The average wage at Costco is $17.00. And yes, they do turn a profit paying those wages.

Everyone deserves a living wage. It doesn't matter if you are a skilled worker. If it is a job that is needed, then it is deserving of a living wage. If we were all highly skilled in some area, surely there would be too many of us for the number of those highly skilled jobs. That is the importance of a diversified economy. Many of the people working labor jobs work a heck of a lot harder than their superiors sitting in their offices twiddling their thumbs. They certainly deserve a living wage for the efforts they put into our economy. It is their sweat and tears making the profits for their companies.

My daughter gets food stamps. She works full time, but her husband is very ill with diabeties and this past year had part of his feet amputated. They have turned him down for disability 3 times and he is unable to work. They have 4 kids. Her oldest daughter is from a previous marriage. The state of AL loads her child support onto her EBT card. She can use the child support portian anywhere and for anything. But can only use the food balance for food. So if you see someone using EBT card for something other than food, it may be coming from the child support balance.

I see you know ladies very well. There's nothing I enjoy more than being objectified and valued only for my decorative value. Expensive education and professional achievements be damned! It's these 34Ds that are my defining characteristic, and alas, at my age they are no longer so pert. I'll be put out to pasture soon. Better schedule my short and practical haircut now, and pick up a pair of mom jeans.

You think we don't know that this is the way the world works? Even when we're the ones wearing the literal and figurative pants.
We know well enough just from this site that existing as a human female is suggestive.

Happiest of reunions! And hoping you have a totally chill, relaxed as possible adjustment time for your family. You guys are going to do great.

Zaynab I read your story and it literally brought tears to my eyes, it broke my heart. I just wanted to stretch out a hand of friendship to you and say how sorry I am that this has been your experience.
A man and a woman should treat each other with nothing but dignity, love and respect. I hope one day your husband either agrees to marriage counseling or you find the strength to leave. We get one life, and its a short one. It should not be wasted on people who do not show love for us or on people who do not make us happy. Stay strong, I hope things improve for you.

No idea, but digging up a 4 yr old thread about Algerian military exemptions to ask in regards to your Portuguese fiancé is as good a place to start as any. Boa sorte!

So, we'll continue to disagree about the word thug.
The statement that every candidate on the GOP side was all of that is just wrong.
You really believe there are 3-5 regular posters here on CEHST who are truly racist? I can see if you said two; but you think it might be up to 5. I just don't see it. There's probably more who are just ignorant and probably just one who's had bad experience.
I agree with you on ignoring the others and focusing on those you can reach.

The US Humane Slaughter Act allows for shechita and zabihah slaughter, because done properly they offer just as humane and painless a death as for stunned animals. Temple Grandin's research has found no cause whatsoever to ban these two forms of slaughter on an animal welfare basis. Neither has Dr Regenstein's at Cornell. Some people don't think it's ok to inflict skull fractures, electrocution, or gassing on animals prior to killing them.
Curiously enough, there's been no non-stunned slaughter done in Denmark in years anyways. A pointless solution looking for a problem. It's unfortunate Denmark's notoriously heinous pig farms can't muster the same response, or whales hunted in the Danish Faroe Islands, or Denmark's status as the largest mink exporter in Europe.

I usually eat take out at home, which is totally sub par, to avoid any potential rambunctiousness from my 5 yr old that other restaurant patrons might not be in the damn mood for. My son was great in restaurants, from baby onward, but my daughter's a wild card, so I adjusted accordingly. thiswasnotrocketscience

My dad did a trick with me. He said I was being really bad at a restaurant. So he told me if I did not behave we would leave. I did not listen. So we left. This was after we ordered, but the food had not arrived. I don't think he paid, either (though he might have secretly). He told me that the look on my face was pure amazement, confusion, sadness. And then next time and every time thereafter I was well-behaved. He was so happy with the results that he did this to my brother too a few years later. I remember this, being older then, and it was really embarrassing.
    I will try this.

How old were you? I don't think my 2 year old would get the significance of me not paying. She'd just be upset we're going home. There is no punishment greater than the threat of going home because at home she has to do scary things like take showers and get totally bored by naps.

My daughter is annoying in restaurants. When we're in a booth, she feels the need to stand up and turn around and stare at the people behind us and point at their bread and say BREAD and point at their beer and say WATER, and then go "yeah? yeah? yeah?" until someone looks at her and nods approval or I grab her knees and sit her down (for the millionth time). Then she does it again.
We've adapted by always going to the same place (an Indian place) where the booths are all against the walls, so she has no one to bother.
