Thanks for replying. As of 10 days ago (April 13), I-130 for our adopted son was accepted by the USCIS, so it must have been acceptable. But of course with all that's going on right now, there's no telling when it might be approved...

Thanks for your input. If only I had experienced this, I'm might consider it human error. But if a lot of people have, that makes me worried about the whole process. In my defense, I put the form near the front and labeled that clearly on my cover letter. If you have to fill out a form that specifically is for that purpose, why isn't it honored? Since I'm not living in the US at present, it's not convenient for me to receive a text. I'm hoping that I will be informed by email when the petitions get approved. But at any rate, I am thankful that both petitions have been accepted.

So I just found out that my I-130 petition for my son has been accepted and is under review. However, even though I filled out the G-1145 E-Notification of Application / Petition Acceptance, I never received an email about it (just happened to notice that the check I had sent had been cashed). Same story with the I-130 I sent for my wife last year. Anyone encountered this problem before?

I am an American citizen living abroad with my wife (foreign national), and we have adopted a son locally. He has been our son legally for two years now. It is my understanding that I need to file a I-130 for him to start the immigration process. Anybody have experience with this? What type of evidence did you provide? How did the process go? Thanks for your input.

Your debt card issuing bank must have declined the transaction. I resubmitted the same application even though every page in the application was stamped with some USCIS code at the bottom of the page
@bonnie and clydeThanks, that’s very helpful.

I had a similar problem. USCIS was unable to deposit the international money order I sent. They rejected the I-130 application and returned the forms along with all the supporting documentation. I then had to resubmit the application and paid through my US-issued debit card using the form G-1450, and the payment went through. The submission ended up getting delayed as I have an international mailing address and it takes around two weeks to receive regular mail from the US.
@bonnie and clydeI used a US debit card, but it didn’t go through. Another question: when you resubmitted the application, did you resend the same documents, or did you print new copies of everything?

@pushbrk Thanks for the advice.

Our I-130 application was denied, bearing the message: “your G-1450 Authorization for Credit Card Transaction is invalid due to incomplete information and/or the credit card information you supplied was denied.” I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue, and if there is any reason a debit card could not be used to pay the fee?

Did you guys apply yourself or had help from a lawyer/immigration agency? I’m struggling as to weather I should fill the forms myself or pay for a lawyer.
We applied ourselves, but we are still waiting for I-130 approval, so I can’t really judge whether it is effective. But I have read the available information from here and other sites to get an idea of what the best practices are, and I don’t feel like a lawyer could have given us much more help.

For USCIS phase, send in your filled-out petition with a wet signature. Keep a copy of your entire petition packet as a backup should anything happen (you can just keep a scanned digital copy of your petition packet on a USB, you don't need a paper copy of your whole ~50+ page packet (more or less depending how much evidence you provide)). For NVC phase, you print out and wet sign the affidavit of support, and upload a scan of it to CEAC website, since NVC is all online and nothing by mail (this won't be until close to around a year after you send your I130 packet to USCIS though). For interview, most recommend that the beneficiary take the original wet-signed affidavit of support to the visa interview
@LilyJThanks for your help!

The application itself (form I-130, form I-129F, ... ) should be wet ink. Anything else photocopies are ok. At least that's how I do it.
@USS_VoyagerThanks for your advice.

I’m trying to determine the requirements for signatures on application forms. From the info I can find, some seemed to indicate that you could photocopy/scan an original document with a handwritten signature and it could be accepted. In other places, info stressed that applications have to have “wet” (pen written) signatures. Has anyone successfully sent an application with scanned signatures?

@Rosie91To be honest, I'm just getting started with this whole process, and trying to figure out how it all works, so I haven't really thought about all the details. So unfortunately I don't have a good answer as far as sponsor goes. I hadn't planned to go back sooner, but this is also based on having a small child at home. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@Rosie91Wow, thanks for the information! That is very helpful. Translating the documents myself is definitely simpler. That is what I'll plan to do then, since you've mentioned that self-translated documents are acceptable.
-
@Rosie91Thank you for your input. May I ask, was your information in English already, or did you have to get it translated?
-
@missileman Thanks for the reply! You say that you relocated back to the US to start the Green Card process. Do you think that's absolutely necessary, or would doing it from Taiwan work well enough?

I'm preparing to file the I-130 form and want to make sure that I have enough proof of spousal relationship. My wife and I have been married for 15 years and live in Taiwan at present. We have a marriage certificate that has been translated into English, but not sure what other proofs we can provide. Has anyone used a Household Registration as proof? Any other good proofs that anyone can recommend?

I’m a US citizen (petitioner), and the I-130 for my wife was recently approved and sent to NVC for processing. We have an adopted son that I also sent an I-130 for, but has not yet been approved. I’m wondering if the NVC processes for the two of them are completely separate, or can be done together (one I-864 or DS260 to cover both of them?)? Should I wait for my son’s petition to be approved before starting the NVC process?Thank you!
