Hello, we are at the NVC stage and confused about how to submit our paperwork for joint sponsors.
I am self-employed, and my income doesn't meet the 125% poverty limit. My parents have agreed to act as joint sponsors, and we all live in the same household.
We are confused about whether to classify one or both them as household members or joint sponsors. My understanding is that they can be both added as household members and our incomes will be combined to meet the 125% poverty limit. That would mean that I fill out on an I-864 as the main sponsor, with my parents separately submitting two I-864a's.
However, my wife has heard that one of my parents needs to fill out an I-864 to act as a joint sponsor, with the other parent submitting an I-864a. I don't see any information from NVC that explains why that is necessary, but she sounds pretty convinced.
So, my question is whether we should submit two I-864a's for my parents, or one I-864 and one I-864a? My parents filed taxes jointly fwiw.
