  If you like Robertson’s Mincemeat 🤣 I would consider taking a few jars, it’s not really a thing in some States. Amazon has them for $25 shipping to the US. Oh yeah and a Costco box of Coffee Crisp wont hurt me either.

Ya! I made the mistake of assuming that once my Medical report was sent someone at the Consulate would take a look at it, which is not always the case. I think they looked over it after I had sent an inquiry about whether they received it (a month later) when I realised I hadn't had any updates and found it odd...

Wow! It’s definitely odd. I will

    enquire then.

Should I send the email to:

    Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov ?

I would send the consulate an email to let them know that your medicals have been uploaded onto the CEAC database and to send you confirmation of receipt of your medical results. That way, they're aware it's there and someone has looked over it at least once to be sure.

Thank you, I’ll do that then. Hopefully I’ll get a reply in the coming weeks. I’ll keep you guys posted

Even the approval letter doesn't matter much.  There have been many reports here on VJ of visa applicants getting verbal approval and approval letters after their interview, yet were put on extended administrative processing.  The true indication of visa approval is "Issued" status on CEAC.

You are right although getting the other one too definitely makes you feel better😂

Regardless of what the interviewing officer says at the interview, a visa is not actually approved until the case status on CEAC says "Issued".  And no, it is not possible for a visa to be approved until the consulate is sure that the applicant has cleared the medical exam, according to Department of State policy.

I thought the same thing. I just don’t understand why she received an approval letter too

Don't worry, I wouldn't hold my breath on what they say or what the case update shows anymore. Some have been approved at their interviews and had to wait weeks before anything was officially issued, others never received tracking until it suddenly was ready for pick up, the list goes on. I'm really saddened there's no real sense of order on how to look at this entire process.

I'm now settled in to our new place however now I am waiting for my SSN card/Green card. On their website it mentioned that I should be able to do my driver's permit test/open bank account with my LPR Visa documents, unfortunately that is not the case. As thrilled as I am to finally be here; I am still waiting yet again for more documentation to arrive. The border officer mentioned they were backlogged with the issuance of greencards, but at least I'll get it within a year since that's when my US Visa expires! YAY?!?

So exciting for you!!!! 🌸  Im not sure because each State its different but you should be able to get a Driver’s license, sometimes it helps to try again another time, I would even try a different DMV, like the one in the middle of the city center rather than a small town. I wasn’t able to open a bank account in Phoenix,AZ.  Although I did opened one in Pittsburgh and North Carolina. It was a joint bank account, and I brought my marriage certificate with me,  my  passport and visa to show that I was legally there (tourist). For Driver’s license I was able to open one in Maryland and New York and I believe D.C was one of my options at the time.

Lastly, It wouldn’t hurt to consider starting your citizenship paperwork as soon as you get your green card, by the time they look at the application you might be eligible.

I believe its after 3 years of marriage or maybe its residency?…not sure but just a thought.

  12. Im really confused now! Someone just posted in the Canadian Facebook “group” (if you can call it that… more like a dictatorship…) that their medical was late as well, but the officer APPROVED the visa? 😂 I mean good for them, but what the actual fruck? What if that person doesn’t pass the medical ? And their visa shows approved😂  Nothing makes sense anymore

  13. So I received the 221g and the interview and I'm waiting. But is there anyone here that already received their SSN? I have a question;

When my passport arrives, we will drive our Uhaul from Niagara to Phoenix, AZ.  We will close our PO Box in Pittsburgh on the way down.

    Now...

1:- How can I change the US address( the PO Box) that I gave them in the interview in Montreal? Yes, I checked the box in the application for automatic SSN.  I might sound paranoid but the devil is in the details and I don't want a PA SSN ( as some might know, the first 3 digits are the State).

2.- Is the SSN going to be from the State/ address that you gave them at the interview?

It's important for me, I need to change the address #1 because obviously  I won't be going back to that PO Box, and #2  for " residency " purposes it will help me solidify an in-state tuition for spring 2023 along with my bank account address, and car insurance that I already switched .

I ask here because I haven't found anything online as to which SSN you get assigned. Whether its related to the origin of the activation of the IR1, at the airport you "land" //bordercrossing or  if its related to the address it gets mailed to.

Hi there! I did receive my visa. My medical was delayed but was received by the consulate a few days after my interview. It took them over 7 weeks to finally issue my visa (even though there had been "case updates" on one or two occasions) and that was only because I had contacted our State representative. I think if you're waiting over 4-6 weeks it wouldn't hurt to contact your State Rep/Senator etc. to inquire on your behalf. I waited quite a while before contacting State Reps to ensure I had a good argument, but some people have had successful results contacting them after 4 weeks.

Three days after contacting my State Rep, I was issued my Visa. She even called a few days later asking whether we made it through alright (across the border). She was spectacular! I would advise writing a formal letter. I know it's tough times as we're all coming from an exhausted and frustrated place waiting around to be with loved ones/or begin new lives but I would be cautious NOT to sound like a whino (haha). I had to edit/re-edit my letter several times before I was ready to submit my inquiry so as to compel them to help. Reading from other posts made me believe we only had one shot, otherwise you get shut down with generic responses and then stuck in the back of the line waiting for who knows how long. It truly sucks.

As for medical results, you can contact the medical office and ask how long it'll be when they send it over. They'll likely send an email of the Medical report to you at the same time as when they send it to the Consulate. Best of luck!

wow thanks! and congrats on finally receiving it!  I don't think we have a State representative. I should be getting the email on Monday. 7 weeks... I am dying to sign a lease and this is driving me crazy

No further updates on my end (except for the Dec 15 case update). They were open Dec 29-30 and will resume again Jan 4. Most of us waiting have had their case updated just before the holidays so I suppose they're trying to sort out the backlogs. Hopefully good news in the next couple weeks. Keep us posted.

    Hi 👋

reading your posts here, have you received an update yet? Please tell me you have visa🤣😢

My medical was Dec 30th and still no results from Public Health.Obviously I was handed a 221g.  I would love to be out of here by March….

I also noticed you haven’t fill out your timeline on your profile. That’s just for statistics and gives everyone an idea of what to expect.

Just had my interview. It was at 7:45am, I got there at 7:30 and waited in the line outside till about 7:50-7:55. Overall, I was there for 2.5 hours.

Once upstairs, I was called to the first window where they asked for my passport, marriage certificate, police certificate and birth certificate. The lady confirmed some general information for both me and my husband (name, date of birth, Canadian/US address and phone #s). She then asked about my name change since I applied with my maiden name at the NVC stage (using my old passport), but had gotten a new one in my married name in the meantime, so I showed her both passports. She asked if I had any documents to prove the legal name change, I told her I didn't have any document like that since I didn't go to a court to get the name changed, instead just assumed my husband's last name. I went to Service Ontario to get the name changed on my driver's license and health card initially, which were then used for the name change on my passport. (If you have a similar situation to mine, I would recommend taking any documents you get from Service Ontario). I don't know if she was satisfied with my answer but didn't press on about it any further. She also asked me about my mom's last name, I told her both my mom's maiden and married last name, and she that began using her married name by the time I was born. She asked for any documents that mentioned her last name because it was not written on my birth certificate (Indian BC). Thankfully, I had my "school leaving record" from my elementary school in India which had both my parent's full names. After that, she asked for a copy of my husband's passport/birth certificate and the Form 1040 and W2 for 2020. At the end, she told me they haven't received the medical reports yet so it's very likely I won't get approved until they get it. Gave me a pamphlet for domestic abuse and told me to wait until I get called to the second window.

At the second window, the lady asked me about my husband (I told her his name and date of birth), how we met, how long I was in the states for during my studies, what I studied, what field I want to go into, which states I had in mind once I got accepted in my field (I was in med school so these were specific questions based around my education/career). She then proceeded to ask when I came to Canada, how old I was, what my husband does, any children, previous divorces, some more straightforward yes/no questions. Then came to my medical, and basically said the same thing as the first lady. She gave me the 221(g) form and told me everything else was pretty straightforward but didn't mention if I was going to be approved or not, depends on my medical reports. They kept my documents and passport and was told after the medical, it'll take around 2-3 weeks to process everything.

Pretty bummed out, since I was not expecting this long of a turnaround time for medical results. So I came back and called Dr. Zakzman's office to see if there are any updates and apparently this week, they were receiving the results from the tests that were done during the last week of December. Anyone else that was/is sitting in "refused" status due to a pending medical, please keep us updated.

Hi! Im glad she at least told you how long they will take after getting the Medical 😊

Mine was Dec 30th, I emailed them and they still haven’t gotten  my results from Public Health Ontario. Still no news from the Doc today after 20 days .

    Moving in March I guess😂

Help!!! I have my medical in Montreal tomorrow morning and my flight is cancelled…. So I’m going to miss my flight to montreal.

what are the chances of me getting a medical appointment in Toronto this week?

My interview is on January 24th :(

Take the train! That’s what I did. I would take the train rather than be stuck on Admin Processing. Because I am.

Thank you so much for this info, it's much appreciated!  We'll avoid Dr. Lyndon for sure.  If anyone else is seeing this with a positive experience in the GTA, please let me know which doctor  you used.  Also, when you went to your interview, did you go alone or did your spouse and kids have to be there?  The letter isn't clear.  At the bottom of the letter it lists me, my son, and my daughter with the word/code "at", and then the interview time is blank.

It’s not the Dr fault. Its the whole Province of Ontario Public Health. They are putting life labs bloodwork on hold, until they clear the mountains of tests they do for every person that comes with a cold  to the clinics. If I knew that this was happening I would have arrived a week earlier to MTL.  There is people that had their appointments in October and haven't heard anything from the Consulate.
