Ok guys, the nyx hotel texted me yesterday, and they will “100% open their premises including pool, access to the ocean and so on on the 8th of June”. Therefore I just changed my booking, and I’m planning to fly out on the 3rd and stay in Mexico City for a few days, then fly to Cancun. Flights from Cancun to the US are pretty affordable - 177$! I would like to fly with American Airlines, and I would enter the US in Atlanta. While I’ve entered the IS in atl before, I am really anxious, and hope this is going to work 😫 otherwise I will spend an additional 2k€ for a trip. But it seems to me, as if I could at least go see the ocean for a few days, and I believe that is going to be really good for me, after the last 12 months of anxiety and lockdown (applied for the visa in June last year). If anyone wants to meet up in a socially distanced manner, I would love to meet in either Mexico City or Cancun! Fingers crossed they won’t cancel on me again !!!

No. Transit in Canada must be less than 48 hours and you must be connecting between 2 international flights at a Canadian airport.
But if you spend a day or two there, then that time can be counted as part of the 14 days preceding US entry.

Brazil travel ban has been in the talks since April 1, at least in the media. It’s not really a surprise.

Peru, and Russia have all received some news media attention as of lately regarding the large number of infections there. No mention of a ban. Brazil's situation was clearly on the radar. I will take my chances with Mexico unless there is official news to take some other course of action.

I have been following the news and saw that for Brazil as well! I agree that the number of COVID-19 deaths is important and relevant data, although it appears in the wording of the Proclamations that they seem to take the number of confirmed cases more into consideration:
"As of May 23, 2020, the World Health Organization reported that the Federative Republic of Brazil had 310,087 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is the third highest number of confirmed cases in the world." https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-novel-coronavirus/
"The Schengen Area currently has the largest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases outside of the People’s Republic of China. As of March 11, 2020, the number of cases in the 26 Schengen Area countries is 17,442, with 711 deaths, and shows high continuous growth in infection rates." https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-2019-novel-coronavirus/
As of now, Mexico has "only" 68,620 confirmed cases vs. 374,898 in Brazil (as per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries). Definitely aware of the risks arising out of the growing numbers and thus, the high stakes e.g. ending up stuck in Mexico though.

Would they count 14 full days in Mexico or 14 days including the day of entry?
edit: found my own answer: 14-day period preceding entry, meaning excluding day of entry

One has never had to enter had to enter from the country from where the visa is issued. All countries do not have US consulates. Cuba doesn't, a few African nations don't. One does not need to get the visa from where you are a national. You just need residency, that is what we did. Get a connecting flight coming in and you're not entering from where the visa is issued.
Entering from another country after waiting 14 days does not mean that you don't have COVID19. It means you probably didn't have it when you entered that country. You can always be exposed to it on day 13, enter the US later and be asymptomatic.
Before the visa expires you can travel to almost any other country, except probably north Korea , and it won't cause an issue come AOS time. My wife got asked at her visa interview, global entry interview and when entering other countries "I see you have been to Nepal"
The best way to have a problem at AOS is not to get married in time or not have sufficient finances.

That 1-800 USCIS line is called the misinformation line for a reason. Some examples of the many instances of misinformation from that line:

Same here! Flying June 8 (excluded that day) and counted 14 full days starting June 9 to then fly out on June 23.

We will fly in June 4th, Thursday. I do not count that day. I counted 14 full days starting Friday, June 5th. My 14 days would end Thursday, June 18th. We fly out Friday, June 19th. That is how I counted my days.

Excluding if you’ve been in a Schengen country on Wednesday, including if you have not. That Wednesday cannot be any other banned country.

Yup. I excluded day of entry and day of departure just in case. I spent 14 whole days in México excluding those

There are a few people who have taken their AirBnBs off the market but around where I am there is a good selection available despite being banned.

Yeah keep contacting around. Last I saw many Hilton’s and Marriotts have availabilities for starting 6/1 again and many other Airbnb’s.

I called the governor's admin office last week and they told me that it was not decided yet if June 1st will be open for tourism, despite the push by the tourism businesses in the area. They said an official announcement was going to be made later. So they now made it June 8. That though help make us decide to go to Mexico City since we wanted to leave on June 4 and not waste another day.

Agreed. Mexico will end lockdown on 6/1. All hotels and Airbnb’s will be available starting 6/1. Just be honest with immigration at arrival.
