Aliare, you're right there was more than wonky edit. I think someone sorted the table without selecting all rows, but that does not explain why everyone got changed to expedited. There were also a few formula errors in column J.

I have now reverted to the last version that made sense and fixed all the obvious errors I could find – see here. Please be careful when entering data.

Standard processing, applied at a USPS office in Los Angeles.

    Mar 30 - Applied
    Apr 13 - "In Process"
    Apr 14 - Check cashed
    May 5 - "Approved"
May 5 - "Shipped" (Arkansas Passport Center)
    May 8 - Passport received

So about 5 and a half week for the whole process.
  3. Thanks

The only thing I can think of is that the process (timeframe) 'starts' from when they received the application, not from when you mailed it.

DOS receiving the application 3 weeks after you sent it, seems a long time! but it could be a post office issue.. I'm not sure.

it might also depend on which passport center your application was sent to - I'm not an expert, but have read other threads that say the application can be sent to various service centers, depending on workload.
none of this is within our control, unfortunately.

so - as far as your application being in the current 4-6 week timeframe for expedited.. I think it only counts from 4/26.

someone can correct me if any of this is wrong.

I really hope you hear something soon.

A few years ago I was on a message board about dating in former soviet union countries.  Someone there was talking about making travel arrangements for his K1 fiance.  He started looking into the AOS process and the provision in the I-864 about the liability if the immigrant goes on public support.

He worked himself over with so much worry and anxiety that it affected their relationship.  He could not relate to her after she arrived without thinking about the I-864.  It pretty much ruined their relationship and she went back without getting married.  He was miserable, and she was miserable, especially after quitiing her job and selling her things to move only to have to start over again back home.

My advice - evaluate the strenght of your relationship.  The I-864 liability, thought not trivial, is minor compared to financial and emotional costs related to divorce and, in rare and extreme cases, false claims of VAWA.  Do not let the public charge liability influence you.  Let your relationship influence you.

Are you guys compatible?  Do you see a happy life together?  If you are unsure of her character and personality, then rethink your decision for the K1, hopefully before her interview.  If things are good and you believe she is the "one", then happy journeys!  Well...as happy as you can be while filing forms and dealing with USCIS...

A day or two discrepancy in the travel history is generally fine.  The IO will typically go over your travel history when interviewing you. You can mention the correction of the travel dates at that time. When you go for your interview, you should have complete travel history (dates, places ) in a paper/excel - and keep it updated for any travel after you filed the forms. Same thing for your residences.
When the IO reviews your travel history, you can mention about the correction in submitted information and any new travel/place of residence since.  In my case, the IO had all my travel history in front of him (the ones after submitting the forms as well ) and briefly asked about the travels (I travel internationally for work so had multiple trips before and after).

    CONGRATULATIONS!

glad the tip with the parking helped.. I had my appointment at 10am and there was no line to get into the building, so it's good that those of us with different experiences can pass them on!

and.. the journey may have come to an end.. but now you'll have the 'fun' job of working out when to apply for a passport (i'm waiting) and the forum threads on 'how to sign the Naturalization certificate' are a rabbit hole too.. ha ha.

I think contacting the SSA office is supposed to be done too, to change immigration status, but those have to be done in person and they're all currently closed.

anyway - glad it all went well!

Just got out of federal building in Los Angeles with the Naturalization Certificate. The whole process went smoothly and quick! The whole process took about 2 hours in total and the immigration officer was super nice. After checking in, I waited about 5 minutes for the interview. The interview lasted about 20 minutes and then she told me I was approved and the Oath will be held shortly after. I waited another 1.5 hour for the oath and the oath itself only took a few minutes.

One tip is that you might want to go to the federal builder a little early even though it says you cannot go 15 minutes earlier than the appointment time. It’s because the line to get into federal building is long. It took me at least 25 minutes to get into the building. So I would say you should be in downtown at least 30 - 40 minutes earlier.

Also, thanks Matt for your suggestion! I did park in the parking lot you mentioned. It is very convenient and inexpensive!

That’s it - I couldn’t believe the long journey finally came to an end! Good luck everyone!

    Can confirm Los Angeles.

I had my interview last Thursday: July 16th - and once I passed the test etc. I was sent back to the main waiting room where they were processing the Certificates (took another hour and half or so) and doing small batches of amended ceremonies - all of the legal requirements only, very quick.

Best of luck with your process and Interview!

Congratulations to all who received their letters recently. And best of luck in your interviews!

My interview was also scheduled on July 15th to August 11th (originally scheduled for March 31st) at the Newark office. I haven't received a letter in the mail, but did see in the documents section that a new document was uploaded.

    you're very welcome!

Good Luck with the Interview - another local tip I can think of is: don't go to the 'Los Angeles mall' to Park.. it is directly across from the Federal Building, but currently for staff only due to Covid-19. there were a few other 'no public parking' signs up around there too.

I found Public Parking in the Aiso Parking garage, just a few minute's walk away.

    Thank you!

as for the selected service thing - on my interview letter it states 'any evidence of selective service registration' which I read as 'If it applies to you'

the Officer only mentioned it as part of asking in person most questions from the N-400 ("have you ever been".. etc.) and they all got a 'NO' from me!

I'm pretty sure any of this would only apply if you'd been in the country between 18 and 26 (bit of a civics test there)

the interview was face to face.. masks on throughout of course - the Officer was at a desk but had a protective screen up.

Had my rescheduled (from March) Naturalization Interview this morning (Los Angeles)

everything went well - pretty standard but quite thorough.. I had divorce and traffic ticket paperwork to go through. apart from that I didn't have to show any extra documentation (taxes etc) apart from the permanent resident card, drivers license and passport.

pleasantly surprised to be told the Oath would be happening on the same day too, so it's all being taken care of at one time.

I was still happy to have over prepared just in case anything else had been asked for, as these things can change from officer to officer.

I won't make a long post - but am happy to answer any questions regarding how the process works in L.A. right now if anybody wants to know.
