    Hi,

My husband petitioned for a spousal visa for me in the month of March with my maiden name because I was still using it but we are contemplating if I should change my surname to my husband's. Please I would really like to know if the change of name would have an adverse effects on our petition or cause a confusion during the interview.  Thanks in advance

Totally your choice, it doesn't affect your case. Just go with evidence of change of name to your interview.

I am filling out the affidavit of support I-864 I am the sponsor (wife) and the DS-5540 Public Charge Questionnaire. My husband is in Nigeria. I will wet sign, he will wet sign and scan it to me. I have a letter from work for employment and health insurance. I will submit it to the NVC. Does my husband need all the originals? If so does anyone know a ruff estimate of the cost for a letters to be sent to Nigeria? Or is there another way to do this. I have an idea but I won't type it. Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

DS-5540 is not needed at this time. And you can scan your i-864 and other tax documents and send to him and he prints out and take for his interview. Only original documents of beneficiary and your marriage certificate is required. Petitioner documents can be scanned copies.

    Hello,

I was told everything was on hold for processing interview due to Covid19. I have seen people traveling in and out of Nigeria.

What's the hold on K1 at US Consulate Lagos?

USCIS approved April 2020 from California.

NVC still pending approval at this time and not ready for interview yet.

DS160 was completed a few months back.

What can we do now to expedite or get help somewhere to get my husband here in the USA?

Hire a lawyer? Talk to Nigerian Immigration? American Immigration?

    Please guide me. Thank you.

Good evening house, please I need your advice. My interview will be coming up on April 22, and my Police report clearance will due on 20th of April, I did it January 20th. They said the clearance is just for 3month, but some people says it can last for a year, am really confused, I don’t know what to do. To get another one or leave it like that, don’t want anything that will put me on AP. Any advice for me please?

On the Lagos website, it says they are valid for a year. I know people who have gone for interview and they didn’t have problems but if you are unsure or doubtful, just get a new one, better safe than sorry. With this Ban in place, who knows what next they will ask for. When was your DQ please?

Hello guys, please does US Embassy verify divorce certificate? So i met this girl and she is bothered about it cause she paid someone to get the DC. She is not on visa journey so that’s why i am asking for her. Her interview is may

Yes they do. They started in February. All the Nigerian visa applicant I know of in our WhatsApp group that has been married before were placed on AP because they need to verify their divorce certificate. So she should verify and make sure what she has is Authentic.

Oh thank you! Pls how can I go about it? What’s d process?

Go to NPC close to you, check their website online for office address. You can go to the one I’m Surulere if you are in Lagos. Tell them you want to do Attestation of birth. They need high court declaration of Age and I think passport photograph. They will give you a form to fill and tell you when to come back for it.

Thank you! Pls I want to ask why is birth attestation required? And is it compulsory to bring along , because I have only my birth certificate which I submitted on NVC!

    Thanks

If you were born after 1991 then you can use the NPC birth certificate but if not get the attestation of birth and take along with you to your interview. I have seen people put on AP because they didn’t have it. Better safe than sorry.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone, who directly and indirectly contributed to this first hurdle of my journey. For those who update and share their experiences, thank you. And I thank God for his mercy, grace and favour, because without him, nothing could have been done. I was highly favoured on that day. My interview was originally stated for the 4th of March, 2020 by NVC/ Consulate. But on Monday morning, on the 2nd of March 2020, I got a call from the Lagos Embassy, that my interview has been moved to the 3rd of March,2020. Seriously, I panicked. I asked the man, if something is going on and why me. He explained they have alot of people scheduled for the 4th of March, hence the call to reschedule others. Although, he assured me, everything was fine and that immigrants visa were being issued. I came back to the VJ group and announced even though few people didn't believe it and some others came out as negative. I guess most people would anyway.😁 On the day of the interview (3rd March,2020), I got to the embassy exactly 7am, did my make-up in the car (A beautiful face is worth looking at😂), and was ready by 8am. Some guys tricked me and said, the NVC payment receipt will be required, I argued abit and eventually parted with N5,000.00 for printing the form 😡. So print you might just want to have that handy, should they ask for it, but I was never asked to submit that. Went through the queue, there were about four people on the immigrant queue, waiting to go in, and the non immigrant line had quite a number. Security scan and all, then we waited about 2hrs 41mins at the waiting point before we were eventually asked to go into the embassy. (Btw I wore my wristwatch, so you can go in with that. But dont wear a smart watch). Security done inside the embassy and we were moved to the Immigrant section. Limited seats available so we had to stand( met alot of people in there). Before I got in, i was given a number, number 35. So we waited to be called by our numbers to submit the Original Birth cert, Police Report, and Marriage Cert. When I got in, I immediately went to Window 20, thinking that was the guy to receive my Original Docs, and he goes, " I didn't call you madam"😂. That was the infamous window 20, who drill and deny alot of people. So I apologised and went to the queue to be called. Window 21, called my name to submit my documents. He greeted, Hi, you are ****, we spoke yesterday. I was dumbfounded😧, then he said, I rescheduled your interview on the phone. And I said " oh yes thank you. He took my finger print, collected my documents, looked through my birth cert from NPC and asked if that was what i sent to NVC, i replied and told him yes, but i also have my Attestation of birth. He looked at it and said, I'm fine with the Birth Cert. From NPC, however, if you are asked at your interview to present the attestation of birth, hand it over to them, because you might be asked to present that. I told him thank you and went to join others. The wait game was on. While waiting to be called, I took my time to listen to questions asked and how people responded to the CO's. Basically, window 18, 19, and 20, are the interviewers. Window 18,19, were abit friendly, they smile and will make you feel at ease. Window 20, hmm this guy is tough. Until I left, I didn't see him smile. Alot asked during the interview sessions, K1 visa applicants, were asked to provide loads of evidence. Questions like, where did you met? how?why did you decide to go to social media to contact them? What do you do? How much money do you earn? Highest level of education? Do you have your WAEC result? Your highest level of qualification? What other form of ID do you have? Your man is retired, who is your co sponsor? Where is your birth attestation? Are you lying? Where is your previous passport? Aside from your current state, where else have you lived in? You met in 2016, why didnt you get married? You were still married and chatting your current spouse? You had customary wedding with your ex, where is the dissolve certificate/ letter? Where did he engage you? How many siblings do you have? Where is the death certificate? E.t.c anything to put you in Administrative processing, kindly avoid it. A lady who is a US citizen, came with her daughter, and was thoroughly drilled by window 20, he kept asking the 11 years old girl alot of questions( please prep your kids before you embark on this journey), they asked her, if she has seen her little sister before now and she said NO. The CO asked the lady, when you filed your application in the state, you never indicated you had a child, so where did this child come from? The lady kept quiet and was flabbergasted. Those of us behind were like WOW, this people have information. She was outrightly refused and informed that her case will go back to the state. (I felt for the little girl, she was sad). Ok, back to mine, the infamous window 20, called my number (35), and those around me said, sister, take heart it is well🤣, because the guy gave only one person and place another on AP. So I just smiled and stood up. This was around 12:45pm. Me: Good afternoon sir CO: You are about to take the oath Me: ( smiled) Okay sir CO: Oath taking ( directly looking into my eyes) Me: I swear ( Looking deep into his mean eyes😂) CO: Who filed for you Me: My husband CO: What's his name? ME: Answered. CO: How did you meet? ME: Told him I've knew my husband since ×××, and met him in ××× CO: Oh, he works with you? ME: No, he came for something CO: When did he go to the state Me: Born in the state( He knew this, but he asked) CO: So you started dating when? Me: In xxxx, saw him in xxxx when I went to Harvard for a program CO: What program in Harvard? ME: Program on xxxxx CO: So when and how did he propose ME: In xxx, but when I was in the state with my parents and child, he told my mom he wanted to marry me. CO: I see you have a child ME: Yes CO: I see she is a citizen, can i see her original birth cert? Me: Yes sir ( Handed it to him with the USA passport) CO: Did you do customary with your child's father? ME: Never CO: Was that your Fiance? ME: Hmm yeah CO: Ok now the story is correlating coz I can see you had a fiance in the past ME: Yeah ( I completely forgot, in my Non immigrant visa, I once stated I was engaged) CO: Can I see your previous passport? Me: Yes sir CO: What country have you been to? ME: Xxxx, xxxx, xxx, xxxx, xxxx, xxxx, xxx, xxxx and france CO: I see you visit xxx alot, but your shenge isn't here? ME: Yes, in my other passport, I left it at home. CO: Have you lived in any state in Nigeria aside from xxx? ME: I lived all my life here but I school in xxx CO: Oh okay, I know there ME: Oh cool CO: Can I see a picture of you and your husband before the wedding? ME: Here sir ( gave him the magazine I created, with our pix, chats and call logs) CO: Where does your husband live? ME: Xxx CO: This is your right in the United state, ( Gave me the pamphlet) without saying approved ME: Okay thank you, can I go? CO: No, you are always in a hurry ME: ( I smiled), I'm sorry CO: That's fine, ( He brought out the white sheet) You have been refused due to the presidential proclamation, however, you are eligible for a waiver( Handed the white sheet over to me and ticked the box, that says, I'm eligible for a waiver) and we will contact you on or before 2 weeks. ( He kept the passport). ME: Thank you. Have a great day. CO: Thanks and looked at me this way🙄....( Like hmm you escaped me today 🤣) He handed all my original documents to me and my fellow applicants were all excited, and kept saying Ha, madam, congrats o, and thank your God.🤣🤣🤣 I came out praising God for his goodness in my Life and all he's done for me. It was like a dream💃💃💃🙏🙏🙏🙏. On the 5th of March,2020, I got a mail that my passport was at the DHL office in V.I, I panicked because, it was too quick and i started asking my VJ family if all was well..lol. Checked on ceac website and realised it's been issued. On the 6th of March,2020, I picked up my passport and saw on the passport, that the Presidential proclamation 9983, was waived. Thank you all, I appreciate. 😘 ( I warned you all, an epistle emerging🤣🤣🤣)

Thank you! And congratulations once more.  How did you make the magazine for the photos and chat logs?

    Hi,

He didnt asked, as I told him my highest qualification during the interview, although he asked for my old passport and flipped through my expired B1/B2 Visa's.

Alot of people were asked to present their WAEC results and other form of identification.

This is my thinking I might be wrong, the US got Information about terrorist and other nationals from Chad, Syria who entered into the country illegally and some of them trying to proceed to the US through Nigeria because our immigration records is a total flop.  Basically, every thing to identify you and be sure you are a true Nigerian. ( my opinion).

Alot of people where asked to submit it via DHL, and will be placed on AP( Very annoying).

I'm really grateful to God, my hubby is the happiest man alive right now😁.

Did you have to submit photocopies of any documents? I’m actually thinking of making photocopies of all my documents and take along but not sure if it’s necessary.

Thank you! I’m confused, I thought we need to send the AOS first then they will request civil documents

You have to fill the DS260 first, then the list of civil documents needed will be on your account. You can still submit AOS before civil documents but they won't be reviewed until all civil documents has been submitted. So it's best to submit both at the same time.

Good morning family!! I am so excited today!! I check the website and saw this!! Let my husband and I journey give you hope. We were one of the first interviews since the ban, we did not file any paperwork regarding a waiver, it was automatically considered and a week exactly after our interview, it says his visa has been issued!! Oh, God is so real!!!

I just got a call right now from the Embassy, to find out when my Medical was conducted😭

I hope I'm safe. My result is meant to get there on the 3rd and now my interview is for the 3rd.

I need someone to please explain to me what's going on here.

I think you should call the hospital where you did your medicals and update them on what is going on and see what can be done. Better still go there yourself if it's not too far from you.

    Hello Guys,

I just called a call from the Embassy in Lagos that my interview has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

Asked why and they said they have so many people for the 4th, and that they need to quickly interview few of us.

I asked, are they issuing immigrant visa to people, and he said yes, that it's those that have ties, and criminal background information that they ain't giving.

I also asked that a letter be sent to me in respect to the new date, he said when I get there, I'll see my name on the list and the time is still 8:30am.

He said, since I'm in Ikoyi it wont be an issue to come over and I told him I have a meeting at work.

I also asked about the public charge form, but hes explanation wasnt too good.

He said get a copy of your employment letter to show you work and all.

    Prayers up guys.

Let's sort this out once and for all, my man is going to be happy its finally coming to an end.

    Regards,

I heard they have only asked for the form 5540 from K1, but to be on a safe side, just fill it up and take along and your credentials too including WAEC. Wishing you all the best tomorrow. Please keep us updated. Thank you

Hey guys, I'm asked to submit our chat records from the beginning of our relationship. I need your advice on this, we have so many chats because we talk hrs everyday and we use Facebook and Hangouts. But we initially started using Facebook. Scrolling to our first chat will take months to do that. I have requested to download my messages on Facebook, can i send screenshots of the downloaded messages or should i send them screenshot directly from Facebook website. I'm confused  because I don't know which one they will accept.

It says on the visa reciprocity site for Nigeria that they want screenshots from the social media pages rather than downloaded version. So just take your time, screenshot the chats, grid them on A4 paper and print them. When was your interview please?

    Hello Guys,

we finally got our DQ yesterday night.

First submission to NVC on Dec 5th and Second submission was on Feb 3rd.

I called NVC multiple times, trying to find a good person at NVC ( most of them are rude ) and finally found yesterday. The lady i spoke with was really nice and heard me well, within 5 hours after the call they approved it.  Sometime all you need is to call them and find a good person there if you are waiting for unnecessary delay.

I called them everyday after my second submission and they do have record of that.  HAPPY its over, now to IL

Congratulations! What did you tell them all the times you called? To review your documents or to find out when they will review your documents? I know once you call, they start telling you what's on the website. I resubmitted yesterday
