I have never heard of anyone receiving a hard copy confirmation after making an online address change.... only email confirmations.

I wasn't sure what sort of email confirmation I should expect. Moments after submitting my AR-11 online, I received an email from them saying "Address change request successfully submitted: Updated Address To:" followed by my new address - but you'll note that it only says my request was successfully submitted, not that my address change was successfully made. And I never received any other communication about it, which is the reason I phoned to double check out of an abundance of caution (which turned out to be warranted).

It seems fairly "rare" that an address change actually goes through with USCIS. So you're not alone, millions of others have had the same issues, me included. It has been recommended by other from members to send the form in the mail instead of changing the address online.

You don't have a pending petition/application right now I assume, so  the address change issues won't affect anything. If USCIS believes you haven't lived in the district you are filing your N-400 from for at least 3 months before filing, then you just show them proof such as utility bills, lease etc.

Thank you so much, this makes me feel better. I'm going to mail the paper AR-11 shortly, with tracking. I hope this one sticks. I also have the email they sent me after I submitted the form online, so if this does come up when I try to naturalize I can show that I did actually file it well within the 10 days.

If this is a common issue, I wonder how many people unknowingly still have their old addresses on file with USCIS, assuming it's been updated because they filed the AR-11 online. I only called to be extra cautious and was expecting to hear they had my new address. It was such a shock.

  3. I am a green card holder and moved to a new home within the US in May. Within days of moving I submitted the AR-11 online and received an email that the request to update the address was accepted. My husband mailed his I-865 and got a confirmation letter by mail that it was accepted. I was bothered that I never received a final confirmation that my address was updated, so today I phoned USCIS and found out that indeed, they had my old address on file and no apparent record of my new address. The agent on the line couldn't give me any answers about why it wasn't updated. I am going to try mailing the AR-11 now, but I'm extremely anxious about this given that it has now been 2 months since my move. Is this going to cause me problems when I apply for citizenship? I did everything right but for some reason my online AR-11 didn't stick. Any tips or comfort would be extremely welcome. I'm an anxious person and this type of thing freaks me out.

  4. Hello, I have an IR1 green card I received roughly a year ago. My husband and sponsor is a US citizen. We're planning on buying a house sometime in the near-ish future, which will be our first change of address since I arrived here with my green card. I'm aware I'll need to file the AR-11 within 10 days of moving. From what I'm reading, though, because my husband completed an Affidavit of Support for me, he'll also have to report his change of address (form I-865). I hadn't heard about this last point before, so I just wanted to make sure someone can confirm I'm understanding it correctly! It's no issue for us to file an I-865 when the time comes, but I don't want to misinterpret and risk muddling things if the form isn't needed. Thanks for reading!

  5. Hello! I joined my husband in the US on a spousal green card earlier this year. I left the US once for 2 weeks since then. It never occurred to me that when it became time to naturalize, I would need to prove continuous residence in the US. While I have my own US credit card I'm named on and a US bank account, I am not named on my husband's and my lease, internet, or utilities bill. This is because my husband had already set all these up before I joined him. I am not even listed on a cellphone bill, because I joined my husband's family's plan. I am not yet employed but expect to be soon (with a US-based company, of course), however, when my husband and I have children I expect to be a stay-at-home mom for a few years. So I'd imagine by then I'll only be able to provide a year or so of proof of employment in the US.

Is all of this going to be a problem for me for the N-400 in 3 years?

Pls how did you eventually resolved this? Did this affect you at POE?

It did not affect me at POE. I called USCIS about it (by the point I called them they'd already mailed the green card, unexpectedly early) and the agent I spoke to pretty much told me that if I don't have any issues using the Green Card, then it didn't really need to be fixed. I have some concerns about it causing me issues when I go to the DMV to get ID (was waiting to get vaccinated before I go), so we'll see how that goes. From what I've read about the issue, it happens to a lot of people and for many of them it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

For people living in Ontario, any recommendation of which doctor can deliver the medical results the fastest? if there is a different page discussing this subject I apoligize please provide the link if you have it.

I don't know who delivers the results fastest but Dr. Lee's office in Toronto called me to say they'd submitted their results after 6 business days. I also found them to be organized and cordial - phoned them a few times to ask questions and clarify some things and they were always helpful and kind.

  8. Just wanted to give those who may not know a head's up that USCIS' official stance seems to be that they require a signature from the beneficiary (and only the beneficiary) when the green card is delivered. They say this in online updates and a USCIS agent confirmed this for me when I called them this morning. I personally had originally provided my in-laws address as a mailing address because I thought maybe the mail delivery would be more reliable to a house (instead of our condo building), and had a minor anxiety attack last night when I realized that if I'm not there to sign for it, the green card might be sent back to USCIS. Luckily just a couple weeks ago I had updated our mailing address to be the same as my physical address, and I just got the green card tracking information and it is indeed being delivered to our condo building. Previously I wasn't sure if I'd updated the mailing address too late for it to actually affect where my green card would be delivered.

That said, I've asked around on Visajourney and it seems that while USCIS says that they require a signature for green card delivery, in practice that doesn't seem to be the case. Most people seem to say that their delivery didn't require a signature. I don't quite get why the USCIS says one thing and does another in this case, but whatever.

tl;dr: If you provide a mailing address that's different from your physical address, if the USCIS does begin to adhere to their policy of making beneficiaries sign for their green cards on delivery, there is the potential for a problem in your green card getting delivered if you're not available to sign for it.

I just don't want anybody else to go through the stress blitz I went through the last 24 hours, especially so close to the end of the trek with your green card nearly in hand. If I'd known ahead of time there was a chance I'd have to sign for my green card, I would never have put down my in laws' address as my mailing address.

    Sorry for the lengthy post.

  9. Hey guys! Is it normal in uscis.gov for "Pending Cases" to still show I-551 after I made my POE? There was no email or anything to confirm my passport was stamped, so I just want to make sure everything's normal. They did stamp my visa at the airport, I just was expecting something in uscis.gov to update or something. Some visual confirmation that my green card is being worked on...

I hate that it’s all a guessing game.

I know what you mean. Honestly though, I've started just telling myself, if the information isn't readily available, it's likely not super important, or it's the type of thing you're meant to just find out when you arrive. I'm sure the people at the check-in counter will know, because I'd imagine they've talked to many people who are coming to immigrate and activate a visa. Please report back and let us know how it went!

I have read the FAQ and logged into my CEAC account to see if anything was updated but I don’t see anywhere that says anything about case status, just where my application is currently at (Montreal). Is it something obvious i am missing? Any help is appreciated.  Thank you

    Try https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx

That's the link I used to check my status post-interview.

What’s everyone’s typical delay for their medical to be sent? Did mine in Montreal on the 9th and still no email that it was sent to the consulate. I’m going to call tomorrow as it’ll be 6 business days. Maybe I’m becoming impatient but all the delays we’ve all been though.

With Dr. Lee in Toronto, 6 business days from exam to the phone call notifying me that the medical had been sent.

Sounds like they listed your middle name as part of your first name and left the middle name space blank.

If you get the GC with the same error, you can fill out the I-90. It will be free of charge since it is USCIS's mistake. You can also try to correct it now by filing an e-Request here:

    https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayTypoForm.do?sroPageType=typoError&entryPoint=init

Thank you! I will try correcting it with that form. Do you think this could cause me problems when I do POE next week?

  14. I just received my IR1 visa and am planning to do my POE next week. I just paid my immigrant fee online on the USCIS website, but noticed after paying on my profile on the USCIS website, where it says "pending cases" it has I-551, and below "I-551 Personal Information" it has my full name listed like this:

    MyFirstName MyMiddleName "NMN" MyLastName

So there's "NMN" right in the middle of my name. Apparently NMN stands for "no middle name", which is ridiculous because my middle name is listed right next to it.

The temporary visa that has been put in my passport has no such typos.

    My questions are:

    1. Is this going to cause me an issue at the POE next week (as in will the border agent see a mismatch in names in their system with the name in my passport and visa and say I can't come in)
    2. Does this mean when my green card is mailed to me, it will say "NMN" in it, and
    3. If so, is this going to be a major issue to correct

    Thank you for any help!!

Congrats! Where abouts are you located? Just wondering if the quick delivery was due to you being in Montreal!

I'm in Toronto. I actually opted to pick up the visa at a post office rather than have it delivered to my house, since in my area many of the streets have different but nearly identical names, so every so often our mail ends up at someone else's address. Just didn't want to chance it with such an important document. So my passport was mailed via Canada Post Xpresspost directly to a post office.
