1. Agreed, look to Congress and the Senate. In this case it would be Barney Frank (D), Chris Dodd (D), Chuck Schumer (D), Charlie Rangel (D) and their social engineering gone awry.

Barney Frank rides the baloney pony.

Barney Frank - the perfect example of a whining, inarticulate, imbecile. Or, in the words of the great Mawilson "Barney Rubble" (I think i omitted an expletive there so apologies Mawilson).

  2. It has always puzzled me on how much emphasis is put on degrees in the US. Some of the richest people I know only have a high school education. Just look at the athletes, singers, entrepreneurs and entertainers who earn more in a year each than 100 MBA graduates will earn in a lifetime.

Performance in the classroom does not automatically equate to success in the real world. How many of the world's billionaires are educated, let alone highly educated? not many actually.

I totally agree! Working in HR I could tell so many stories of the ding dongs with advanced degrees I spend more time with explaining policies, helping with performance managment, etc. I'm not knocking education I think its important but there is TOOOO much emphasis on it these days and university does not teach real world experience.

My answer to your original post would be "No" he should not be fired provided his performance over his years of service is/was stellar. There are other ways to discipline an employee...no raise, no bonus, required to take university classes, etc.

yep totally agree. A degree is absolutely no measure of intelligence. By the way Nawal, I think you win the "Most Beautiful VJ Baby Photos" award. They are stunners - congrats.

  3. You might be able to get a refund on the ticket if you agree to purchase a new one in your married name? I'm obviously not sure of the rules for all airlines, but I have had an airline agree to credit 75% of a non changeable/non refundable ticket to a new ticket when I couldn't make a booked flight. Its not the whole cost but its better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick :)

  4. All I can tell you is that when I return to the UK, I have to book my flight in my maiden name as the airlines insist that "the name on the ticket MUST match the name on the passport". I would advise calling the airline to explain the situation.

  5. If he is doing a good job, and is making a difference I don't see an issue. If he was a good fit for the role, and had the required experience, I don't see how his education is an issue. I have hired people in the past who have only completed high school and they proved to be excellent. I think for certain jobs, people put too much emphasis on education.

  6.
ok, there is no right to healthcare

Nothing to do with compassion or modern thinking. It is a simple and true observation.
Ummm...

so if you don't have the right to use your brain, don't use it as an excuse when entering logic FAIL once again.

That in itself is an observation. Whether or not true is not up to me to judge.

What did you observe to reach that conclusion?

Its not about fact - its about ideology.

Does not compute. Perhaps you could enter the domain of personal opinion and list alternative ways where illness is treated for anyone that needs it in a timely, affordable fashion.

I am confused. If you are so smart, could you please get your quoting right?

    ....artificial intelligence my #######.

  8. Just another thing for the government to control. They are just pi$$ed that they aren't getting enough tax on those cheap cans so they want to increase the price of alcohol to ensure they get their greedy leftwing hands on more of the taxpayers money. Gordon Brown couldn't give a monkey's armpit about binge drinking and its effects. Why doesn't Labour tackle something worthwhile like immigration or crime? why? Because it doesn't put money into the coffers for ridiculous schemes like providing cars to immigrants... There is clearly a market for 35 pence cans of hard cider so the government and do-gooder stinking hippy groups need to butt out and go find something better to address.

labour brought us the "asbo" and thought it would be successful!

It became "cool" to actually get an ASBO !!! For heavens sake, writing a strongly worded letter to a 13 year old hooligan who steals cars, attacks the elderly, and robs houses is a total joke. Personally, I would kick the life out of them and then throw them all in a juvenile prison for 10 years. I have no patience for this shite. Really the UK is a total joke.

it has become one, i agree. i remember hearing a kid walking by the shops near here saying "my asbo runs out today, i'm gonna get another one". there's a dispersal order up there but no one ever comes when the kids are upto anything. i was in the shop once and this security guard got attacked by about 15 kids throwing cans of stuff at him and ripping his clothes off. the police didn't even turn up. no one really thought any of this stuff through before implementing it...

oh well, at least the beer is cheap! ;)

yes ! and we should also encourage the 13 year old scum element to buy the cheap beer so that they can be permanently "smashed". If they are always drunk, they are easier to kick!

  11. Hi,

I am currently filing for removal of conditions. The instructions state that affidavits should be "sworn to" or "affirmed". Does this mean that the person signing the affidavit is swearing that the information is correct, or does it mean that it needs to be signed in the presence of a lawyer or other?

    thanks !

I had the people that did ours get them notarized.

Thanks Haole. Is it necessary to get them notarized or did you do that as a precaution? The instructions don't state it needs to be notarized so I wondered whether a simple signed affidavit was sufficient?

  12. Letting kids run wild does seem to be the norm here. I purchased a smoothie recently from a smoothie bar, and just as I was getting served, two kids charged up to the bar (in a mall), and starting shouting their demands. The mother did absolutely nothing so I had to tell them that I was getting served and they needed to back off until I was finished. The mother looked horrified but said nothing which was the best course of action for her at that moment.

  13. I never kept boarding passes or ticket stubs/email tickets either. I panicked a bit when I realized that I might have been stupid throwing them away, but I contacted the airline who sent me a letter confirming all the flights I had taken to the US (because I travelled a lot with work, there were about 20 flights in total to the US over a 3 year period but the airline still took the time to detail every one). Maybe you could try this? Also, as someone else has said, your passport is stamped at entry so you can prove where you have been and when.

  14. What puzzles me is how so many disgusting creatures are all located in the same geographical area ?

greedy selfish people are everywhere, sadly. i encountered a bunch here (in the uk) when i went to the mall earlier. i encounter them every time i go there, without fail.

I don't know where you are in the UK Rocks, but I used to frequent Brent Cross Shopping Centre on occasion and honestly, I hear ya.

OMG !! yer but no but yer but no but yer but no but shut up !! Anyway it woz this fing that you no nuffin about coz you wernt even there and you can't prove nuffin so you dont even know what you are talking about, and anyway it was all shelley's fault cause she was round the back of the yoof centre doin well bad stuff with kyle coz he gave her a bite of his curly wurly, and anyway its all about this fing you no nuffin about so shut up !

just like that, only with violent tendencies! ;)

After loving the Bristolians for a while following the antics of Vicky, I have since moved on to the Welsh. Now that BBC America is showing Gavin & Stacey, Barry Island is officially cool.
