  1. How does one deal with SO's unrealistic expectations?

My husband does not have a degree, yet he thinks he is going to get some top dollar job. I have located several jobs, and each time he refuses to apply. I saw a position at Greyhound cleaning the bus. The pay is $9.48 per hour. What is the problem? I wouldn't pressure him as much if he was in school. Every time I make a suggestion, he says "Lemme do mi own ting." I am about to pull my hair out. He has his EAD and SS card; therefore, there is no excuse. Does any one have any suggestions/insight?

  2. I miss Mo Bay.

Kevin and I met at Doctor's Cave Beach. The Brewery is a party spot for the locals. Friday is the night to go to Pier I. Margaritaville is good on Thursday & Saturday. If you want to keep it low key, then go to Coral Cliffs and listen to some live music (2nd floor). :ot: Kevin got his Georgia driver's license today. It brek 'im hart fi leggo di Yardie license. I was also able to add hubby to my auto policy (only $6 increase for the next 6 months).

  3. We got our interview date, it will be on 4/2/08!!:dance::dance: Of course, USCIS screwed up Elena's address change, and so did NVC when I called them to make sure the address change took. Looks like a late night tonight to call the Consulate and have them update the address and resend the Packet 3/4.

Congratulations on your interview. Since you have a date, you might want to have your SO schedule the medical. See the link for more information-

  4. Thanks everyone. I haven't seen my honey since Sept so the hormones are jumping....lol Has anyone been to Evita's in Ochi? It's an Italian/Jamaican mix restaurant. I plan on taking Ray there for his birthday...

I have never been to Evita's, but I had my wedding dinner @ Spring Garden Cafe. The food is great! The number is 795-3149. The restaurant is about a 5-minute drive from Evita's.

  5. Daniel will be with me during my interview  As far as I know, he will not be allowed to be with me though  Is there any way to let the Consular Officer know for definate that he is outside. I read somewhere that carrying Daniel's passport along with mine is a good way of letting them know that he is with me. Will that :help: ??

Your fiance should be allowed to attend the interview. After all, he is the petitioner. Yes, I would have him bring his passport to show the security guards.

  6. I don't know why all of a sudden I feel so nervous about my husband interview. Maybe because I don't know what they will ask him. I can't even take the time off to be there for his interview. So many different emotions are running thru my head right now.

anyone that has went thru the process is the interview questions hard in Kingston?

    Deniese,

Don't fret! The interview was easy. Please read my review. Since you filed for a CR-1 visa, they probably will not ask for a lot of the documents that K-1 & K-3 filers have to bring. At any rate, give your husband copies of all pertinent information (e.g. financial info, wedding & informal pictures). I have a check list that I made to double check every thing. Let me know if you would like a copy.

In the mean time, be sure to have your husband make an appointment for his medical. There are three Jamaican physicans that the Embassy uses.

Here is the link for more information-

    http://kingston.usembassy.gov/medicalexams.html

Also, be sure that your husband has the blue version of his birth certificate & a police certificate.

You have total support from the Yardie thread! Let us know if you have any additional questions/concerns.

    Take care,

    Kelia (Pronounced Kee-Lee-Ya)

  7. I just received NOA2 email yesterday for K-1 and was just wondering....Can the DS230 be sent in once Kingston embassy receives the case or do you technically have to wait till they get around to sending out packet 3?

Seems like some filers are making appointments to just "drop it off" at the embassy to help speed up getting the interview scheduled and it works. Any thoughts about that? Also, Can the DS230 be sent in by the me as long as it's already filled out and my fiance signed it?

Any insight would be helpful or PM me if you wanna share.

    Tonisha :)

Once the Embassy receives your case, you can submit the DS-230. Please do not wait for the Packet 3 to arrive. Here is a link for the DS-230.

    http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf

This is the last document that is needed to schedule an interview.

  8. Question for all those who filed K-1 for fiance in Jamaica....

How long does it take for Kingston to receive our cases once we're approved? Secondly, can the DS230 Part I be submitted as soon as Kingston receives the case or should you technically wait for your fiance to get Packet 3?

Some are dropping the DS230 off in person and some are just sending it in after they get packet 3 so I'm looking for some insight about the process. Do you need an appointment to "drop off" the DS230 if that's how you're going to submit it?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Tonisha

    Tonisha,

I filed a K-3; therefore, my case had taken a little longer. You should have an interview 2-3 months after the Embassy receives the DS-230. Don't quote me on how long it takes for the NVC to notify Kingston. I think it was a month or less.

For the DS-230, there are two options (1) Make an appointment by e-mail to drop it off. OR (2) Send the form to the Embassy by courier (e.g. Air Pak, DHL, Fed Ex). Therefore, you have a signature to verify receipt of the envelope.

When we went to pick up the Packet 3 in person, we had to make an appointment. I saw people get turned away because your name must be on the security officer's list. There is a clip board that the security checks before you are allowed to enter the building.

In the mean time, get all of your ducks in a row (Non-Impediment, fiance's police certificate & birth certificate, tax returns, pay stubs, bank statements, employment letter). Planning ahead is a great way to occupy your time. Have all of your documents neatly organized. Let us know if you have any more questions.

  9. Shrewdie, I didn't want to go K3 cause i just wanted to stick to focusing on the one visa. Not to sure how much faster it is, but the CR1 visa feels a bit more fluid to me. But thats me. If its free, I guess it doesnt hurt to try. I just can't handle much more paperwork so I said forget it. haha

    Marlita,

In hind sight, I would have gone for the CR-1/IR-1 visa. It takes a little longer, but it is worth it. When your hubby arrives, he doesn't have to worry about going to apply for a social or work permit. Plus, you have two years to relax without filing a thing. I'm just glad to have Kevin home.

  10. **************I GOT A DATE**********

THANK YOU KINGSTON EMBASSY...YOU WONDERFUL EMBASSY YOU!!!:lol::luv:

    Blessed,

    Gill

    Gill,

Thanks for texting me with the good news yesterday. I am so happy for you. Daddy soon come! :energetic:

  11. Hi everyone out there, was just wondering how many pictures to bring to interview? Also do you bring all the letters? Will be interviewing at USEM. The petition has just reached the consulate.

At my husband's interview, we had a binder with tons of evidence (e.g. boarding passes, hotel receipts, pictures, etc). The Embassy just wants to know that you are in a REAL relationship. If you don't have lots of pictures. E-mails, phone bills, letters are also forms of communication. Good luck!

  12. Got my W2's today I need to file a.s.a.p having a money crunch problem I need to resolve some stress in a hurry. Don't know what to do file it on my own or pay somebody to file it for me. MA had a change in the law that all residents in MA has to have insurance thanks to Mitt Romney I have to file proof that i have health insurance or i'll be penalized $200.

I need money so bad that I'm thinking or doing a rapid refund BS to take care of some loose ends A.S.A.P

went on turbo tax and i'm very surprise of what i'm getting back I thought I would have gotten less but I'll settle w/what it says.

    what are your thoughts?

    Dimples,

I have used TurboTax for years. The software is pretty accurate. If you file electronically, you should receive your federal refund within 2 weeks. Turbo Tax partners with Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. A fee will be deducted from your refund, but I think it is around $40. Jackson Hewitt or H & R Block charges way too much. I think you will be fine.

  13. Should I take any other proof like school transcripts or grants given while I was in school to show why I didn't have to work those years?

I have two suggestions (1) Don't use a lawyer. I wasted time and money. Use this website to post any questions. (2) Unfortunately, Uncle Sam does not care about the fact that you were trying to further your education. If you do not meet the income guidelines, get a co-sponsor.

  14. I need some advice.....

Look at mt time-line and you can see the frustration. My wife (who is jamaicn) dropped off the 230 form on Dec. 27th and we still have not heard anything. Seems like the embassy in not organized at all. Should i call to see if they have scheduled an interview date yet? If so what is the best number to call?

Also, we still haven't gotten a passport for her daughter yet....how long does it take to get one?

    Jason,

Look at my time line. There are not many K-3 filers on this thread. Most Yardie members are K-1 or CR-1. I know that you are extremely frustrated. Don't waste your time calling the Embassy. Once a date has been scheduled, the State Department will have that information in the system. Once the DS-230 is entered in Kingston, it generally takes 2-3 months to obtain an interview date. Call 202-663-1225 (State Department). Have your case number ready when you call. This number is invaluable because after you get approved, you can also check the status of the visa (e.g. Has it been printed)?

As far as your stepdaughter's passport, did your wife use regular or express service?

  15. :help:

I need others feedback and help. My case has been pending for seven months now with no approval, denial or RFI. Every time I call I get BS stories about my case not being 6 months of business days, or some other excuse. I have finally came to the since that they have lost my case.

I contacted my local Congressman Peter Defazzio and they sent a e-mail to California Service Center. This was about a week ago no response yet.

I called USCIS Thursday and made a request for a service expedite on my case. The officer on the phone was trying to give me some BS excuse that I have to wait 30 days outside of the 6-month processing time. I called them on the 7th month from my petition being received May 19, 2007. I called them December 19, 2007 and had to argued with three different officers and one supervisor to get them to start a expedite service. I called them out on their BS excuses.

I’m at the point to just pack up and move to Colombia with my wife. But I know that it will be very challenging if I do. But my wife is very much feeling the same as me.

So my self and my wife have decided to give it until February to see some sort of decision or change. If not well then my Visa friends I have to pull out. I do not understand what is going on with these people at USCIS. But they have their ways of trying to wreak marriages.

God bless you all and please feel free to send your helpful replies. My wife is already showing signs of weakness from this process of waiting. I’m afraid to lose her. Our attorney suggested that I should take a break and go down there for one month to strengthen things up? My wife feels the same; we need energy and positive strength here.

    God bless every one. :help:

I have been waiting for nine months with no response.I have called customer service, called my congresman, and written letters myself, and nothing.I ,just like you am ready to go to Panama and forgetabouit !

    Panamenia,

No te preocupes. I'm telling you this process is designed to ruin you. Por ejemplo, here is an e-mail that I received today-

The last processing action taken on your case Receipt Number: MSC07060XXXXX

Application Type: I129F , PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) Current Status: Approval notice sent. On January 16, 2008, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service.

HOW CAN I RECEIVE THIS WHEN MY HUSBAND IS ALREADY HOME? HE ARRIVED TO THE US ON NOVEMBER 28, 2007. When I got frustrated, I back away from the situation. Basically, any thing related to "La Migra" was off limits. Your time will come when you least expect it. Keep the faith. I know exactly how you feel.

Tip: When I contacted the local Congressmen, I got no where. Get in touch with your US Senator. There should be two for your state. Here is the link for more information-

  16. Hello Everyone,

I've got a simple question. When does my fiancee actually need to submit

the I-134? She's gotten the packet in the mail after the NO2 from the

Consulate, but we wanted to know when the I-134 was needed by the consulate.

Is any financial support documentation before the interview? Any help would

be greatly, greatly appreciated! = ) Thank you.

Your fiancee must submit the I-134 at the time of the interview. Be sure that she has your pay stubs, W-2 (last three years), bank statements, employment letter stating date of hire, salary, etc. I was not asked to show half of the financial information. However, it is better to be over prepared. Here is the link for K-1 beneficiaries (US Embassy in New Zealand).

    Good luck!

  17. Hell all,

After arguying one more time wih our lawyer... a RFE was sent on December 20th and he says he never got it... now USCIS is telling us we have aproximately one more month to answer to it before the whole case is cancelled!

They are supposed to fax a copy of it again monday to my husband...

Anyways this time my husband called the lawyer and really got mad after paying $3,000, he could not even file the forms correctly and didn't even bother sending the evidences we had gathered for him... he just sent the marriage certificate... no need to tell you how upset we were yesterday when we found out AFTER my husband had managed to get an apointment usuing the InfoPass. Upset and so sad after being separatd for 9 months already...

Otherwise we would probably have not fond out and would have seen our case cancelled!

Anyways, the lawyer offered to end our agreement and said he would be willing to reimburse us... After a talk we decided to take up on his offer since he never did anything right anyways and we had to fight with him all along.

We sent him a hand signed fax to accept his offer. I hope he is going to honour it now and that we won't have to fight over it again.

We think we can handle things alone from here and in case we found a real good professional attorney who is a member of the AILA who already gave us some advise even though he was not paid for it.

Just needed to get my frustrations out and share this experience with you guys.

I am sorry to hear that you are going through such an ordeal. Get your $3000 back and move on. You do not need a lawyer. I had one, and it was the biggest waste of money. If you have any questions regarding the K-3 procedures, simply post them. Good luck!

  18. I'm trying to find my cancelled check to get the reciept number for our case. I've searched both this site and gov't site, but can only find the new fees, not the fees prior to July 2007. It I have the exact amount, I can find the cancelled check. Does anyone know the amount to file I-130 prior to July 2007? Thanks.

    One Luv,

The old fee for the I-130 was $190. See link

  19. In the last week,I have received four e-mails.USCIS claims that they are making important updates to my case. But when I call or log on to my account, these updates are nowhere to be found.Has anyone else experienced this ?

At times, one can not go by the USCIS website. In May 2007, my husband had been approved (NOA2). To date, the USCIS still shows that the case is pending. On the other hand, the USCIS website had immediately updated information with regards to my hubby's EAD card.

I contacted a total of 4 politicians. This is because it had taken almost a year from the date that I filed to get an interview. K-3 petitions normally don't take as long as CR-1/IR-1's. If your case is within the estimated processing time, there is not much that you can do. Once the times lapses, then by all means involve your Congressman. Believe me, Congressman Isakson helped. Within a week of faxing a letter to his office, I had an interview. Suerte!

  20. I have a friend who applied for his wife. He called DOS and was told the interview date is 2/11/08. As of today, neither he or his wife have received the interview letter. He has called DOS and sent emails to the embassy without luck. DOS finally gave him the number to call the embassy directly but they will not answer any questions unless its thru email. What can he do?? HELP

Since an interview has been scheduled, his wife needs to make an appointment for a medical. In Jamaica, the interview letter (Packet 4) must be given to the receptionist at the doctor's office. However in Bangladesh , the requirements read that the beneficiary must bring passport and passport photos to the appointment.

    I found this information.

    http://dhaka.usembassy.gov/uploads/images/...r_IV_Oct_06.pdf

A confirmation letter should be sent to your friend in the United States and his wife in Bangladesh. Snail mail is a bch! If the interview letter is not received by Friday, January 18th- have him contact his US Congressman. The state officials are not as effective.
