Hi there, just wondering if anyone has tried to get their IR1 expiration date extended or reissued. With covid the trip to activate the visa is going to be a pain as there is a 3 week quarantine period required when coming back to where we are living now. Visa expires end April and we really just need like a 3 month extension. Do they extend the same one or reissue a new one? I know we need to redo medical check in our case, maybe police check, maybe some fees... also I know its "up to the consular officer" and that no timelines are guaranteed after getting back in line.... but am curious if anyone has any personal experience with this that they could share? thanks!

I'm in HK and also have a CR1 visa (expires in July); what form are you using to submit for extension/replacement? and when, based on my visa expiration date, should I file for extension/replacement?
in HK as well and looking to extend for my spouse. the 3 week quarantine here would be really hard otherwise travel would be doable. really unaccommodating here. hope all ended up well for you! happy new year

We're in a very similar boat but my spouse already has her ir1 visa...however we live in Hong Kong and there is a 3 week hotel quarantine required upon arrival from the US. We are asking the consulate about the process. It sucks.

Do your research. Although it’s not a physical stamp. Its still called VISA STAMPING.
I thought its called visa issuing, and the stamping is what happens when you enter the US at POE....

Guam
Yeah it seems impossible to be able to time this thing ideally.... We are now trying to decide whether we all move in April or we make the quick trip before. Guam is an option but either way (there or back to New England where I am from) the real drag is having to spend 2 weeks quarantine upon return to HK. We also have 2 primary school aged kids keeping it extra fun.
Good luck!

So, my spouse got approved and we should be getting the passport back this week with expiration of April 23rd.
Can we make a trip before then, stay for a week or so and then come back to Hong Kong for a few months before moving back for good? She'll get this i551 stamp on the way in that's good for 6 months generally for travel and is basically a "temporary green card" until the real one comes in the mail?
thanks!

Well the consulate said "The visa appointment cannot be re-scheduled unless the failure to appear for the interview is due to reasons beyond the applicant’s control. Such reasons might include serious personal illness."

Yes. To all documents, applications and fees. In addition, no guarantee a visa would be reissued
Thanks for the reply. What if we held back something like a birth cert or even the medical check and just said we don't have it. We could get "temporarily refused" and then send over whatever missing document a few months later and then get the visa, pay the fees, etc ? So minimum we would need is maybe a new health check??

So my spouses IR1 interview is tomorrow in Hong Kong, we only had about 3-4 weeks from the notice and kind of rushed with the medical so we'd make it in time.
Our plan is for our kids to finish school here... We don't mind making a trip early next year for a week or two to activate her visa, she could then come back to HK until late June, early July (I'm assuming that is fine as well). However at the moment any incoming travelers from USA need to spend 2 weeks in a hotel here to self quarantine (regardless of a negative covid test on arrival)... Obviously not ideal and hard to say if it will change next year...
Anyone else have any experience with this? If she doesn't travel before 6 months, would we need new medical check? New interview and fees, etc? Any other ideas? I have also gotten in touch with consulate here. Thanks!!

@HRQX thanks a lot mate. I just looked at the category and can see the difference how they issue certificate. option number 33 will show all offences. I guess thats the one i need.
Yup, looks like we made the same mistake! Good luck, at least you can get it online unlike China which was brutal. but at least its done, we have our interview scheduled in 2 weeks.

WOW. I am now having this issue, ridiculous they can't figure this out.
Used a couple different PCs but it worked on one after a while of waiting and seems IE is the best for me to use.

When I went to the Police station for my Certificate of Character in Trinidad & Tobago
Thank you... Yes everything is different, for Australian it seems fingerprints not necessary. Also we are not living there now so we can't get there unfortunately either...
"Australian Federal Police certificates based on fingerprints are preferred, but a certificate not based on fingerprints is acceptable if it shows all aliases ever used."
I think I picked the wrong category the first time around. I think i picked 35 ;-(
- In same section under Purpose of Check, select Code ‘33’ – Immigration/Citizenship – for supply to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
- DO NOT SELECT Code ‘35’.

So this is what I got from Australia for my spouse's police certificate. Is this not the right doc? It seems to be OK to me but NVC has rejected?
I do see on the travel.state.gov "Exceptions: None – applicants must apply for a Complete Disclosure Australian Federal Police Certificate." Are they rejecting because mine says "standard disclosure" ??
Ugh might have answered my own question but appreciate any input. Thanks!

Yes there is no requirement from USCIS or NVC or State Department that the applicant and petitioner have a joint bank account. As mentioned, it can help prove a bonafide marriage but there is other "evidence" that can be used to help prove that as well if needed!

Does the petitioner/sponsor or beneficiary/application ever need the actual hard copy of the NOA2 (130 approval notice) ? NOA1 made it no problem, but they messed up before NOA2 and it got sent to the wrong address. Ive gotten them to correct the address now but not sure if they will resend a notice out. Im guessing not.

The HK Consulate just started reopening earlier this month for limited US citizen services - https://hk.usconsulate.gov/sm-2020061501/
Just have to wait a bit for them to open up for visa processing again. I assume it should be happening soon, hang in there.
IN the next couple weeks sometime, I plan to submit all our documents to NVC for an IR1 visa interview at the HK consulate. Let's see how it goes.

I don't see all countries listed at this site either?

HI there - my spouse and I just used https://www.chinatraveldocs.com/ to help us with getting my spouse's police cert from China. It was not easy but Pete was excellent and helped with each step along the way. It would have been impossible for us to go there and in person and Pete worked with us 100% remotely. Has been keeping in touch regularly on status and we'll be receiving our hardcopies in the next week or so - he's already sent pictures of the docs in hand. A big check off a long list. Hope you are having good luck with it and reach out to https://www.chinatraveldocs.com/ if you need help!

Haha thanks, so do I... Status on egov still showing:
As of May 28, 2020, your request for us to review an administrative error on your case, referral number OVP###TSC, is currently not assigned for processing.

Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to your question, but did they ask for that after you uploaded the DS5540 to the CEAC portal?
Haven't gotten that far yet 😉

Hmmm yes the 33 worked for my wife. Maybe double check the NVC civil doc site and make sure its still showing 33?
