Hi everyone!!
I had my interview today at Mumbai embassy. So happy to inform that my visa was approved!!
Questions asked were very simple but it was like a rapid fire round 😄
1. Who is calling you ?
2. How did you two meet?
3. Was this arranged or love marriage?
4. Who arranged it for you ?
5. When did you two meet ? Explain the timeline
6. What does your husband do for a living ?
7. What does he do in his free time?
8. What are your plans after reaching USA?
9. Have you been for your honeymoon? Where did you go?
10. What do you like about your husband?
11. What kind of food does your husband love to eat?
12. Have you been to USA before ?
She asked for wedding album and pictures from our honeymoon. She asked me to identify one person she pointed out from the album.
That's it and she said the golden words!! Congratulations your Visa is approved!!!
She did not ask for any call logs, chat logs, financial documents from me. But it's advisable that you should take them along with you
My interview was at 7.30am. I had reached by 6.30am. They started calling all the immigrant visa applicants at 6.50am itself and asked us to form a line. The security checked the passport and the interview appointment letter. After getting inside they asked to arrange the following documents
1. DS 260 ( the one stamped at the VAC appointment )
2. Marriage certificate and a copy
3. Police clearance original
4. Medical reports ( just take the white colored sealed envelope. You donot need to carry the CD given along with the reports)
5. Birth certificate and a copy
6. Two photographs USA VISA size ..
First an Indian officer checked all the documents and asked some questions like who is calling you ? , Have you been to USA before? Have you visited any other county?
A token number is give to you and asked to wait for the final interview.
Luckily my number was called second and I was done with my interview by 8.30am. It was pretty fast for me. People are randomly called for final interview. There is no sequence followed. It might even take 3-4 hrs for the entire process.
Good luck to everyone who are waiting for their IL and to those whose interviews are lined up. Just be confident and trust yourself.
Thank you everyone on the VJ community. Everyone have been of great help here.
Good luck!
Did they give you an estimate of when and where we can pick up the passports with the visa?
Where did you specify where the passport will be delivered? At the interview?
Thanks!

Hi @Bama_Nation,
Yes our interview went well and I am currently in the States.
I was in the US before so the interviewer started off by asking questions regarding my previous visas which were F1 and H1B.
The interview then asked how I met my now wife(fiancee back then - we got married the next day I landed in the States ). He looked at my passport and saw that I travelled to various other countries and he asked if I make a lot of money. I said that I save for my travel and hence I was grateful and fortunate that I found someone who shares my values and that we get to travel to these countries.
He asked me what my dad does for a living, and then he asked me about our proposal. He said that my visa is approved and I should hear back from them in a week about my passport.
Mine was a K1 visa, so I dont know about DS5535.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the reply.
Congratulations!

Hi All,
Just wanted to inform everyone that my wife has finally made it to the US today, 11th June. Visa approved from Mumbai consulate, 31st May.
Thank you everyone for your help along this long (sometimes frustrating) journey, and wishing the best of luck to those waiting for their interviews now.
Immigration was quite easy - asked her basic questions, like how long have you been married etc. The only hiccup was that with the new "IV docs in CCD" stamp on the visa, there's no physical envelope to be handed over to the Immigration officer, and he was a little confused with that, so they took her to another room inside, and there once he had confirmation from another officer, they stamped her passport.
Congratulations!
May I ask how long you had to wait to get your passport back from the Mumbai consulate?

My interview is scheduled this March and was wondering if you can help me out with the following questions
1) Is I-134, W2s and paystubs enough or do we need anything else from the US citizen like tax return filing docs.
2) Are 2 years of W2 sufficient?
3) How many paystubs do we need. (Like last 3-4 months or 6 months?)
4) We were also planning to letter from my fiancee's employer. The employer provided us with the following draft. Does this sound good or do we need to include any more information?
5) Is business casual a proper dress code or do I have to wear a suit and a tie?
To Whom it May Concern,
This letter is to confirm that <petitioner-name> has been employed with us since <data>. <petitioner-name> is currently working with us as a <petitioner-title>. Her annual salary is <petitioner-salary>. This is a full-time position. If further information is needed, please contact <employer-number>.

I hope your interview went well!
Please let us know what your experience was like..
We have an interview on June 28th in Mumbai.
CR1 spouse visa
I am a US citizen sponsoring my wife.
Are there any members who have recently interviewed at Mumbai for CR1.
What was your experience like?
Has anyone mentioned the interviewer asking for additional social media or information that might be on the DS 5535?
We were never asked to fill out a DS 5535 but the new policy just went into effect May 31st so I am hoping this will not delay the visa approval.
Thanks
Jay Maru
Thank you!

For IV processing these questions have been added to DS260. According to my lawyer those who have already submitted DS260 should be good.
On a separate note. How many days did it take for your case to go from Case Complete to Interview Schedule?
Thanks for the reply.
We got a Case Completed on April 8th.
Interview scheduled on May 9th.

Hello everyone!
According to the new policy
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/visa-social-media-state-department_n_5cf4898ce4b0e8085e3bfde1
New questions related to social media, phone numbers, email addresses phone numbers for the last 5 years now being asked.
However we have a spouse visa interview on June 28th in Mumbai India for my wife.
When we filled out our DS-260 in February we were never asked this new information.
Will they ask this information at the interview?
Will this delay the visa approval?
Does anyone have any experience whether all applicants are being asked this even if they applied before the new policy went into effect?
I am traveling to India to be with my wife during the interview and hopefully travel back to the States with her visa.
Thank you everyone in the community!
Case Complete to Interview August 2019
in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports

All,
Just wanted to share our Mumbai interview experience.
Our interview was on June 28th at 7am.
We arrived at the consulate at around 6am.
There was already a lot of people waiting across the street.
At around 7am. The security told everyone to line up at the entrance.
No phones or electronics are allowed. So make sure you give it to someone before you enter.
We were let into the embassy in line and then entered the building.
First step was the security where everything was scanned.
Make sure you have copy of the interview letter.
Then we were led into a another room with about 100 chairs and 17 counters.
We were all given 2 tickets in the order that we stood in line.
Then consulate workers checked all our paper work.
DS-260 confirmation with Biometric stamp (make sure you take this as some people forgot this and were turned away)
All police clearance certificates
Passports
Medical report
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Have copies of each of these documents
Also have all your supporting documents
Marriage photos/albums
Petitioner financials
Evidence of relationship
We are called to the counter 2 times.
First we are called to the counter to double check all our paper work.
Then we wait for our second call to the counter.
This can take 1-2 hours depending on what your ticket number is
Then we are called to another counter for the second time for the actual interview with an interviewer.
This time they begin to ask questions
Who is the petitioner?
Does he have any siblings?
Where was he born?
Where was your husband born?
How did you meet?
Have you met since the wedding?
What do you plan on doing in the States?
Basically they are trying to 3 things:
1. Verify who you are
2. Validate the validity of the marriage and it is not fraudulent.
3. Make sure you are not a burden to the state if you immigrate.
We had all our travel plans and meetings and timelines memorized.
It is a good idea to prepare and memorize a timeline of when/where/why and for how long you met while you waited for the interview date.
The interview was about 10 minutes.
And everything went great and we were APPROVED!
They took our passports and said we will be notified by text or email when it is ready.
Some tips:
- Having the petitioner (husband/wife) accompany you to the interview makes a huge difference because it gives the interviewer more confidence in the relationship and reduces your spouse's stress levels which makes the interview a lot less stressful.
- Be patient and in a good mood and smile. If you have all your paperwork and relationship in order, you have nothing to worry about.
- Dress appropriately, but I would suggest keeping it simple with wedding bangles and tikkas since that is not something you wear on a daily basis.
- Be respectful and patient
We exited the consulate after about 3 hours and it was pouring down rain, the monsoon rains had just started.
So make sure you have someone waiting outside or ready to receive you.
The interview was on Friday and we got a text on Monday afternoon that the passport was ready for pickup.
We picked Mumbai as our pickup location, the same building where the biometric is done.
Passport tracker:
https://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-passporttrack.asp
Check case status:
https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=WwjqOlbeRYzCYubaSQI+RA==
Again, if you have all your paperwork in order the process is straightforward.
It never hurts to bring in more evidence and paperwork than is necessary, just in case they need something. Better safe than sorry.
We flew into the States a few day after collecting the passport.
Make sure you pay 1 more $220 fee to process the green card before you travel:
https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-immigrant-fee#How_to_Pay_the_Fee
At the port of entry:
Since it was our first time entering the US, we were taken to a separate area for processing.
Here the office asked us to sign a conditional form, that basically said we need to convert to IR-1 on our 2 year marriage anniversary.
Then our bags were put through the "agricultural" department. Where we were asked if we had any food items or seeds.
I would suggest not bringing in any food items into the States as it might cause issues at the airport.
We cleared everything, gathered our bags and exited the airport.
Thank you everyone on this thread that helped answer questions and post their experiences!

Good luck!
