Does the name in your passport match the name on GC?

What was the basis for changing the name? Was it marriage? If so, you should carry marriage certificate if names don't match.

No my name in my Passport doesnt match the Greencard anymore. However I do have an expired Passport with the Old name in it, if that would help, i will carry it with me.

All my Official ID’S and Documents are already changed just not yet the Greencard.

    The Basis was Marriage.

  2. Hi there,

I filed for I 90 in September ‘23 to get a new card because I have officially changed my last Name now.

Anyway, I want to go back to Germany for a few Weeks next Year and the Online status for the GC of receiving an answer is now at 15 months instead of 3.

I still have my 10 yr GC with my Maiden Name which i got a year ago, so I wanted to see if that would impact my travel overseas next year due to still having my maiden name on the green card?

All my other legal documents are changed to my new name now, so do I need to carry anything specifically with me as proof for the greencard?

I will travel with GERMAN passport, US ID, Bank Card for sure.

    Thank youu!

It has only been a few days, you need to give it more time. At least a couple of weeks from the date they received it.

Yes the G-1145 goes in the front of the package, but sometimes that doesn't even help. It's never a guarantee that it will work with the form, and it's not important either way. If you don't receive email/text, then within 30 days (give or take) you will at least have received either the acceptance hardcopy in the mail or the package has been returned to you. You never receive an email/text if your package gets rejected or for any other part of the process, it's only for the initial acceptance.

had  to dramatize it a little bit, i got it this afternoon, lol! thanks tho

  4. just found this specific thread for it.

We sent our package off last thursday or so snd was received this last monday. I included the notification paper form but havent gotten any response yet.

It got shipped to the phoenix p.o box and delivered, just wondering if i shouldve put all the extra paper they asked for on top of the ToC or underneath bc thats what i did😅🤣 so very confused that i havent gotten any response yet.

Form i-551 is your green card. Send a copy back and front. Yes, you need to send it. You also need to send a copy of your marriage certificate. Check my opening post and see if it helps you with ideas.

I am taking advantage of your great post in this thread, lol.

Would've been lost on how to write the table of content!!!

But my first package for the green card already includes the marriage certificate just wanted to see if i do have to send another one or if that one is already enough 😝

    Also question to anyone really:

We do not have a joint account anymore, bc my husband made it his own. Now i know it would be better for us to have shared finances, but i included statements of our shared transactions between our accounts before all of our statements that we have on our separated accounts.

Now you do have financial commingling as one of your exhibits, but since we dont share one how would you best describe this then?
Im prepping the package all by myself while husband is at work and as non native english speaker, its sometimes hard to find good words that describe the situation best!

Always send copies unless they ask for originals!

Sounds good! Just done that, do you happen to know if they would want all of our bank statements since i arrived in the states or just lets say a quarterly statement?
We dont have a joint account anymore bc my husband claimed it as his own now but i have transactions between the two of us as well and only some of my statements right now confirming our addresses we've lived at.

    Thank you!

  7. Hi, this is a few months old but for those who have sent their applications already could answer me this.

Im filing and organizing our files and evidence right now for removing  of conditional status, im also very overwhelmed by the OG post!!! lol Very organized table of content and such and im currently keeping this thread open to orientate myself!

So we had some trips in the past and am thinking if i should clip the original tickets to the itinerary or have to make copies of them?

have to move fast bc our first filing date was 06/27 and i dont wanna get it out too late!

    Thanks :)

  8. i just immigrated to the US yesterday and i completely lost focus on what to do next.

my things what im gonna do now are:

    - write resume, drop it off at company

    - get a US phone number

    - update address at dmv (cause i got my drivers licence as an aupair already)

Uscis officer told me my Green card could take up to a year to arrive and since i also have my ssn obtained as an aupair this would be likely the same.

Can you edit my list with maybe some links so i can look up what to do as well?

    thank you lots

So today I got same email from NVC stating that appointment has been cancelled which never took place and NVC says they  will reschedule the interview I am confused why they send me this can you please help me

    Thanks

    yes sure.

that basically is a glitch in their system. it sends you the applicant and petitioner an email while they will send your petition for the Visa to the embassy.

so i hope u'll hear from them soon if you havent already! good luck for further processing

SSN not needed to begin employment but can delay your paycheck. See @JFH's experience with working before receiving the SSN:

If 3 weeks after US entry you haven't received SSN, then contact SSA: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/questions.htm

What if I don't receive my SSN card within 3 weeks of arrival?

Contact us. In the United States, you may call the telephone number listed for the Social Security office in the local telephone directory under "United States Government" or Social Security's toll-free number 1-800-772-1213.

After entry, your CBP-endorsed Immigrant Visa is a I-551 document valid for work and international travel: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/temporary-i-551-stamps-and-mrivs

    Sweet!

i was hoping for a previous asked question as well.

    thank you 🤗

In today's world most applicatiions are done online,  so start now.

Get a good resume together and search the web

even 1st interviews are done by phone so use something like whatsapp or skype ,  etc

i basically have a job lined up for about a year already, thats why i ask. but also for all the others who still are searching or just wanna know or just if this doesnt work out, its always good to know how to start im a foreign country!

Pay the immigrant visa fee prior to entering the US.   A few days after entering you can go to a Social Security Office and see if they have the record in their system.

Your endorsed VISA acts as a green card for a year.  Any decent employer will know that.   You can also travel right away.

You don't need a SSN to work.  You need on in order to be paid.

    Thank you!

    this is very helpful :)

  13. Hi, im about 4 weeks away from moving to the US and some others and me where just talking about when we actually could start looking for jobs.

i know You can apply for and work Jobs with your Visa / GreenCard in your Passport but how is it with your ssn?

do you need it to apply for jobs as well?

Can you just go to their office and apply for one and get it delivered within days or do you have to wait for the ssn to arrive in the mail as you selected at the end of your ds260?

the consular officer said it could take months for my physical green card to arrive, same with SSN?

Please send along some advice 😇

and sorry for my confused english, its late here 🙈

  14. i do have the same question, although i will be living in WA state!

i will email the embassy themself and ask if they need it and what documents to bring, as soon as i get my interview scheduled.

noone knows exactly if they should bring it or not because apparently if you dont they reject you?!?! i heard weird things so far.

just ask and if they say no and fill it out anyway and bring few important documents with it as well

If you check the case status, is it still at NVC or in Transit? You can probably assume that NVC sent the cancellation to clean you out of their queue, all cases are transferred to Frankfurt and they'll contact you directly for scheduling.

we have gotten this email friday late at night about 11 pm here and about 2pm at the east coast.

when i last checked it still says nvc, but its the weekend so i think they will update it on monday if that really had changed.
