He crossed the border illegally yes and flew out of nj to Costa Rica in 2009 and came back shortly after and crossed the border again

Your friend is really a hard knock lol... He should let his lawyer know the truth about the 2009 trip to Cost Rica and illegally crossing the border into the US again, a good immigration lawyer would know how to manage such situation. It is always very important to be very honest with your lawyer from day one.

I contacted the NVC today and I am not sure the NVC agent gave me the correct answer, but she told me not to worry about me adding the bank's name.  She said I paid the fee and it should go through and if not then to pay it again.  But she said she doesn't think its a big deal.  I will report back if it does go through and I hope it does

@DILAW It is not a big deal, if there is any issue with NVC processing the payment due to the name you used, they will void the payment and your AOS status will go back to "PAY NOW" from "IN PROCESS" and when you navigate to the Receipts tab you will see the transaction line item with payment status as "REJECTED". Then you may attempt to make the payment again.

Mind you that sometimes the payment status may change to "PAID" and switch back to "PAY NOW" if the payment is rejected due to some reasons.

    Keep us posted.

I also have other questions regarding checklist:

    1.  There has been the requirements for photographs in the past, now not anymore.

Is it advice able to still add photographs to the NVC package?

    2. You mentioned above, it is better to include a "certified copy".

What is a certified copy? I make a photocopy of the document and who should "certify" it? A notary?

    1. If you are referring to passport size photographs, I will say yes include 2 passport size photos (just in case). No harm in doing it even if it is not stated in your document cover sheet.

    2. The certified copy thing is for most cases is not a requirement, it is simply a choice. Meaning if you are able to obtain certified copies of each of your civil documents then do so and use them.

A certified copy is a copy (often a photocopy) of the original document, that has on it an endorsement or certificate or seal by the appropriate authority (usually the authority that issued the original) stating that it is a true copy of the original document.

NVC simply wants you to gather the documents that apply to you using the information below:
    - Send a photocopy of all required civil documents to NVC.
    - Bring the original documents (or certified copies) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

However, there are country-specific guidelines on how to obtain acceptable documents as it relates to your country. Use the Document Finder above tool from NVC website - https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html

It will help you with understanding some specifics requirement for civil documents for your country.

Additional see extract from the NVC website (Step 5: Collect Supporting Documents) - https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html

"All documents not written in English, or in the official language of the country in which you are applying for a visa, must be accompanied by certified translations. The translation must include a statement signed by the translator stating that:

    The translation is accurate, and
The translator is competent to translate."

    Hope this helps.

    Hi!

Yes, it showed as PAID today and i already completed and submitted DS-260, and i'm going to send the package tomorrow.

I i did called earlier today when it was still PAY NOW and they said same, bug in the system and to cal back on Friday..

I really hope your problem will be fixed ASAP !

Thanks For the update. I will continue to monitor the status  and if nothing changes by Friday I will initiate new payments.

All the best with the rest of your journey. Thanks..

  6. @dwheels76

You are doing and have been doing a wonderful job here, it is amazing thanks a lot.

I thought I should point out somethings, you may be aware of them already concerning the Case Complete to Interview Stats form. On the spreadsheet, I noticed a lot of typos of country names and visa categories which usually results to multiple entries when one applies a filter (e.g. applying a filter for Jamaica results to many entries due to different wrong spelling of Jamaica). If possible, would you be able to make some of the fields mandatory and some to be a drop-down select-list instead of members entering their info as they wish. An example is the Country of Interview and Visa Category fields for drop-down select-list and Visa Category field to be a required field. Thanks much.

Yes, similar, my IV fee changed from IN PROCESS (since oct 28th) to PAY NOW.. AOS still sais PAID, gonna call NVC today.

I called NVC twice at different times yesterday and got two different responses:

First call (AOS only changed to Rejected) - The NVC payment systems are having problems and I should give it until Thursday to see  if the payments are updated back to "PAID"

Second call (IV changed to Rejected) -  I should check with my bank because the transactions were rejected and it is not NVC fault

Yeah very confusing responses... no debit on my account yet though, I will wait until Thursday and if nothing happens I will make the payments again.

  8. Both my AOS and IV fees statuses changed to "PAY NOW" from "PAID". I had earlier made payments and received receipts of payment plus the statuses changed  from "IN PROCESS" to "PAID" after 2-3 days for both of AOS and IV and I started filing out the IV (DS-260) form which is currently grayed out (not accessible). When I go to the FEEs tab it gives me the option to PAY NOW for both fees... clicking on view payment receipts, I see that both payments were rejected. See screenshot below showing payment Status as REJECTED. What is going on??? ugghh...

    Has anyone experience this situation?

She lived in only one country besides our own country. She visited that other country in North America twice and she spent one year each time she visited  that country. I was hoping to get a case complete with a checklist to kind of buy time, because (she)  not being in that country anymore, it is difficult to get police certificate when finger prints are required; still trying to figure how to get Canadian police certificate for someone who is no longer there. That is a complicated equation...

Trust me I understand pretty well what you are going through because I’m currently going through same thing - I lived in 3 different countries myself and I am struggling to get police certificates from two of the countries I lived because they require fingerprints to conduct search in their police records, it means I may have to travel to those countries I’m order to obtain police certificates (hopefully I don’t have to). Right now, they are my show stopper from completing my civil document package for submission to NVC. I wish you all the best.

Sorry for any confusion, I am the petitioner for a parent. She lived abroad for a year. I am a lurker here, not a regular poster, I don't know how to update timeline... So I have been calling every day and getting the standard 11 weeks response, until today. The line was going through fast, less than 5 minutes waiting time... So the first representative said it is in review, 10 minutes or so later the other one said I it was reviewed yesterday and got a checklist, 5 minutes later another one said the same . I was driving home and when I got home, the email was there

Thanks for the clarification and sorry to see you got a checklist.

Did you provide the police certificate for all the countries your parent lived for over 6 months since she turned 16 years? Pardon my being inquisitive, I am trying to understand why you got a checklist and also to help other members (including me) here understand what happened and how to avoid it. Thank you.

I called NVC today and I was told that my case was reviewed yesterday and they need a police certificate from another country...

I have already received that email by the way

    Scan Date September 11...

I am sorry for the cheklist. Hope you provide it to them as soon as possible.

If I may ask, did you live in this other country for over 6 months per why they are asking for the police certificate?

I need help on choosing the correct I-864 for my situation. I have been a student living at home with both my mom and dad. I'm currently doing a paid externship but the income does not meet the income requirements for me to file alone. My parents are willing to help in any way they can, but I don't want to make them jump through all the hoops I have to for this visa... they're older and not computer savvy haha...

So my question is... should I file the I-864 and, let's say, have my mom file an I-864A to boost my income. Or just file 2 separate I-864's between me an my mom?  Also my parents joint file their taxes yearly. So the other route I think is I file I-864, my mom also files I-864, and my dad would file I-864A.... but that seems like a lot of paperwork on their end... I'm just trying to make it easy but more so want to do things correctly.

Earlier today, in attempt to respond to your posting, I mistakenly posted below to a the wrong posting (too much in my head I guess :) ).

Check out this posting by @pushbrk I think it will help you. You may ask further questions in the thread (Financial support forms) if if you need additional clarification and members there will respond to it.

When sending in the copies of the AOS and IV papers, I see where the Document Cover Sheet needs to be accompanied with the documents requested. How many of you all also included a personal cover letter for each the AOS and IV documents?

I don't want to "overkill" the whole package considering there is the cover sheet and then a cover letter???

    Your opinions please!

Hey check out this posting below from an experience VJ member @pushbrk on his reply to someone with a question similar to yours. It may help clarify your situation or you could contact him privately to assist you directly.

I noticed you updated your timeline, however your NOA2 is not known yet since you haven't received the letter from mail. That is where you will find the actual Notice of Action date which is your NOA2 (same way you are suppose to get your NOA1). Kindly use the proper date to update your timeline when you receive the notice letter. Thanks and welcome to NVC :)

never write always call, you can call them for free using the Google app for phone calls from anywhere in the world. If you write you'll get a standard response, try calling them this Friday for a casenumber either early in the morning when the office opens are around 7 or 8 pm, their local time.

Thanks Yeonin for the prompt response. The google app for phone calls, is it the same as the google voice by google that gives you a free phone number for calling and texting? Or is it a different app you are referring to? Who is the app developer? Thank you again.

  17. I wrote NVC last week Oct 13 asking for case number and also to let them have my email on record for correspondences and I got the following feedback yesterday:

"We recently received your visa petition. We will send NVC processing instructions within 4 to 5 weeks. Please resubmit your inquiry if you have not received any information after 5 weeks."

    My Dates are:
    My NOA2 -  Oct 5, 2017
USCIS case status changed to "Case was sent to the department of state" - Oct 12, 2017

Does it really take that long to get the processing instructions from NVC after case has been sent to them from USCIS? Thanks for your feedback.
