  1. There is the third option of getting the tourist visa. Though the deciding factor could be if you are near enough to a consulate to make it without too much trouble. But it’s $60 and takes 4-6 weeks.
  2. If she has a SS# or ITIN it should be no problem. I added mine before arrival with an ITIN. I wasn’t asked for anything else. You may have other benefits you can add her to as well-401k beneficiary, work sponsored life insurance, etc.
  3. I’ve seen fewer people talking about the sealed envelope and more about the electronic submission. It depends but I think the envelope has been something they’ve been phasing out over the past few years.
  4. Knowing one person personally who did this and reading several others, the experiences have been that the I751 is handled at the same time-so they do a separate process, but at the same time. So if you go in for the N400, odds are you’ll the I751 adjudicated at the same time. The I751 gets approved at the same time, but people haven’t had to wait for a separate interview.
  5. They’re handled together, from what I’ve read. So the citizenship will make the I751 moot.
  6. So I take this to mean that they and/or your spouse are using the marriage-based visa as a way to make you a second-class citizen in your own home. First-your husband signed up for making you an equal partner when you got married. The home is yours as much as it is your husband’s. Second-it sounds like they are trying to create a wedge in the marriage. Insisting on visiting a home that they don’t approve of the marriage and disrupting it sounds like they think (wrongly)that they can use the visa as a way to get their son out of the marriage. He’s in a same sex marriage whether you’re home or not. Third- your husband can’t have a reasonable relationship with his parents if they won’t accept his choice of a life partner. He shouldn’t acquiesce.
  7. If you were unaware of this process, it is a good time to get organized for it now, because even if you don’t have an interview, you will want to submit a complete package. The more complete the package, the less likely you will have an interview. During this time, make sure your wife is added to all of the utilities and that you get bills in both of your names. Add her to your lease, if that applies or add her to your deed. To show that you have joint ownership. Add her to vehicles, and insurance. Other things to show are bank statements with both of your names as owners of the accounts. Making sure you have deposits and pay household bills out of a shared account., it is acceptable to both have your own accounts for your own purposes, but you should have a joint account that is used to fund joint living expenses. Keep copies of shared credit cards, medical insurance cards if one of you covers the other, telephone plans, and also any trips taken together. Right after we got our conditional green card, I kept a separate file with all of the new information that came in the mail. I especially saved any pieces of mail that had both names on them. Putting together a removal of conditions package can actually be a big job, so it is good to get organized early on and also have a good history of shared expenses together.
  8. If you go on MyUSCIS and begin the application for citizenship, it will ask your marriage date and entry date and tell you if you qualify.
  9. It may depend on the airport, but there seem to be only citizen/non-citizen lines now. In LAX there was signage for residents, but they were no longer used for that.
  10. That’s such a long time-are you considering just going into citizenship to push it along?
  11. It’s legal and fine. However, if she comes for such a long stay, they may interpret it it as immigrant intent. She’ll need to document she has a home and things to go back to.
