  1. Does anyone know if the form DS-230 part one can be completed and signed ahead of time or will we have to wait for the original to be generated by NVC?

I will be leaving hubby again on Tuesday and we would like to get as much done as possible to save us time.

Why don't you complete the form and leave it with her and when the packet comes in mail have her copy the contents that you filled out and submit it?

Thanks for your suggestion. We had considered doing that, but it takes around one month to send and receive mail to and from the US. The DHL prices are ridiculously high. Also I can't even guarantee that my husband will receive his copy or not from NVC. The mail service here is not very dependable. I was just wondering if the form sent from NVC will have the generated barcode? Any clue?

    Couple of questions..

Who is the petitioner the husband or wife?

When you sent the Choice of Agent, who was assigned as the choice of agent? the petitioner or the beneficiary?

If the choice of agent is the petitioner (the person in the USA) then the beneficary print and sign the DS230 ahead of time and send it back to the petitioner. Then when the offical version comes you can replace it with the one already signed and send it back with the bar code cover sheet.

  2. Hello VJ patient ones.

If you're interested in India information, I just found something out from my wife (who is far far away from me in India). We tried to speed up the process a bit by getting the police certificate done ahead of time. Chennai will be sending her the interview letter shortly, but haven't yet. Just so you know - they need to see the letter from the consulate asking for the interview in order to issue a police certificate.

Hopefully this will save you from wasting the time running around trying to get the police cert. Good luck!

I want to "second" that. My wife also in India (and far away from me :crying: ) has her interview scheduled for May 24th. We ended up waiting for the interview letter before she went to get the cleareance certificates. When she did go, they asked her for the interview letter. This was the case for both the local police cleareance and the passport cleareance as well.

  3. We were approved for our K3 and the I-130 April 5th  . It's now the 19th and NVC doesn't have our file. That's 2 wks! Should it not have been received by now???

Don't get to frustrated. It is somewhat typical. NVC only updates their records on a weekly basis (every Tuesday I believe)

so wait till next tueday, before calling and speaking to an agent at the NVC

    Good luck

  4. Does anyone know the status of the proposed fee increase for the N-400? I haven't heard about it for awhile. We are planning on sending it out next month. If it does pass, will the increase be immediate? Or should we be safe for another month or so?

    Thanks

Not heard much on it.. but send of the fee/application ASAP once you are eligable. You may get lucky and not pay the extra fee.

    Good luck

  5. Receiving an NOA2 from one of the Service centers is just the first step in the process. There is a second set of processes you need to go through where you need to submit an Affidivit of Support, DS230, collecting police cleareance certificates from the local police station and the passport office etc.. which needs to be submited to either the consulate or the NVC depending which visa you are applying for... only after your file is sent to the consulate will your interview be scheduled. I went the CR1 route, check out my time line from when I got the NOA2.

    Thanks and goodluck!

Wow! So from a NOA2 received on Dec 21st 2006, the interview in Mumbai was set for May 2nd 2007! That's about 4 whole months!!! Is that normal?
Yes mumbai does take some time to schdule interviews, look at my timeline

  6. Hi everyone well today Ksusha and I finshed up the last bit of info she needs for tomorrow for her interview at the embassy in Almaty although I am abit anxious on the outcome, so I hope everything goes well for her, but I will know tonight  and also thanks to everyone who has helped her and I out and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Good luck.. wish you guys all the best

  7. Another update:

My wife received her local police cleareance certificate, and went to Ahemdabhad Gujarat, yesterday to get her Passport cleareance. They said it'll take 4 days for her to receive it.

She has also got her Medical interview scheduled for May 22nd in Mumbai.

I sent her all the documents needed for the interview yesterday in a 3 ring office binder separated by TABS and a "table of content" cover page for easy reference.

She has to go back to Ahemdabhad on the 14th of May to do the VFS process.

All in all, it seems as though everything is falling into place.

  9. I hope someone can help me with this issue. I just filed I-129F for K3 Visa for my wife in India. I had put down Mumbai, India as the Embassy or Consulate where my wife will apply for visa. Has anyone ever dealt w/ Mumbai Embassy? Is that correct embassy for K3 Visa in India? Thank you for your help in advance.

    Jay

    Jay,

I'm going through the Mumbai consulate. The question of whether this is the correct embassy or not depends on where in India your wife currently resides.

At a high level, all "Northern" parts of India are services by Delhi consulate. Western states are serviced by Mumbai. Southern states are serviced by Chennai and Eastern states are serviced by Kolkota.

My wife is from the State of Gujarat, for which Mumbai is the consulate.

Send me a personal message if you have additional questions.

    Thanks and goodluck

  10. When it comes to tongues, melting chocolate is better than a passionate kiss, scientists have found.

Couples in their 20s had their heart rates and brains monitored whilst they first melted chocolate in their mouths and then kissed.

Chocolate caused a more intense and longer lasting "buzz" than kissing, and doubled volunteers' heart rates.

The research was carried out by Dr David Lewis, formerly of the University of Sussex, and now of the Mind Lab.

Dr Lewis said: "There is no doubt that chocolate beats kissing hands down when it comes to providing a long-lasting body and brain buzz.

"A buzz that, in many cases, lasted four times as long as the most passionate kiss."

He said substances in chocolate were already known to have a psychoactive effect, but that allowing it to melt on your tongue could be the secret to maximising the buzz.

The volunteers, all aged in their 20s, had electrodes attached to their scalps and wore heart monitors during the two tests.

The researchers compared their resting heart rates with those during the chocolate and kissing tests.

    Longer lasting effects

Although kissing set the heart pounding, the effect did not last as long as that seen with the chocolate, which increased heart rates from a resting rate of about 60 beats per minute to 140.

The study also found that as the chocolate started melting, all regions of the brain received a boost far more intense and longer lasting than the excitement seen with kissing.

Although women are generally thought to be bigger fans of chocolate than men, the research found the same reactions to chocolate in both sexes.

Dr Lewis said: "These results really surprised and intrigued us.

"While we fully expected chocolate- especially dark chocolate - to increase heart rates due to the fact it contains some highly stimulating substances, both the length of this increase together with the powerful effects it had on the mind were something none of us had anticipated."

Psychologist Sue Wright said: "Chocolate contains phenylethylamine which can raise levels of endorphins, the pleasure-giving substances, in the brain.

"It also contains caffeine which has a stimulatory effect on the brain.

"This would explain why chocolate can give people a buzz, and why people can become addicted to it."

The research used a new 60% cocoa dark chocolate from Cadbury, and a spokeswoman for the chocolate makers said: "You'd think people would be shy about kissing in a laboratory, but that wasn't the case at all. We're not talking about a quick peck here."

The Mind Lab is funded by members of the food industry, although no firm can be linked to any individual study.

  11. We're pursuing the K3 visa through the Mumbai consulate. I've heard from Yodrak that normally we would need to fill DS230 Part 1, and additionally Part 2 for certain embassies.

So does this change of submitting the forms to embassy Vs. NVC affect K3? Our K3 visa just got approved at the CSC. Do I need to be doing something related to these forms?

    Thanks,

    /UM

UM no "new rules" have come into effect for Mumbai. Just follow the instructions from either the NVC or Mumbai consulate. There are a couple of indian folks going through K3 in Mumbai on this website. Ask them if you have any questions. I'm going through a CR1 in Mumbai so I'm not exactly sure what the differences are in terms of what docs have to be prepared, when, and who they need to be sent to.

  12. guys, i just called NVC and they told me that the supporting documents for the DS230 now have to be sent to NVC and not taken to the interview in bogota. when did this change? did i miss something? i thought the only thing that had to be sent with the DS230 was a copy of my wifes passport.

also, now that i have to ask my wife to get a police report, i asked NVC if she needed one from each city she has lived in, which would be barranquilla and bogota, but the NVC rep told me that she only needed multiple police reports if she has lived in more than one country. if this is so, do the police in colombia give one report that covers the entire country or does she have to goto bogota to get one from there? i'm a liitle confused after thinking i was on top of everything. please clearify, any help is appreciated

    gracias

    JK

You may want to check out this thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=47531

I know of a couple of folks that just completed the CR1 process (Florida_Photo and Looking for a Wife) you may want to reach out to them directly to get thier thougts on this.

    Good luck.

  13. My Allstate agent said it is not true and that they are not forced to stick with that. www.ncrb.org doesn't seem to be a legislative for the state of NC, rather a private association. We are paying $580 for 6 months, both of us have 7 years of driving experience, me 6 of those years in Europe. The rate is only high cause hubs once got a ticket in Nevada. :)

If it was a law, then Allstate would have to stick with it!!!! I wanna see the website of the state of North Carolina where it says that the governor actually signed such a law.

When did your insurance coverage take effect? As the OP stated if it was before 10/1/06 your international driving experience would be counted, if after that date, it would not and hence the higher premiums.

If it was after 10/1/06.. and you are paying the lower premiums, can you tell me which insurance company you are with in NC? I've checked into this as my wife will be here in about 2 months.. and my agent told me to expect a higher premium (state farm) I also called Allstate and they said the same thing.

If you have a different insurance agent/company, please let me know who you are with, so I can get my policy changed over to them!

    Thanks

  14. What does this statement from USCIS actually mean ?

"...The immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, which includes parents, spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21, do not have to wait for an immigrant visa number to become available once the visa petition filed for them is approved by USCIS. An immigrant visa number will become immediately available."

Once the petition is approved is a visa immediately granted to spouses of US citizens?

How does this affect the wait time from filing of and I-130 to visa-in-hand?

    thanks all for the help

    Greeneclipse,

What that paragraph is refering to, is the number of visa that are available in a specific country by a number of different catogeries.

A person applying for a spousal visa is exempt from the visa limits set by the US state department, and therefore, once the I-130 has been approved, you would be able for a spousal visa "immediately" i.e the NVC process.

If for example a U.S. citizen is applying for a sibling, once the I-130 is approved, it could be as long as 10+ years before a "visa number" is available (due to the limitations set by the State Department) i.e. the NVC process.

  15.:dance::dance: VISA APPROVED! WE GOT IT!!! WHOOHOOO!!!!:dance::dance:

Thanks so much for all your good wishes & prayers!!! :D

My guy just called now (12:35 AM my time, 1:05 PM India time), he just got out of the Consolute. He said I gotta work tomorrow, I should go to sleep and he has to eat due to having a killer headache from all the waiting. He'll give the details tomorrow he says.

Anyhoots YEA! And OMG I have to rearrange my studio apartment to fit him too! :o:P:luv:

    Will write details afterwards!

    Thanks again all!

    CONGRATULATIONS! :dance::dance:

How long before he gets here?

  16. have the rules changed? as the choice agent, does my wife now have to send me the supporting documents instead of taking them to the interview? open the PDF to read the instructions and tell me if i'm reading this right.

    thanks

    jk

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

    Jediknight,

I don't think the rules have changed at all.

With all cases that fall under the CR/IR1 bucket, the DS230 part 1 (and in some cases depending on the country/embassy DS230 part 2 and supporting documents) are always sent to the NVC.

Specific to our case, (Mumbai, India), we had to submit the DS230 part 1 only to the NVC. The NVC will then forward that onto the embassy. My wife will need to collect the supporting documents (police cleareance certs etc) fill out part 2 and take that to the embassy for the interview.

As I stated earlier, different processes are in place for different countries. You may want to get clarification from others on VJ that are going through the same embassy as you.

The NVC should also provide instruction on what needs to be submited, when and where, when you or your SO receive the DS230 packet.

    Good luck

  17. Two children were dragged from a car moments before it plunged more than 220ft (67m) down a cliff in Cornwall.

It is believed one of the boys may have let the handbrake off the 4x4 vehicle at Polpeor Cove, on the Lizard.

The family, from Gloucestershire, were on holiday when the accident happened at about 1417 BST on Thursday.

The mother freed the children, thought to be about five-years-old, before the car went over the cliff. The family is shocked, but unhurt.

    Recovered possessions

Falmouth Coastguard said all the family's belongings were in the vehicle when it hurtled over the cliff edge.

A spokesman said most of its contents had been recovered - some by boat and some by the coastguard cliff rescue team.

"The car is all there, but they won't be driving home in it," he said.

"We understand the mother managed to pull the children out just before it rolled over the edge."

  18. About 200 youngsters caused damage put at £20,000 to a family home after a party organised on a website.

Police said a teenage girl used the social networking site MySpace to advertise the bash while her parents were away from home on Easter Monday.

A spokesman said some people travelled hundreds of miles to the house in Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham.

It is alleged guests urinated on a wedding dress, stole jewellery and swung from light fittings.

Party-goers are also said to have stubbed out cigarettes on the carpet, vomited throughout the house and barricaded the back door to prevent neighbours from intervening.

    'Out of control'

The sixth-former's parents returned on Tuesday morning to find the trail of destruction at their £230,000 house in Chipchase Court in Woodstone.

They have now moved out of the house to have it professionally cleaned.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "The girl's parents were away, she invited people around and it spiralled out of her control.

"It was a private house party and we've been told it was advertised on MySpace.

"We had a large number of complaints from neighbours and at various points we had to intervene."

He said no arrests were made on the night, but police were attempting to trace all the party-goers as part of an investigation into allegations of criminal damage.

  19. Hi, like everyone in here, I am looking for a way to speed up this process.

I am in the states and my wife in Thailand. We are to the point where I have paid the 846 fees (await the package) and the NVC has received her petition designating me as our agent.

I have already filled out the 846 and await the NVC's actual documents, before submitting, with any additional requests.

Looking at the flowchart, I see my wife needs to fill out the DS-230 (signing page 1 but not page 2).

Here's where I am trying to save some time:

Could I just have her download the forms, fill them out and send to me? This way they will be ready when the NVC sends me, the agent, the actual forms. I would then place them in the NVC's included envelope and send back to them. Is this cool or will this anger someone?

I understand there is a question asking if "anyone helped fill out the forms?" Would it be wrong to just say yes and admit that we are trying to expedite the process??

Anyone know where the best (legal and current) copy of this form can be downloaded?

I thank you (very much) in advance. Both for your time and this great forum.

    That's exactly what I did.

Don't worry about answering "Yes" to the question about "anyone helped fill out the forms?" There is no issue is downloading the form having your wife fill it out and having her send it to you. Just make sure she does not DATE the form.. you should date it when you actually send the form in.
