There are some free courses for SAT online. I'd look into that. The preparation is more about learning how to take the exam and tips to take the exam. Even if you know the material, the skills are, for instance, how to answer multiple choice fast or ways of solving a type of exercise quickly.
Thanks for the tip. I have been searching for resources & practice papers to assist him.

With his CAPE and SAT he can enroll in college so yes let him start studying. He can even apply from Jamaica but you'll need to make sure they don't have him as an international student bc tuition would be much higher and he might qualify for other aid as a permanent resident. SATs are only done at specific times in Ja so make sure you start looking at registering early.
Thanks a million for your valuable recommendations. 😎

If he's going to be 18 is he doing 6th form? Or will he only have CXCs. He can start taking SAT classes in Jamaica if that's the route he'll want to go. Community college is certainly a good starting point or option depending on what he wants to do. If he has subjects we don't need GED. Also depending on timing he can take SATs in Jamaica as well so it really depends.
His school should have a guidance counselor. Ask him to talk to him/her. They normally have good information about these things as a lot of Jamaican students attend college after finishing high school in Ja.
Thanks a lot. He is currently doing 6th form. He is doing very well in Information Technology/Computer Science and would like to continue with that. I'm currently checking out getting the SATs done from here, because I don't want to stall his progress.

If he hasn't graduated from high school when he emigrate from Jamaica, then he could finish high school in the US.
Alternatively, he can sign up to attend community college once he's 18. No GED. No SAT required. Based on his parent's US residency, he could even qualify for in-state tuition and financial aid.
I wouldn't start out with getting a GED, taking the SAT, or trying to attend a 4 years college. Start off with community college. It will be cheaper and better for him to be able to start college and live at home in a new country.Ok, thanks. Will check this out.

While this process is exciting, there is a lot of unknown causing us a bit of anxiety. Using internet searches trying to figure out school for our kid, however I'm more confused than before I started searching . I'm estimating that he will be 18 yrs old by the time he migrates to Miami from Jamaica, that would be time for college right? Any suggestions on what can be done from Jamaica to prepare for college? He is currently in high school in Jamaica, will he have to do GED as well as SAT? If yes, what should we do? I just got another grey hair just from typing this😅

Ok, well the RFE indicates that they are actively reviewing your case. Hopefully you can respond soon and get your approval. Since I can't tell from your timeline, do you mind sharing which service center and NOA1 date for your IR5?

Any case, or your case?
They've had a bunch of approvals in October and November.
I'm guessing since OP is in the F-2A category they might just be tracking approvals from that. Here on VJ the last updated approval for Texas for F-2A was Oct. 29. 2020.

I am praying that good news will start pouring from our VJ Jamaica family thread as soon as today/next week. We are indeed a family as we share each others joy and sorrow. We are resilient people and this too shall pass. We have gained a lot of exposure and experience from this journey that we can help others at the end. Once there is life, there is hope and every day above ground is a good day. Stay blessed my family, nothing and no one can hold us back!!

- What qualifies as a "means-tested public benefit" that the sponsor would be responsible for reimbursing?
- Also, how does this impact those who are filing with a joint sponsor?
1. Sometimes, sponsored immigrants apply for and receive means-tested public benefits from federal, state, local or tribal agencies. Means-tested public benefits include Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the State Child Health Insurance Program. See 8 CFR 2131.1.
Sponsored immigrants may be ineligible for certain means-tested public benefits because the agency will consider your resources and assets, and those of your household members, when determining the immigrant’s eligibility for the benefits. This is called “income deeming.”
However, if an immigrant named on your affidavit of support receives a means-tested public benefit while the affidavit is enforceable, you, as the sponsor, will be responsible for reimbursing the agency providing the benefit. If you do not reimburse the agency, the agency can obtain a court order for repayment.

I am so sorry to see these cancellations. I hope that all those directly affected will keep the faith. Let us pray together as a Visajourney family that the spike in Jamaica will cease soon and normalization will be restored. Let us do all that we can to keep ourselves and loved ones safe and not contribute to the current Covid-19 cases. I know it must be disheartening to be so close but so far away, please keep the faith as this is temporary and everyone will reunite with their loved ones soon.

Love from🇰🇪 Kenya
This thread is indeed very helpful. Although we are in the IR-5 category and recently submitted the I-130, I'm glued to this thread as if I'm close to interview as well, lol. Loving the great spirit of togetherness that this group gives. Bless up everyone and keep the faith. Big up to Stacey Ann for creating the group.
