So so SO happy!!! Best Christmas present EVER!!! DQ May 15 2020, interview Jan 27 @ 9:30 am!!! The wait is almost over!!!
I haven't read anyone mention lately about crossing the border after receiving their visa and then returning to Canada, hoping to move myself to PA and would take 2 trips. I'm guessing would need to quarantine etc, any other restrictions anyone can think of? Thanks everyone for being an amazing community so far, would have lost hope without all of you ♡

    Hello everyone!

My wife interviewed this morning at the Consulate and was approved! 😊

She was in and out of the Consulate in the span of about 2.5 hours, most of which was just waiting. The process was similar to what others have previously described, with a document check being first followed by an interview. Everyone that my wife spoke with was nice. A couple of points to note:
They asked for our I-864EZ AOS despite us being under the impression of not needing it. Thankfully we brought it anyways. The lady seemed to be very methodical, reading and checking off each page before giving it back.  They asked for my W-2. Afterwards she asked if my wife had any other financial info. My wife mentioned she had my entire 2019 tax return, which the lady took in its entirety by ripping it out of the folder to scan. 😂  My wife was made nervous by the fact that after she was done with the document check and waiting for her interview, others were arriving afterwards and being called up for their document checks and subsequent interviews before her. 😝
My wife and I are both convinced that the gentleman who interviewed her was a newer officer. He was a really nice guy and would frequently consult with a woman standing behind him regarding whether he forgot to ask anything and ask for her opinion. Thankfully she just gave brief glances over before mentioning that everything looked great. A result of the above point seemed to be that he asked my wife more questions than we thought she'd be asked during the interview. I'd say he asked her about 10-15 questions despite our case being a straightforward and relatively simple one.  He ended up keeping our Original police certificate as well as my 2019 tax returns.  Now we just wait 10 business days for her passport.

Question for anyone that has crossed into the US via Toronto Pearson Airport:
Did they pull you into secondary screening after presenting them with the immigration packet? If so, how long for? I'm trying to get an idea of how much earlier we'd need to arrive at the airport to account for a longer transition time through Customs.

    Consulate Process - Montreal IR1

My appointment was scheduled for 8:45am. I arrived at 8:41am and was let in by the security guard. He asked me a series of Covid related questions and then asked me to wait until the person ahead of me was through security before moving through security. It was standard airport security, I didn’t use the lockers. I was directed to take the elevator to the 1st floor. Once I arrived I went immediately to window 5 to provide my passport and then told to sit and wait until my name was called.

There was 12 people in chairs when I first got there. At one point there were 18 of us and no longer any open seats (socially distancing considerations in mind). I think a lot of people had to wait well beyond their interview time to be let in by security downstairs because of that.  It also seemed like most people spent considerably more time being interview. The woman who arrived just ahead of me must have been at the window for 20 minutes when it was her turn to interview. They seemed to be really, really behind schedule. I think at least 7 of 12 windows were operational as people were called to windows 1-7.

I had a lot of time to wait because I wasn’t called up to provide my documents until 9:45. I was called to window 6, asked to provide my original birth certificate (I provided the Ontario long form), original marriage certificate (I provided Ontario short form) and police certificates. My police certificate was new (August 2020), it said Privacy Act Other. I also had a foreign police certificate and translation.  Next they asked if any of our financial information had changed. My husband got a new job, so I provided a new I-864. He asked for the 2019 Tax Return to accompany it. I had the full return with all schedules (over 50 pages) but he only wanted the 1040. He did not want any income slips (1099 series and W2s).  Any documents that were new the officer put a sticky note that said *scan* on them. I was then asked for one photo (2inch x 2inch) he scanned it and then gave it back to me. Next was finger printing on the electronic reader. I was then told to have a seat and wait to be called up. This all took about 10 minutes. 5 minutes later I was called up to the same window again, and he explained he forgot to give me the domestic violence pamphlet. I sat back down and read it.

I then waited until 1030am to be called to my interview window. It was window #2 and the woman was extremely nice. I used the hook to the left on the window to hang my coat.  She asked if I was from Texas because of the necklace I was wearing. I explained that my husband was. She then asked me to swear my oath and took one set of finger prints as my oath. I was asked:
when did you met your husband?  Did you start dating right away? When did you start dating?  What year did you get married?  When was the last time you were able to see him? (She was surprised he could come to Canada - I noted the changes to rules to allow it)  What does your husband do for work?  Have you ever committed a crime anywhere?  Have you ever stayed in the US longer than you were allowed?  Conversationally she asked about my foreign police certificate and why I had it (I lived there 8 months - previous NVC guidance indicated you’d need it). She thanked me for providing it.  Did I have a nexus card? ( I didn’t have to provide it she simply said “thought so” after I answered Yes so I assume they had some extra info about me because of that)
At some point she returned my original birth certificate and marriage certificate - don’t remember when.

She then told me I was her easy case of the day and she would be able to approve my visa, and I exhaled and said that I’d be very happy to be that for her. She laughed.  I got my white Welcome to the US letter and a document outlining how to check the status of my visa.  She said to expect 2-3 weeks for delivery.  She asked if I had any questions and then I went on my way. It took all of 5 minutes with her, I think she had already told me I was approved by minute 3.   I was outside the consulate by 1038.

So thankful for that step to be over.  I’ll let you all know when I receive my passport. Thanks to everyone for the support during this long wait -  DQ Jan 2020, PD Nov 2018.

Approved! My son and I are on the train heading home now.

When the interview notice came through my son's interview was actually listed as 15 minutes after mine. I explained to the security guard he is a minor (at least for a couple more weeks 🤪) so he let him in with me and instructed me to tell them upstairs why he was early.

I only gave them the documents they specifically asked for. The lady took my originals first and then my son's. She only wanted one photo each which she scanned and gave back to us (I gave her the stamped ones but she did not appear to check for this). As we had to update our police certificates I only gave her the new ones. (Mine looked like the sample on our spreadsheet and was accepted).

Likewise, when she asked about the I-864 since I brought a new one she only wanted that one. I did not have a 2019 transcript but the copy of the 1040 and W-2s was accepted with no issues. I did notice the main thing they were looking for was the new I-864 was actually signed by the petitioner. (Also, for anyone who is required to file form 8938 they DO want a copy of this if you are providing tax return copies).

We waited about 40 minutes to get called back up for the actual interview. The interviewer was very pleasant and nice. I think I got asked every question others reported combined and then some lol (who is your petitioner, when did you meet, where do each of you live, what does he do, have you been married before,  when did you get divorced, do you have any children together, any other kids for each of you, have you been outside of the US, have you been to the US, longest time in the US, any trouble with the law or immigration, etc).

Since my son is 17 we didn't know what to expect as I couldn't find reviews talking about older children interviews. They did ask him some direct questions as well (is he in school or finished, what does he plan to do, is he excited to move to US, has he had any trouble with the law or immigration and if he was married now or ever had been married. She explained they ask this because it impacts the type of visa he would be eligible for. )

At the end she said she was going to approve us. I got the welcome to the US paper. We were in there about an hour and 40 minutes total. When we got back to the hotel I checked our status on CEAC and it has already changed to ISSUED pending further processing.

Sorry for the lengthy post; I found other reviews helpful in preparing for today and hope this is of benefit to others.

To everyone else still waiting hang in there. This is a horrible process that tests your nerves, patience and perseverance. Your time will come (even if it feels like it won't) . For those with their interviews in the next few weeks best of luck!

    Medical review - Dr.Zatzman

(CR1/IR1) My appointment was at 9AM. I entered the building at 8:55 to locate Zatzman’s office.  Walk in the main doors, walk straight until you reach the elevators on your right. There is a board beside the elevator with suite numbers and doctors name.  Zatzman in Suite 208, on the second floor.

I was the first patient of the day, they were just unlocking the doors as I walked over. The reception staff will ask for your: passport, drivers license and MTL case number/interview letter.  They also needed my city of birth. They then took my photo, I paid the medical exam fee of $260 via credit or debit card.  I signed a paper authorizing them to use e-medical to collect my results and send them to the consulate. I was given a receipt for the payment and my e-medical information sheet which explained how my results would be collected and sent to the consulate.  This process took about 5 minutes.

I sat and waited for Dr. Zatzman to call me, he did so just 1-2 minutes after I sat down. He brought me to the exam room, and started by handing me the paperwork for my labs and X-ray and said he’d explain where to get those done after. He then asked me a series of questions about my medical history, measured my height and weight, took my blood pressure and listened to my cheats.  The questions about medical history were very standard, and I could see on his screen what he was required to note down.  Next he asked for my vaccination records, I had a print out from my family doctor so it was easy for him to locate the dates. I also had my o strip “yellow immunization book” and he said that would have been acceptable too.  Next, he pulled up a map of the housing and explained how to get to the lab and X-ray area and he also confirmed that my email was correct and indicated they’d email me once the package had been sent via e-medical to the consulate.

Throughout the exam he was very nice and very talkative. He really made you feel at ease, we even googled something to check a hockey stat that come up during our conversation. Very, very nice. Overall I think I was with him 10 minutes.

Next, per the advice of other VJ members, I went downstairs to labs to put my name in line. Waiting to be registered took maybe 20 minutes. They took my requisition and health card (though it seemed like they might not have needed that) and asked how I’d pay (visa) and for my phone number. I was told the wait would be 45 minutes to an hour.  Since there was a urine test, I asked if I could have the sample bottle right away since I really needed to pee! She gave me one, and told me to ensure that when I came back I requested a label for it so it wouldn’t get lost. I figured this would save me some time later on.

After checking in for labs, I went to X-Ray. You walk up to a wall mounted thermometer to check your temperature before you can talk to the staff at reception.  They needed my requisition form passport, and I paid the $70 fee by visa.  They completed my paperwork and asked me to have a seat, I wait maybe 2 minutes and then was called in for.  I was sent to a dressing room and was told to take my shirt and bra off (if I had of had a necklace I would have needed to take that off too) and put a gown on.  I was then taken to the x-ray, which took all of 30 seconds and I was sent back to change and that was that!  I was out of X-ray just before 10am.

I then went to the bathroom and collected my urine sample. Then I went to my car to wait to be called for my labs.  I got called for my labs at 10:26am, went back in and was seated inside the waiting room. I was then called for bloodwork at 10:55. I paid the fee of $30.34 via visa and then was seated in a cubicle. They asked me to confirm my key information, and then took one vile of blood and returned my health card. They confirmed I did not need my health card because it was immigration related. I gave them my urine sample and they added a label on it. I was in my car by 11:02.

All in all, about two hours.
