No, there shouldn't be anything too alarming. I will warn you, it is a strong vaccine so it might burn for a little bit. That is NORMAL and there could be a small bump from where it was given--also normal! You'll need to come back within a month for the second dosage and then 6 months for the 3rd (normally).

oh boy.. haha I'm making my sister come with to hold my hand. THANK YOU!

    Hello fellow Minnesotan!

It's hard to guess the interview date estimate because every country is different. I know the South African Embassy is a little bit on the slow side when processing and scheduling interviews because they take on many different countries. My fiance, a Indian citizen but Zambian resident, would have had his interview at the South African Embassy even though he is a Zambian resident. I think end of March gives you enough time but it's hard to advise.

Also, I've been to southern Africa and Johannesburg many times.  You can just get the medication (try to get oral typhoid because it lasts much longer) at Minute Clinic. You have to know exactly what you need otherwise they will charge a lot to "diagnose" you (aka go on the US travel website and give you a prescription based off of that).

Yay, minnesota!! Thank you for the advice :)
Speaking of south africa/johannesburg, can I message you? I have a few questions about it :)

I work in an OB/GYN and we always recommend to get Hep A. I can't speak for the typhoid vaccine cause I don't administer that but if you go to any primary or OB/GYN doctor, they can get it for you. There are three dosage for Hep A (Twinrix). I'd get it as soon as you can.

Awesome! I have an appointment at a travel clinic in my city in 2 days so I'll be getting it then. Are there any risks/side affects I should be worried about with the Hep A vaccine?

  3. Hello everyone!! I have a question and I'm not sure which topic it pertains to, so I figured I would ask my favorite group haha

I am going to attend my fiance's interview in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is recommended that I get the Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines to protect myself from contaminated food/water, etc. I called to make the appt. and the person was kind of confused as to why I didn't have a specific date/travel itinerary. I tried to explain the situation and told her we'll go with the end of March just to be safe. Do you guys think this is a tangible estimate of an interview date? We're going to have all of our paperwork and whatnot in order so when we schedule the interview, we're ready for it. We got our NOA2 Jan 26 BUT our case has yet to reach the NVC

ALSO: Has anyone else been advised/required to get vaccines to travel to their fiance's country or are planning to? I'm so lost lol if anyone could even point me in the right direction I would love you forever and ever

    Thank you!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. In the meantime, fill out the DS 160 and pay the visa fee (you don't need your NVC number for this part), collect all your paper work, have your fiance get his immunization records from his doctor, etc. This way once they transfer your case you are ready!

Thank you!! We will do that! Also, I thought the visa fee was paid in person at the time of interview?

Our NOA2 date is 1/23/2018. I just called because people with NOA2 dates close to mine were telling me their's were received. When I called they had actually received and already assigned us a case number. Our case went out shortly there after. It seems that the NVC is getting back to normal processing times if not faster. So I would definitely phone in if I were you. Option 1 then 5, good luck!

Thank you! I’ve called twice- once Friday and once Monday (yesterday). I plan on calling everyday, I hope it’s as quick as yours!!

You can work on healing those on this forum that have waited so long for uscis approval. :D

breeeeeathe. In.. Out... Inhale... now take a shot of tequila and hold your horses, our happy days are just around the corner :jest:

In all seriousness though, I'm really happy to have this forum. Without it, I'd be soooo lost and I think my fiance would be too.
It helps SO much knowing we're really not in this alone. I think "ugh I miss him so much, it feels like this process will last for an eternity." And then I remember I have all of you guys to turn to because you truly know the pain! We're all in this together!!

same here.. i'm a second year med student.. finishing up my last semester before starting rotations and i'm like... visa journey time!

I've been thinking about doing med school. I work as a CPA right now & seeing what the nurses do kind of looks intriguing. If I were go into medicine, I wouldn't know where to start. I just know I want to do some kind of alternative medicine- natural healing kind of stuff.

Same. As an English major, I should be reading my assigned literature and constructing essays. Instead, I am reading these forum posts and writing replies. Whoops. 😂😂😂

Hey, still doing some kind of english writing, right?! haha
I'm majoring in computer science.. I don't give myself enough time to read the textbook and then my fiance has to help with the coding projects. Him helping with my homework will make for a strong, successful marriage, right? :P

I’ve known people to get approved even though they live with parents. Living with parents while making your own income isn’t a bad thing, it means you’re saving money. And it’s the fiancés decision to move, knowing what they’re getting into. I don’t see why you would get denied just for living at home w/ parents

I think they meant if you’re living with your parents with no income. Meaning your parents are completely and fully supporting you. If you’re living under your parents roof but still working to Support yourself (and your future spouse), then there shouldn’t be a real issue.

if the scan here shows approved it means it will show approved on the uscis website?

or theres a chance only by mail?

Anything you see in the scans is what will be updated online/the case tracker apps. The apps are what they use to complete the scans. Usually, a lot of cases that were approved/sent RFE’s aren’t in the scans because USCIS didn’t update online :)

So we have to do all this while it's at the NVC? Not when it comes to the embassy?

I would, yes. You never know how long it will take to get this information from the bank, etc. It's better to start preparing as soon as you get your NOA2. When it comes to the embassy, it is time for you to apply for the actual K-1 Visa, all of the requirements listed above are needed to do this.
