It truly depends on your embassy. For me it took 1 month to get interview date, others just a few days, others two months...

NIWjunkie reacted to AOS2021 in 2018 J1 WAIVER TIMELINE
@BINWAIVER my favorable recommendation arrived in the mail today. 14 days since it was sent. Nothing about the NOA yet.

NIWjunkie reacted to AOS2021 in 2018 J1 WAIVER TIMELINE
I never called anybody. I'm not in a hurry, and everything is taking the expected time so far. I haven't received the NOA by mail yet, but it is also expected that some take longer, because I've been following some cases that this happened, plus the USPS wasn't working on Wednesday for a day of mourning. Anyway, I think my NOA might arrive next week and I'm ok with that.
BUT, I also read this: "I did. My NOA1 letter took forever to arrive because they sent it to my address in Brazil and the postal service sucks, so I eventually called them to get my case number, they had had my case for like a week. It got approved a few days after I got the case number. They sent the NOA2 to the US address. It took 16 days total from Received to Approved.
Edit: make sure you check the new website because they often won't update the old one. My case still shows as Received on the old system."
Somebody called them and got their number. It worked for this specific person. That's why I suggested it.

Hi!
Sorry for the late reply,
I don't recall choosing the mailing method. I remember going to the post office and asking the officer for a self-addressed envelope and he took care of it.
As for my notice of action, the document says that it was issued on the 09/18/2018, but I only got it in my address late October, so it took correios almost a month =/
I hope this answers your question.

DoS should take a week or two to acknowledge the receipt of NOS. After this time, you might consider inquiring them about it or asking the Brazilian Embassy to send it again. Good luck!

Hey buddy, when I responded you yesterday I was in a rush on my way back home. Sorry but I messed the things up. Actually, I thought you were talking about the No Objection Statement but indeed now I saw you do not have the Statement of Reason in your timeline. I do believe you have to send it to DoS but unfortunately, I do not know how. Mine was included automatically when I was filling the online forms of my J1 waiver and it was generated as the 8th page of the App_Packet.pdf (a file automatically created when I finished the form). I believe you should email 212ewaiver@state.gov asking for clarification. Do not forget to include your case number, applicant's name, DOB and POB as well as the waiver basis (i.e. no objection). Good luck!!!

@NIWjunkie you can also call the USCIS in a week or so and ask for the number of your case if you don't receive your NOA.

Hey NWIJunkie,
Yes, I was impressed on how fast it was. I did not do anything after I sent the documents package - I guess I was just lucky it got processed that fast. I was in the US for the entire process and used USPS for the packages.
Updated timeline:
28-Aug-2018 - Package shipped to DOS
30-Aug-2018 - Package delivered 12-Sep-2018 - Documents received on DOS website 25-Sep-2018 - No Objection Statement received on DOS website 02-November-2018 - Recommendation Sent 7-November-2018 - USCIS received the package -

Thank you very mucho for the piece of advice.
Guess what?! Just got good news about my case. After a ton of emails I sent to all sectors of that consulate, they stepped back and reassessed my case assuring me they’re sending my documentation to the DoS.
Thank you so much for the good vibes you all guys. Good luck to everyone!
Cheers!

@NIWjunkie
I am not from Brazil but I have been on threads about J1 for a while. I have never heard of something like that and many Brazilians are in Brazil processing the J1 waiver. You should contact the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Brazil, specifically, an office dealing with consulate affairs or an office dealing with these waivers.
In my case, the embassy forwarded the waiver information to an office in the Ministry in my home country, they prepare the waiver and forward it to the embassy, the embassy sends it to DOS. Moreover, the embassy cannot make the decision they told you, that is a federal policy, so someone from Brazil can tell them to stop. That is probably someone who has no clue how things work.

Hi, Im from Brazil, and I have never heard about that. It might be worth it to get a lawyer ( I did not use a lawyer for mine). I don't think DoS would accept if it is not sent by the BR Embassy.
Good luck! And be patient, it takes forever.
