Toya1708 got a reaction from Phoenix777 in Traveling on Extension Letter?
    Hi guys!

I got back from JA on  Friday.

Going was smooth but the return was a little annoying.

I flew Delta and checking in was not an issue. The issue was when I got to the USA. I went into the citizen/resident line and when the officer called me and looked at my documennts, he called for an escort. I had my extension letter  as he had asked for it, even though I showed him the stamp in my passport.

I waited at the booth for 10 minutes before he had to go back on the intercom and called for an escort.

I was escorted to a back room where others were waiting. Persons before me seemed to have been waiting long because quite a few persons missed their connecting flights. Some persons were not allowed to continue on to their connecting flight.

The officers were in no kind of hurry at all and they were just cracking jokes and taking their sweet time.

I asked to use the rest room  and was sent with security to the restroom downstairs when there was one right behind them.

I waitied for another 30 minutes before my name was called. I wasn't asked any questions at all. My passport was handed back to me and that was that.

All this took a whole hour and 40 minutes, when it could have taken a minute.

    This happened in Atlanta.

I will just wait for my citizenship before I travel outside of the country again.

Good thing my layover flight wasnt until 4 hrs later.

Yes. I applied within that 90 days period before my 5th PR anniversary. I thought my case would be straightforward; have been working here full time and only gone outside US 3 times for short vacations. I also have TSA precheck so they have cleared me from a security perspective. I have not received the interview notification yet so that probably means my interview won’t be until at least August. It doesn’t make sense why people who applied in the same month have different interview dates. FBI and background checks cannot possibly take months. I also get these annoying monthly noreply emails that “there are still no updates and we are still working on your case.”

Hi, guys. I had my N400 interview on June 5, 2019 and would like to share my experience. I originally posted this on I-751 October 2017 Filers but would like to repost it here since I had combo I-751 and N400 interview.

    10:15 - Arrived, Checked-in.
11:30 - My name was called and the officer told my husband he can come in with me. I only had my N400 interview appointment with me and had no interview scheduled for I-751/ROC.
The officer was really nice, he explained that we were going to have 2 interviews, the first is for I-751/ROC and another one for N400. The officer asked for our passports, state IDs and my green card. Unfortunately my actual passport wasn't with me and gave him a copy instead. Also,  I wasn't asked for any other documents.

    Questions asked to me:
What's your legal name? When is your birthday? What is your address? What is your Country of Citizenship and Country of birth? Do you have kids?
Questions asked to my husband and I:
Is this your first marriage? Do you have kids? How did you meet? Where do you work? How many times have you traveled outside the US in the past 4 years? Did you travel with each other?

Then we proceeded with N400 Civics and English Test and the officer told my husband not to coach me. And yes, my husband stayed with me the whole time. I got the first 6 questions right and the officer congratulated me for passing the test, however, he said I would have to wait for my I-751/ROC approval which should take 2-3 weeks.
I checked my status online when I got home. N400 status is still "Interview was Scheduled" and my I-751/ROC status changed to "New Card is Being Produced". I am hoping it means approval...
Another waiting game but still grateful that our interview went great today. We're almost there!

I am now waiting for my Oath ceremony schedule. You can check my timeline below for new updates on my case.  Hope this helps and Good luck to everyone!

Hi Toya-same happened to me at Atlanta airport. Was escorted to secondary inspection-i also missed my connection flight. After further research seems like secondary inspection is normal when removing conditions and traveling with extension letter. I was very annoyed and frustrated. I'm flying out next month and going through port of entry at Dallas, will post my experience then.

it's all up to you. they usually give you a month of warning before you interview so if your trip is short enough, it may be ok. I was afraid to travel with my extension letters and definitely would be so close to them expiring, so I don't have actual experience with traveling.

I was really lucky today and had a good combi interview experience. Here’s my story, I hope it helps anyone looking for a detailed account. Warning… it’s long!

It was lousy weather, we (me and my husband) set off for our 8:30am appointment in a torrential downpour. I was a little worried about looking like a drowned rat on arrival. 😊

At the front desk, security asked for my appointment letters and we both had to show ID. We then had to empty our pockets and put our items in a container (like at the airport) and go through the body scanner. We were then told to sit in the waiting room. It wasn’t full, just a few people. There was one officer sitting behind a glass window who had the patience of a saint. I was struck by how many visitors needed an awful lot of help and didn’t arrive with receipt numbers or much in the way of documentation. She seemed to spend most of her time directing people to which form to fill out and explaining that this office didn’t provide visas or a form filling in service.

We got called by an Immigration Officer (about 10 minutes after our scheduled appointment time), and were led to a private office. On the way, he asked for my 2-year Green Card and my 18-month extension letter (both were given back to me at the end of the interview).

The IO seemed to have a lot on his plate, was a bit grouchy at first, but was friendly and clear in his instructions. I had to stand on the left, my husband on the right and we raised our right hands and promised to tell the truth.

The IO explained that we’d be interviewed together for my 10 year Green Card and then my husband could leave, and I’d take the citizenship test and interview alone. He had my application on his desk and went through some basic questions from the i-751 – like name, address, telephone number, job – which I confirmed. We’d moved last summer and though our new address was confirmed by Homeland Security, and letters from service centres have been arriving to the right place, he had our old address and updated it during the interview.

He asked if we had a joint bank account, but didn’t ask to see any of the mountain of evidence I’d brought along. Before I knew it, that was the Green Card part done, and my husband was dismissed. Another nice and friendly IO came and escorted him back to the waiting room.

The IO then explained we’d start the citizenship interview with the civics test. I was asked these 6 questions which I got right so didn’t have to answer the full 10:
When was the Declaration of Independence adopted? How many US Senators are there? Who is the Chief Justice of the United States now? What is the capital of the United States? Where is the Statue of Liberty? Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived? Then I had to read out a statement which flashed up on a screen in front of me,  ‘Who elects Congress?’ I used a stylus to write the answer that the IO kept repeating, ‘the people elect Congress.’ Luckily it was legible though it did look like I was kindergarten age. Those things are hard to write with!

After that there was a long list of mostly ‘no’ questions like ‘have you ever committed some horrible act?’ The last 3 or 4 were ‘yes’ questions like agreeing to accept and obey the laws of the States.

He then told me I could relax while he updated the system. He said he was approving me for both Green Card and citizenship and I may or may not get a physical Green Card in the post. He said as my extension letter was good till July-2019, I could hold onto them and not worry about getting a stamp in my passport.

My name and basic details flashed up on screen which I had to check and sign, as this is how they’ll appear on my naturalisation certificate.

He said there was some spaces left on the 19 April oath ceremony so if the system updates in time, I should get an invite in the mail. He then handed me an N-652 confirming that I’d passed the N400 tests and that my application has been recommended for approval. The entire thing took around 30 minutes.

Within an hour of leaving, my case status online had changed to:
N400: Oath Ceremony Notice Was Mailed i-751: New Card Is Being Produced Hopefully I’ll get confirmation in my online documents of the oath ceremony date in a few days.

    Some stray observations:
The IO seemed time-crunched, and said he gets a set amount of time for each interview. You can get a deferred result if you go over time, bring too much evidence (like all the societies/clubs/organisations) you belong to, as the IO has to type it all in during the allocated interview time slot Similarly, the IO types up all you say in response to answers, so keep it brief I was surprised we didn’t get interrogated a bit more, but apparently we are quite boring. The IO said i-751 interviews are typically held if there’s something they want to review in more detail, but in straight forward combi cases, it’s more of an adjudication of the application done with the applicant in attendance. That kind of explains the lack of interrogation. Anyway, thank God that’s over! Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps someone.

I’m really looking forward to getting my oath ceremony date.

    Good luck everyone!

I'm feeling a bit frustrated that we haven't heard anything yet for our N400. We submitted back in October and the newest notification is from November 9th saying they reviewed the biometrics. Is anyone else still waiting for the interview?

Hey! So I was on another website and I saw some filers were saying that their estimated wait time was changed to "We are taking longer than expected to process your case. You do not need to do anything at this time." instead of having the usual months left. I checked my status and it said the same thing, it no longer has estimated case completion is in "8 months". What about you? I am freaking out right now.

I just got off from my interview.!!!!  I got a pending roc and n400. I do got a letter for n400 but not for the i-751, however they have my application with them at the interview and they made me a combined interview...!

My appointment was at 11:15 but they call me in at 11:30 and it almost last 1hr, she explain me everything and we proceeded to the removal of conditions first, then she ask me if I wanted to add any more evidence  to the case and I handed some papers that I bought for her. Later she told me that everything looks fine and said that she will recommend my petition for aproval but she has to do it in another computer later one, then we moved to the n400 aplication asked me 6 out of the 10 questions. And then was informed that I passed the test and and that everything was fine.!

She gave me a paper that i pass the citizenship interview and informed me to expect the oath ceremony no before than march. And that was it so now just wait for the ceremony appointment..!!!

Note mi wife went with me to the interview but she wasn’t call at all.!

    I apply for:
i-751  july/16/17 with no biometrics taken or anything from them since then.!

    N400 october/21/18 biometrics taken on november/17/18, interview February/1/19

I got the usual email today about 'we are still reviewing your case..."

I went and got the I551 stamp in my passport and the officer stamped my passport for six months.

While I was there, I asked why did my I751 case got transferred twice? I said is it because I filed N400? She looked up my case and said 'it is here and I should not worry about it, that I will be approved before my I551 stamp expires'. I was like... ok.....

    So...... I am waiting .....

The good thing is that I was worried about renewing my driver's license and went to the DMV expecting that I was going to get another six months because my one year letter time frame expired and the 18-month ext would extend it another six months. I ended up getting a five years driver's license, based on the 18-month ext letter. I don't know what the DMV sees when they check status but that gives me some kind of hope.

Now, I wait until my local office decides to send me the interview notice. My time frame is saying 8  months.... :/
