Hi I have just sent my ds 2001 to the sydney consulate. I emailed them and they told me that they were scheduling interviews for the month of january 2008! and that they shall let me know when my interview will be. I thought sydney was faster! So It looks like several months without the wife! Has anybody else had this with sydney or put in their ds 2001 recently and have been scheduled a interview sooner? Thanks
Wow! I am sorry to hear about the delay in Australia. I submitted my DS-230 in July. Jamaica has a wait of 2-3 months for K-3 filers to receive an interview. Hopefully, you will get through way before January. Please do not allow this immigration process to cause any tension between you and your wife. If any thing, this ordeal should bring you two closer. Take care.

Hey everybody.
Me and my fiance still don't know what visa is the best for us. So could anybody please tell me which one is faster, which one is easier to do, and which one is cheaper? I would really appreciate your help.
The visa prices have increased; therefore, the K-1 visa is more expensive. However, I feel like you will get through more quickly. Good luck!

Jomo, I agree I have witnessed ppl go thru tough times when they 1st come to the country. It is a big adjustment and you love each other and u have to fight it out. Ur right there aren't enough talks about how hard it can be or will be when ur SO gets to the country.

Does any one have the name of a supervisor at the Immigrant Visa section of the Embassy? In November 2006, I filed for a K-3 Visa. Why are K-1 filers getting interview dates more quickly? Any time I send an e-mail, I keep receiving the same lame response that a date has not been sent. What is the delay? I want to send another e-mail, but I am not going to right now because I am angry.

I'm in the process of filing K-1 for my fiance in Jamaica but have a friend who's also just starting the "process" and is unsure about which petition to file. Here's the scenario.....
She met and got engaged to a man from Jamaica who is already working here in the States on a work visa. His current visa expires Oct 2008 and she's unsure if they should be looking at a K-1 or a K-3 later down the road. They want to eventually get married but don't know if they are legally allowed to do that while he's already here or should they just wait until he's no longer on the work visa, wait till' he's back in Jamaica....then just file the K-1?
I've heard mixed things about all of this in the past and wasn't really sure what to tell her. It seems like it would make sense for them to get married while he's here - even if he has to return to his country for her to file the K-3 but she wants to make sure she's doing everything on the up and up.
Any advice I can give her would be helpful!
Post your question on the Yardie Thread. There are tons of members that can help. Unfortunately, I am not sure about which petition your friend should file.

Have you all ever called to see if your DS230 was received by the embassy if u mailed it in? Did they give u any response as to if it was received. I just call embassy lady refused to check for me
told me the person workin the case may not have entered it in the system so i have no way of knowing if its received or not
she said call back in two weeks !! what!! she didnt look up nothin i asked her can she check she refuse
Ja Love,
I sent my husband's DS-230 via FedEx (Atlanta to Kingston). Although a representative signed for it the next day, the form was not entered in the system until 2 weeks later. At first, I thought that the form had been lost. Hold tight- this process will cause hypertension if you let it.

JA Tam,
Regarding the rescheduling of interviews, here is what I read from the Embassy website-
Consular Section at US Embassy to Close on Election Day
The Consular Section at the United States Embassy in Kingston and the US Consular Agency in Montego Bay will be closed to the public in observance of the Jamaican National Elections on Monday, August 27. There will be no visa interviews or routine American Citizen Services available. Visa applicants holding interview dates for August 27 are NOT required to make new appointments. The embassy has set aside Thursday, September 20 to interview anyone possessing a valid appointment confirmation for August 27. Applicants who desire to travel prior to September 20 are encouraged to monitor the embassy’s website for possible openings and cancellations. The embassy’s website is http://kingston.usembassy.gov/non-immigrant_visas.html. (more)

How about this...the ds230 i mailed to chris yesterday via DHL at 1:30 pm reached him just now! what one day...im pretty amazed at the service
Yay! Let's hope AirPak is as fast getting that visa to Marlon!
Have you or Marlon called AirPak? Perhaps he can go to the office to pick up the visa in person.

My husband lives in Port Antonio (2 hours from Kingston). He still has no power nor water. His house sustained minimal damage. Since the Embassy was closed on Monday and Tuesday of this week, I hope that we will not have to wait much longer for an interview. Plus, Monday, August 27th is Election Day. The folks with August 27th interviews were postponed until Thursday, September 20th. I e-mailed the Embassy two weeks ago, and was told that my husband's interview would be in October at the earliest. Our 1st wedding anniversary is on October 20th. That would be the greatest gift- to have him home.

Try calling your husband in the wee hours of the night. I called at 12:42 AM EST, and got through on my husband's Cable & Wireless cell phone. Unfortunately, Digicel was down. However, it is up and running today. Despite the media coverage, the hurricane was not as bad as the forecast. My relatives in Port Antonio and Montego Bay are without power. Things could have been a lot worse. You will hear from your family soon.

We finally got an interview date of September 25, 2007. It turns out that my fiance's son's common name caused his background check to take a longer time than usual. Now we're just praying about Hurricane Dean, praying that a miracle happens and its path changes.
Congratulations on obtaining an interview! In November 2006, I filed for my husband (K-3 petition) and we still do not have an interview date. We have to keep the faith regarding Hurricane Dean. This is no time to fool with our loved ones. Please keep us VJ members posted.

WE ARE ALREADY MARRIED. AND WAITING FOR INTERVIEW DATE FROM EMBASSY.
WE ARE LOOKING AT THE DS-156k FORM WHICH SAYS IS REQUIRED.
who was filled out the DS-156K form???...IN A CASE WHERE YOU WHERE ALREADY MARRIED.
AND HOW DID YOU FILL IT OUT
THIS FORM SEEMS SILLY FOR THE K-3 IN A SPOUSE CASE.
Since you are already married, you do not need to complete the DS-156K. That form is for the fiance. For the K-3, you must complete the DS-156 instead.

When I sent my husband's DS-230 to the Embassy, I neglected to include a cover page. I heard about having to include a bar-coded cover page. There was no mention of that in the K-3 packet. Should I have written a letter with the NVC Case Number (KNG2007XXXXX)? Please advise.
No, a bar code is not required because you are filing the K3. The bar code cover sheet is suppose to be attached w/the DS-230 IF you are filing for the CR-1/IR-1 visa. The form is provided from NVC.
Anna
Anna,
Thanks for the information. I hope that I did not delay the process by simply putting the DS-230 in an envelope. Perhaps, I should have written a short note.
You should be fine just follow-up w/the Embassy. Also please updated your timeline or add one in your signature. It will be helpful for others.
Anna,
I received an e-mail that the DS-230 has been received. I know my husband will not be at home with me tomorrow. However, I know that an interview is near. Yippee!!!!!

Um...When my fiance sent in his DS-0230 to the embassy, we did include a cover letter. But the we didn't include anything with a bar-code. I know that the DS-156 you have to generate a bar-code. But not the DS-0230. Then again, we are doing K-1 visa.
Did you include a letter with the DS-230? I simply put the DS-230 in the envelope and sealed it. Since the Embassy has no record of receiving it, I think I should have included a note. What do you think?

Hello All -
I was wondering if anyone has advice for sending a express delivery package to Jamaica. My fiances interview is in 8 day and I have to send him some forms in the mail. I've read on a few posts that sending mail to jamaica can be slow and also some mailings are held up in customs. Does anyone know a quick and easy way to send Docs with avoiding the possibility for them to be held in customs
:help:
????
Thanks
Denise,
Federal Express (www.fedex.com) has an express guaranteed service (By 6 PM Jamaican time). I paid around $40 to send a document to the Embassy in Kingston. It cleared customs. In addition, I was able to track the package. The system has a signature image as well. Good luck to your fiance. The other option is DHL (www.dhl.com). My experience is that they have never been able to give me a guaranteed delivery time.

Help! I am getting frustrated.
I filed for my husband last November. We are still living in different countries. My problem is obtaining an interview. I overnighted the DS-230 (Part I) form. It was received 6 days ago. I even have a signature confirmation from Federal Express. How much longer we will have to wait to receive an interview date? I have to purchase a plane ticket, receive time off from work, etc. Please advise.
Frustrated in Atlanta,
Mrs. Scott

Hello -
Our interview dat is in 2 weeks and I just wanted to know if I needed to complete an affidavit of support? The consulate did not request one, but I read that it is good to complete. Also, does anyone know how long it takes to recieve the police certificate ? and how much it cost? Lastly, how much does the ds156k cost to complete I've read $100.00 and $300.
Denise,
My husband's interview has not been scheduled. However, my lawyer compiled the following-
DS-156K (You'll need two copies). Copy and paste the link. Upon completion the system will generate a barcode on the DS-156.
http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/82063.pdf
Complete DS-157 (Just in case).
http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/79964.pdf
A visa application fee of $100 U.S. dollars must be paid (in Jamaican dollars at the exchange rate set by the U.S. Embassy) for the NIV interview. For Jamaican and Caymani residents, you may pay this fee through your local Paymaster Jamaica Limited branch. For residents of other nations, you may pay this fee at the cashier’s window in the U.S. Embassy on the morning of your appointment.
Also, bring the last three years of your tax returns and W-2's, a letter from your employer (on company letterhead) stating your hire date, salary, & job title), pay stubs (as current as possible), and bank statements for the last three months.
Regards,
Mrs. Scott
I suggest that you do the same.

I downloaded a DS-2001 (formerly OF-169) & DS-130 (Part II). Since my husband has not received a Packet 3, can he hand deliver the forms to the embassy in Kingston? It seems like every thing is by appointment only. Once he submits the forms, does any one know how long it will take to get an interview? We have been married for almost 8 months. Please advise.

QUOTE(Tricia B @ May 3 2007, 05:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I would advise your fiance in Jamaica to check the mail on at least a weekly basis. I received approval from the NVC in September 2006, the Kingston embassy sent out the interview packet sometime in Oct 06, but they do not inform you when they do this, so it's best for your fiance to check the mail often. In my case the packet was returned and had to be sent out again. Also once he does the paperwork to get an interview date, I would advise your fiance to continously check because we didn't get our appointment letter until 2 days before the interview! Jamaica mail is slow and unpredictable. You can email the embassy to find out whether or not they sent out a packet yet at: kingstonivinfo@state.gov
