Hello - not sure what kind of problems would arise out of using insurance under ACA (Obamacare). As a permanent resident, you are entitled to purchase insurance on the marketplace. There is currently some discussion around a proposed rule that is related to the evaluation of Public Charge (see here: https://www.ilrc.org/public-charge), but again, this rule will not apply to naturalization. You might want to consult an agent/broker - you should be able to find that on healthcare.gov.

Thank you for your reply.  I really appreciate it. God bless

Glad to see someone in IR5 category in this thread. Could you share your interview experience? Congratulations:jest:

Update: My status changed from "In Transit" to "Ready" today.

Interview  was at 10:30. We reached 9:40. They asked us to come back at 10:15. Then straight in to airport style security. Then they put  a sticker on our interview letter which had a number. Then asked us to go upstairs and turn left and wait for number to appear on screen. After 5 mins our number came on screen. The guy took our original birth certificate,  marriage certificate,  police certificate,  1 photo, passports and finger prints. Gave us our x-ray cds. Asked when we want to go to US. I said asap.Told us last date to enter usa will be 30 Nov. Told to be seated again and will be called for interview. In about 7-8 mins were called again. Very polite lady took our  finger Prints again. Asked son is petitioning u. I said yes. Then asked husband if he ever visited USA. Then asked me about 4-5 questions about my previous visits. That's it! Said will issue your visa congratulations. Said to wait 2 weeks for our passports. We were out by 10:50.

    Hi folks -

While I am waiting for my parents' case numbers from NVC, I have started looking at the DS-260 (the pdf that is posted as an example) and have a couple of questions that I am hoping to get some help with.

I filed and got approval for 2 separate I-130 petitions - 1 for my mom and 1 for my dad. So, I know we have to fill in 2 separate DS-260 forms, 1 each for mom and dad.

    Here are my questions:

1.) On the Family Information: Spouse page,

    a) Is your spouse immigrating to the U.S. with you?

My guess is that the answer is "NO" to this question as my mom and dad have separate petitions and will submit separate DS-260s? But would really appreciate some guidance/response from those who were in the same situation (filed for both parents).

    b) Is your spouse immigrating to the U.S. at a later date to join you?

This is definitely "NO" for our case.

2.) My dad has retired for more than 15 years now. So, we will be filling in RETIRED in Primary Occupation. And we will answer the question "Were you previously employed?" as YES (since he was). However, when answered YES, the next question asks for information on employers fro last 10 years, starting with most recent. Any suggestions on what we should enter here? Should we simply answer with "None-Retired"? Did anyone else have this situation?

Thanks very much for the help in advance.

For your first question you will answer yes spouse is immigrating with you. For second no he is not immigrating at a later stage.

We just did outs and that's what we wrote. Don't know about your other question.

  6. Hello there

We are IR5 category too. Our son has sponsored us and we are now waiting for an interview date. Its better to call and ask if nvc received your case. Once you know they have received your case  allow 2-3 weeks before calling again for a case number and invoice number.  Ours took 5.5 weeks to  get the case number after it  was received by nvc. Once you have both the numbers it's pretty fast from then  onwards.  You have to fill the ds261 choice of agent form and pay 2 different fees: one for aos and one iv fee. $120 and $325 respectively. Once both fees are cleared then you fill out the ds260 form.  Then comes the interview date and then the medical. Hope this helps and Good luck!

Yeah!!!! thats sounds great. What would be the next steps for scheduling the interview?  and CEAC status becomes Ready? Do we have to do anything at this point?

Now you wait for them to schedule your interview date.  From What I have read they schedule interviews end of the month/ beg of next month.  So hopefully we should get a date next week or the week after.
