  1. As of right now nothing! After the surprise interview she and I had, they told her that allegedly they were wrapping up our case and they would give there decision soon, that was 17 days ago and still no new update, expect like a week ago she got an email from embassy with another 221g this time they requesting for her Colombian ID, which is odd that the day of face to face e interview this was not requested when they gave her first 221g only requested updated criminal records and more proof of relationship, almost 3 months later and after having second interview face to face still not requested, was until a week later after that interview that they sent that request, which provided them with the Colombian same day! Now we’re waiting still. This has been emotionally draining. I’ve given everything I can to show proof with more then 400 images all of sorts and met my partner many times in person beyond the minimum requirement! Didn’t think that it would take this long being others have interviewed went more smoothly and Bebe asked lees info then we have! So still waiting

  2. Update to my case! So my fiancée got a surprise visit from the embassy and I received a call! I didn’t expect them to contact me nor my fiancée think they would arrive to her home, they asked a lot of the same questions as before names, birthdates, time we’ve know each other etc! It wasn’t nerve racking, after we finished they provided us with an email to send additional proof of relationship beyond what I already proved which has been 400+ images text, email, receipts, video calls, phone calls etc! They send after we send the additional info they will make there final decision. Pray for me and fiancée! I know what I have is real and never thought it would turn out to be so hard to try and convince them we’d are a real couple in love.

  5. @yulay1980 that’s awesome to hear so happy for you, even though I only know you from this website, I truly understand your pain in having to wait waiting the time you did and the stress & worry this must have caused waiting such a long time and the joy you must feel now that you saw the status changed to issued. I can only pray we hear some good news this Kirby as well, currently still no change to our case still under “Administrative Processing” after she sent the required documents she got a generic confirmation email that they received the documents after that it’s been updated several times just like you some for use asking about the case and other times just them seeing our files I guess, but still no change to Status. Praying for some good news this month. Stay in touch once in he USA always good to have people that understand road you’ve been through.

  6. @cata & JB  so let me get this straight, they didn’t originally keep your passport after you had your interview? And then later on asked you to mail it in? That’s weird because usually from what I’ve read about the Colombian embassy they usually keep it after the interview. Any reason why they decided to not do that and now asking for you to send it? What’s the status of your case?

  7. @Jorgedig I have zero experience with the immigration process this is a first for me, why I came here with those hopes getting  some clarification and guidance from someone more experience or knowledgeable! But What I do know is immigration process is just another set of rules or laws established by the government, which I assume  you aren’t allowed to interpret the law, but instead must follow the rules/laws that have been established by the federal government, why I presented this question! But I’ve already got it clarified, seems I had an old K-1 packet guide mixed in with the updated version. Couple years back Mexico/Venezuela & USA weren’t required to present criminal records for visa interview. In the updated version 2018-2019 only USA is exempt! All others countries are now required to present criminal records. So being that said, they followed the correct procedure updated by the federal government and were indeed required and in the rights to request that document. So I’ve cleared that concern.

  8. @Greenbaum I really appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed response it was very informative.

    1. Response to your reply, of course we want the visa, and did comply with officer request for updated criminal records and more proof of relationship, interview was on 4/8/2019 & requested docs sent to email instructed on 4/16/2019

    2. I imagine everyone does go through some “AP” after there interview. Just feels like it’s been forever especially since  some people are lucky enough like you said to have a turn around that’s within a few days!

    3. Didn’t know that, but the break down you gave sounds like it makes perfect sense. Currently our K-1 shows as Immigrant Status  -> “AP” and like I’ve mentioned above there have been 3 date updates 4/22/2019, 4/30/2019 & 5/03/2019.

Thanks again for taking the time.

  9. @payxibka I realize its a right and not a privilege! But thanks for the reminder.

Lastly, it was in the K-1 packet we received from the  Embassy of the United States of America Consular Section, Immigrant Visa Unit Bogotá, Colombia. I was just reviewing the packet again, and realized it stated that. So trying to understand why would they ask for it, if The packet they provided USA states they don’t require one from these places.

  10. My fiancée is Venezuelan born living Colombia last 2 year, but her parents are Colombians that lived some time in Venezuela. She had her interview at the Bogota embassy on 4/8/2018.  After she was given a 221g form because Counselor requested more recent criminal records, then one's she presented from Venezuela and Colombia since they were 6 months old & more proof of relationship specifically text message conversation. We provided all that was requested on 4/16/2018 to email provided.

Here's my questions if anyone can help.

    1. I read that this online- > (Police certificates are also required from applicants who have lived in another country for more than 6 months since turning 16 years of age (except for the United States Mexico and Venezuela). But my fiancée was asked to present criminal record for Venezuela even though she hasn't lived there last 2 years and from my understanding of this she didn't have to. if this information is correct, why would they ask for it and would this be a violation or negligence on their part of her rights during this process?

    2. From what I seen of some Colombian K-1 visa participants that were approved, they all had some sort of Administrative Processing afterwards, but average wait time given by the officer after being approved and passport kept was 8-15 business days to receive visa.  Would this still be the case for us? Since only motive for getting a 221g was for outdated police reports and more proof relationship, but were given chance to submit those request docs, which we did on 4/16/2019 but as of 5/4/2019 still under  Administrative Processing.

    3. On the CEAC website even though our case still says Administrative Processing when looking it up dates have changed 3 times 4/22/2019, 4/30/2019 & 5/03/2019 does this mean they are looking at our file and processing whatever they need to, or is this just generic updates?

Any help or guidance on these matters would be grateful

I did speak to lawyer this past week since this is starting to stress me out after all the months waiting to get to this point and he stated  if they kept her passport that's a good sign and from his experience  90% are leaning towards giving her the visa.

  11. @TandClaudia hope all goes well for you, although it’s not required and even they don’t allow you the beneficiary to be present  at the time of interview, it doesn’t hurt and I actually feel it only strengths proof of ongoing relationship, unfortunately in my case my fiancée wanted to go as soon as possible and didn’t wait for me to get vacation time off for me to go and also she felt it wouldn’t  be necessary for me to go, being she had acquaintances that did  it without the petitioner  present and passed on the spot. Her parents are colombia born but moved years ago to Venezuela during the 90’s when colombia had issues with the cartels, so she was born in Venezuela, now recently 2 years ago she and her family moved back to Colombia since things are so unstable there’s now and Colombia is much better in safety and stability. So at the time of her interview she had her Venezuela passport and of course she was born there, wish I would’ve taken out her colombia passport but we had limited time after she had already her visa appointment so would’ve been able to get in before the interview.

  12. @TandClaudiaNot a problem! Some info even with .gov instruction can be  vague  For example proof of relationship and they have met at least one time is what is stated for a K-1 application and alleged approval, but at the time of the actual interview it’s to the discretion of the counselor what documents the my ask the beneficiary to see,, some may ask for just couple photos, other emails and photos, other emails, photos, call logs, video calls, passport stamps and the kitchen sink.

Like I said we know people that went, had there interview at bogota Colombia were asked only 1-3 questions and requested to see limited or no real info at all. And were approved in less 2min-5min flat. Sadly that was not our experience, my fiancée interview lasted 30min and silly question were asked as to I can speak Spanish even though in my I-129f I clearly state my father is from Mexico and mom from Puerto Rico and we had many text message showing conversation in Spanish.

  13. Ben- this a first for me, I see where your coming from, I can only assume from what others have stated that have done the K-1 visa in Bogota Colombia! If they are leaning towards approving the visa they keep your passport if they are not, they don’t, when it comes to Bogota Colombia embassy! Which in this case they did. But required more proof of relationship and updated criminal records which we sent out 8 days after interview.

Adil- I didn’t realize that it had to be from the last 90 days being it is my first time do this process, and at least from the Information i researched in my case didn’t have that information at the time, if that were the case would’ve printed those documents later instead of sooner since I was trying to be proactive and have all docs required as soon as possible months before her actual interview. And yes we were able to get updated criminal records for both Colombia & Venezuela within a couple days after interview and collected additional 100+ images like you’ve stated video-calls, e-mail conversations, flights bookings, passports stamps from multiple trips made and pictures of her family and when I gave her the engagement ring enough though most of that was provided in the packet I gave her, counselor told her specifically she wanted to text conversation. So we did as instructed and sent to embassy 4/16/2019 8 days of she had her Interview. Again, from the experience she had getting drilled 30min asking all sorts of questions vs others that had only 1-2 questions and where asked for less docs then we were, it felt like she was. Since it’s to the counselor discretion what they pick and choose to want to see at the time of the interview.

Also, what does it mean in the Ceac website that last update was 4/30/19 does that mean they are looking at your case or is that just a generic update.

  14. Hello community, I need some guidance my fiancé is Venezuela born living in Colombia, but her parents are colombian she had her interview on 4/8/2019 in Bogota Colombia, she was drilled for over 30min. She was asked some really crazy questions like how are you able to community with your fiancé petitioner, which she really replied both his parents are Latinos and grew up learning  both Languages. Other important docs like income proof wasn’t even asked for, but I know I make the more then required income and had given her 4 months pay stubs, 3 years of tax filings, bank info etc in the packet she took to her interview.  Anyway, here is my question/concern after interview her passport was kept, but she was given a 221g because counselor stated her criminal records for venezuela & colombia were not recent enough do to being 6 months old from the day we printed it, like to note she has a clean record as well as i. Anyway Counselor also wanted to see more proof our relationship specifically  text messages and not just pictures or phone call logs. Again her PASSPORT kept, from what others have stated this is a good sign when it comes Colombia embassy K-1 visa interview!  She was given instructions on how to submitted required evidence to proceed with K-1 Visa process. On 4/16/2018 we submitted updated criminal records & 100+ images of text various dates and times to the email provided by counselor. Its been 15 days since we submitted requested documents and there have been 2 updates on Ceac site. One on 4/22/2019 & one on 4/30/2019 still says Administrative processing. Is this normal, because the documents they requested pretty straight forward and we submitted with no issues! In terms of how Interview went and how long we’ve waited after submitting required documents? Because she had a family friend do her interview last year in Colombia and they only asked her 1 question, how did they meet and didn’t ask to see anything else and was approved on the spot and received her passport stamp with visa in the mail within 10 business days. I feel like my fiancée was singled out due to her being Venezuelan born, reason I’m saying this is in my travels, maybe I’m wrong but  I’ve seen uprise of a lot of Latin American countries being very strong with Venezuelans trying to migrate to another country. Any help or guidance would be helpful. Thanks.
